Throne and Liberty vs Lost Ark: Which Fantasy MMO Is Better?

Throne and Liberty and Lost Ark have very different approaches when it comes to exploration and combat.

Throne and Liberty is the hot new MMORPG that has engrossed players worldwide. With tons of new content yet to come, Throne and Liberty is primed to hold your attention for hundreds of hours over the next few months. The game shares some similarities with Lost Ark, an MMORPG released in 2019 that features tons of dungeons to raid, quests to complete, and NPCs to talk to. They have similar gameplay elements and fantasy themes. But, which one is better?

We find Throne and Liberty to be the better game, and here’s why:

Why We Think Throne and Liberty Is Better

1) A Seamless Open World

While both Throne and Liberty and Lost Ark are MMORPGs, their take on exploration could not be any more different. Throne and Liberty features a vast open world for you to explore at your own leisure. This world is filled with dynamic events and activities that are brought to life by the presence of other players. Lost Ark, however, opts for instanced worlds and dungeons. This means that when you enter any area, the game creates a private copy of that area for you. The world feels sectioned off and quite dead.

2) Throne and Liberty Is Cross-Platform

Another thing Throne and Liberty has going for it is cross-platform play. The game allows you to party up with players on all platforms. You can play with and against players on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC, regardless of the platform you are on. This further adds to the social aspect of the game, allowing you to connect with a wider range of players. Feel free to socialize, make friends, and form Guilds. Lost Ark, on the other hand, is exclusive to PC and hence offers no cross-platform play.

3) More Player Freedom

Throne and Liberty has several classes to choose from and even more choices when it comes to weapons. You can cycle through several permutations of class and weapon combos to create your own unique build. The game also lets you change these on the fly. Wish to use a greatsword for a fight? You can! Wish to switch to Longbow and chip away from a distance? You can! The game is very flexible in how it allows you to approach scenarios.

Lost Ark, on the other hand, is rigid. Once you’ve selected your class at the start, you are pretty much locked into a certain playstyle and approach. Should you wish to alter your class, you are forced to create an entirely new character from scratch. This often discourages players from experimenting.
