The upcoming Bethesda game Starfield will offer freedom and impressive character customization options, significantly improved in comparison to their previous titles. Some of these features haven’t appeared before in any Bethesda games and will add new depth to character creation and replayability. Recently, Bethesda gave us a 15-minute gameplay reveal of Starfield, their first new IP in 25 years. This reveal provided some quick glimpses of the kind of depth and variety of options that the Starfield Character Creation will give players. How will the choices you make impact the story of the game and the way you play it? Click here for the full post!
Starfield Character Creation Excerpt
Starfield’s character creation system offers multiple options to create diverse and unique characters: biometric ID, body, face, background and traits. We don’t know yet every single detail, hair option or available eye color, but enough to understand and start theory crafting about the new Bethesda game. Let’s take a closer look at what we know and what we have seen already.
The Biometric ID is the pre-set menu. You can choose one of the base models and customize it further in the next character creator tab. You can also keep one of the loadouts. Each model has a personal record number, so far, it looks like we can select at least one of 14 pre-sets. Biometrics can be changed later in the game by visiting the genetics facility. We don’t know whether these facilities are going to be available on your own ship or across all civilized Starfield planets.
Various alien races, droids and robots were shown in a glimpse of gameplay during Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022, but as far as we know, character customisation will be focused on humans only. Just looking at the game footage above, we can tell how creative players can be in creating their perfect protagonist. This also means we can expect variety in NPC’s appearance, offering a better game experience.
One of the biggest Bethesda strengths is storytelling, and next, we have the character background. Additionally, you can choose your character’s origin story from 20 available in total. In an interview with IGN, Todd Haward explained the background is the “starting class”. This setting will determine your three starting skills and how the game environment and NPC characters will react and interact with your character. As we know from previous Bethesda titles, what skills and which path you decide next is completely up to you and with no limitations.
“It’s an Epic-Roleplaying game where you get to be who you want and go where you want.” – Todd Howard, Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022
