Welcome to the Starfield Background Guide, where we’ll explain everything we know about available character Backgrounds in the new upcoming Bethesda game Starfield.
What kind of character backgrounds will Starfield have?
Character backgrounds (which could also be referred to as classes) are what players will choose in order to determine their character’s origin story. Each unique background will provide characters will certain buffs and benefits. See our Backgrounds Guide below for further details!
The first new intellectual property developed by Bethesda Game Studios in 25 years, Starfield is a hotly anticipated AAA single player, action role playing game which takes place across the vastness of space. Originally scheduled for release in late 2022, Starfield’s new release date is now set for September 6, 2023!
Starfield Backgrounds Guide
One of the biggest Bethesda strengths is storytelling. You can choose your character’s origin story from 20 available in total. Game Director Todd Howard has described the background as the “starting class” This choice will determine your three starting skills and how the game environment and NPC characters will react and interact with your character. As we know from previous Bethesda titles, what skills and which path you choose next is completely up to you.
During the gameplay revel we could see a protagonist with a Diplomat background talking with an NPC character who comments:
“….says here you spent some time as a diplomat. Having a way with words might prove useful.”
Not every NPC’s reaction to your character’s origin may be positive. Some may accuse you of murder, if they learn you are a Gangster or they simply don’t like your Chef’s cuisine.
