Minecraft is known for giving freedom to its players. The game offers many activities, e.g. crafting, building, surviving, etc. Players build unique things with many kinds of blocks, and they use some tools for hunting and others for exploration. However, there are a lot of items that serve a different purpose depending on how they are used. Signs in Minecraft are very versatile, as they can provide instructions and warnings. Some new players might not be familiar with the process of making signs.

In that case, we are going to walk all the players through the process of making signs in Minecraft.

How To Make Signs

Signs main purpose is to provide information, whether it’s direction, instruction, or warning. The process of producing signs is very simple; all players need is two things:

  • x6 wooden planks
  • x1 stick

Wooden Planks

To create wooden planks, players need to acquire any type of wood by cutting a tree either with an axe or with bare hands. Put the log in the center of the crafting table to create 4 wooden planks. Subsequently, there are 11 types of wood in Minecraft, and each wood gives a different color plank.

Sticks

Sticks are produced with the help of wooden planks. Moreover, this item is a crafting material, meaning it cannot be utilized on its own. To craft sticks, simply put two planks on top of each other vertically. Two wooden planks produce 4 sticks.

After gathering all the required material, just place them in the following order to obtain signs:

  • Fill the first and second rows with wooden planks, i.e., 3 planks on the first row and 3 planks on the second row.
  • Put a stick in the second cell of the third row. Remember that if the mentioned pattern is not followed, the item won’t be crafted.
  • 6 wooden planks and 1 stick produce 3 signs.

In Minecraft, there are 11 type of woods, therefore there are 11 type of signs too:

  • Oak Sign
  • Spruce sign
  • Birch sign
  • Jungle sign
  • Acacia sign
  • Dark oak sign
  • Mangrove sign
  • Cherry sign

  • Bamboo sign

  • Warped sign

How To Use Signs

Signs are used to write down anything a player wants. Here are some main uses of signs:

  • Players can label storage containers so that they don’t forget which box has what kind of items.
  • One unique way signs can be used is to control the flow of lava and water, as they cannot destroy signs.
  • Put signs to point out an area of interest or danger.
  • Players can use signs to display information to other players in the server.
