Throne and Liberty Traits Guide

The global launch of Throne and Liberty has finally brought the world of Solisium to a wider audience and hundreds of thousands of new players. Although some may have participated in the earlier betas, others are stepping into the game for the first time. Throne and Liberty is a very dense game, with a lot of story, but also a lot of items, gear, materials, and currencies. Navigating all of the game’s mechanics and systems can be daunting to someone brand new.

Moreover, one of those systems in Throne and Liberty is gear Traits. You may notice them on the tooltips of weapons, armor, and accessories as you play. They don’t matter much while you are leveling. However, as you start to grind for and collect end-game gear they become crucial. This guide will break down the Throne and Liberty Traits system in detail, explaining what they are, how you can apply new ones, convert old ones, and more!

How to apply New Trait Lines

How to apply New Trait Lines in Throne and Liberty

All gear in Throne and Liberty comes with one random trait automatically applied to it. However, you can see in the gear tooltips that there are usually two more trait slots that can be unlocked. There are three different ways to apply new Traits in Throne and Liberty:

  1. Use an exact copy of the gear piece if you wish to apply a new Trait. This means that the name and rarity of both gear pieces must match exactly. The new trait you wish to add should be the only major difference between them.
  2. Use an Extracted Trait you either extracted or bought from the Auction House. The gear piece the extracted trait is from must also exactly match the gear you want to use it on.
  3. Use Trait Unlockstones

How to Apply New Traits from Gear

To start the process, open up the Main Menu and select Equipment Enchanting. Click on the Trait tab at the top, and then carefully select the gear piece you want to apply the new trait to. This will open a new screen where the trait slots will be shown on the left. Click to select the trait slot you wish to unlock, and any matching gear you can use will then appear on the right-hand side of the screen.

Next, click on the new gear piece with the trait you want to transfer over. This process will destroy that piece of gear, so choose the right one. Once you’re ready, click the ‘Unlock Trait’ button at the bottom center of the screen. It will cost you some Sollant, but the new trait will be applied to the previously empty slot.

Upgrading Gear Trait Lines

Upgrading Gear Trait Lines in Throne and Liberty

To upgrade a trait on your piece of gear, you need to find the exact same Trait, on the same type of gear, ideally of the same Rarity. For example, the base level of the Critical Hit Chance trait is 20. To upgrade it once, you must find another weapon with Critical Hit Chance 20. Then, open up Equipment Enchanting, choose the Trait tab, and select the piece of gear you wish to upgrade.

Next, in this new window, select the trait you wish to upgrade to the left-hand side. On the right, you will see any pieces of gear with duplicate traits you can sacrifice for the upgrade. When ready, click ‘Enchant’ at the bottom and pay a Sollant fee to upgrade your trait. In our previous example, Critical Hit Chance 20 will upgrade to Critical Hit Chance 40.

Additionally, if you have already leveled the trait on a piece of gear once, then if you want a 100% chance when leveling it a third time you will need to find (or create) another piece of gear that has the same second level of upgrading. Therefore, if you wish to upgrade Critical Hit Chance again, you will ideally use another piece of gear that has Critical Hit Chance 40.

However, if that is proving difficult with high-level gear, Throne and Liberty provides another option through the Blessings mechanic.

Upgrading Traits with Blessings

Upgrading Traits with Blessings in Throne and Liberty

When upgrading traits, gear rarity is crucial. If you try to upgrade a trait on a Blue/Rare piece of gear by using Green/Uncommon gear, then you will only have a base 10% chance of success.

This is where you can use Blessings to increase your chances. Say you have Blue/Rare daggers with a Critical Hit Chance but only green swords, which also have a Critical Hit Chance. Attempt to use them to upgrade the trait, and you will most likely fail. However, you will receive 8 Blessing Points for each weapon that is consumed in the process. These Blessing Points can be used or saved for later to increase your percentage chance of another upgrade attempt.

Essentially, Blessings are Throne and Liberty’s ‘pity’ mechanic when it comes to upgrading traits. Depending on the gear type and rarity, it might ultimately be easier to sacrifice many gear pieces of a lower rarity than to try to find something that matches 1:1.

Extracting Trait Lines in Throne and Liberty

Extracting Trait Lines in Throne and Liberty

Next in our Trait Guide is a method in Throne and Liberty of extracting traits from pieces of gear you don’t wish to use. To do this you will need Trait Extraction Stones, which can be purchased from the Contract Coin Merchant.

However, be aware that doing so will destroy the original item. Additionally, and Extracted Trait can only be used on (applied to) the exact same named piece of gear that it was originally extracted from. Therefore, don’t expect to take the Buff Duration trait from a ring, and then apply it to a cloak. Nor will it work if you extract Mana Regen from one pair of Legs and then try to apply it to a different pair.

To use a Trait Extraction Stone, double-click on the item in your inventory. This will take you directly to the Traits tab in the Enchanting Equipment screen. There, you choose the gear you want to apply the extraction to.

Finally, if the trait isn’t something you need but still something valuable, you can sell Extracted Traits for Lucent in the Auction House.

How to Replace Trait Lines in Throne and Liberty

If the originally generated trait on your piece of gear is something you don’t like, or if you ever want to change any of the traits, they can always be replaced. To do this you will need Trait Conversion Stones, which can be purchased from Guild Merchants. There is a weekly purchase limit of 100, and they cost 30 Guild Coins each.

You can use Conversion Stones in two different ways: to change to a specific trait or to change to a random trait. If you want to change to a specific trait, you will again need an exact copy of the gear piece that has the trait you want. Then, click on ‘Trait Conversion’ on the gear piece you want to change in the Traits tab. You’ll then see the copy gear piece on the right. Select it, then click trait conversion at the bottom.

Rolling for a new random trait work much the same, you just won’t have a copy gear piece to select. You will be able to see on the right the percentage chances of different traits. Typically, a random roll on a new trait will cost more Trait Conversion stones, which you can see below.

Trait Resonance

In Throne and Liberty Trait, Resonance is a slot that can only be unlocked on Epic gear. It has all three Traits unlocked, and each leveled to the maximum tier of 4. However, this mechanic is not yet available in the global release of the game in American, European, and Southeast Asia regions. However, since it is in place on the more advanced South Korean version of the game, it will likely be included in a future update.

To place a new trait in the Resonance trait slot, you will need Trait Resonance Stones. These can be crafted at the Accessories Merchant in Stonegard. They are a purple-level item and can be found by clicking on the ‘bag’ icon on the left.

Once you have Trait Resonance Stones, you will be able to apply a new trait to our Resonance Trait slot. It remains to be see how many you need, or if the process is entirely RNG-based. If you are allowed to choose a specific trait for your Resonance Trait slot, it is likely to cost you far more Trait Resonance Stones than randomly rolling.
