The Gray Fox is a mysterious figure you constantly hear of during your time with the guild. However, since you start on the lower rungs, you don’t get to meet him. You’re finally graced with his presence during Turn A Blind Eye, but something seems off. The man is more than meets the eye and is clearly hiding something. Oblivion Remastered’s Boots of Springheel Jak quest dives into the supposed past of this mysterious enigma.

Boots of Springheel Jak is one of the best quests in the game in terms of lore. In terms of gameplay, it is more or less what you’d expect from a Thieves Guild quest. In this guide, we shall walk you through the quest in case you’ve run into any roadblock.

You begin the Boots of Springheel Jak quest by contributing 800 Gold to the Thieves Guild. Once you’ve done so, Amusei will approach you with a message from Gray Fox. The leader wishes to meet at Ganredhel’s house in Cheydinhal.

Head to the designated spot and talk to Gray Fox, and he will reveal that he needs the boots of Springheel Jak, a famous thief that lived 300 years ago. The only lead on the thief and his grave is the Earl of Imbel, Springheel Jak’s descendant.

Head to the Imperial City Talos Plaza District and bribe any beggar for information on the Earl’s house. The house is along the inner wall of the plaza. Break into the Earl’s house and make your way all the way up to the trap door leading to Jakben’s Private Quarters in the attic. Search his desk to find a book revealing his family lineage.

Next, wait for the sun to set and Jakben to emerge. Talk to him about Springheel Jak’s tomb, and he will tell you it’s in a crypt under the house, handing you its key. Head back into the house and head downstairs into the Catacombs. Follow the linear path past the vampire matriarch and the wraith to find Springheel Jak’s diary. The boots were not in the tomb, and the diary reveals that Jakben is Springheel Jak himself. Jakben will attack you on your way out, so defeat the Earl and loot his boots. Return to Gray Fox and hand over the boots to complete the quest.
