Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Nobutsuna Sensei Main Quest Walkthrough

Take Yazuke on a personal journey of self-discovery in the Nobutsuna Sensei main quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

After the cutscene ends, you regain control of Yasuke and are tasked with following Nobutsuna Sensei. He will then guide you to the training grounds where the next cutscene triggers. Here the Nobutsuna Sensei main quest begins.

Through the cutscene, Marume Nagayoshi gives a brief explanation of what the training would consist of. Nobutsuna sensei would, as per Lord Nobunaga, train you in his shinkage-ryu style. Within a month, Yasuke is expected to become a fine warrior. You get to choose between two replies, which will not affect the outcome of this mission.

Duel with Nagayoshi

Immediately after the cutscene, you will face Nagayoshi in a duel. He will have slow and predictable moves. His primary combo involves an upward sword strike from the top and a horizontal slice. If you get too close to Nagayoshi, he will create a distance with different kicks. His upcoming hits will be highlighted by a red blip on the specific limb. Time your parries and dodges to create chances of strikes.

Nagayoshi will have 10 bars of health. Every three strikes deplete one health bar. If you maintain a higher combo, you will be able to inflict more damage per strike till it lasts. Nagayoshi, on the other hand, hoards powerful strikes. Each strike of his will drain your life down to half.

Regardless of who defeats whom, the fight ends with a cutscene showing Nagayoshi getting the upper hand on us. He then tells us to go find the room inside a house.

Reach Your Room | Defeat Rival School Student

The room is 25 meters away from where the cutscene ends. Proceed forward down the flight of stairs and enter the wooden gate. Once you enter, the next cutscene triggers. The cutscene shows three Sanada-Ryu students harassing a servant about the food not being adequate.

After directly disrespecting the leader of the three students, he challenges you to a duel. He is fairly easy to defeat with just three bars of health. After defeating him, the cutscene shows the other two students jumping you and dropping you down to the floor. They then leave, after which Nagayoshi returns and leads you to the room.

The next morning, Lady Oichi approaches you. She commends you for saving the older woman and going against the students. She speaks to understand more about you. When asked about your family and home, you are prompted with three choices.

Choosing the option ‘Some company might be nice’ would begin a romance phase with Lady Oichi. Before you depart, you are handed a gift by Lady Oichi. The cutscene continues, showing us days of training and practice.

Chase the Suspicious Man | Talk to Nobutsuna Sensei

At the end of the cutscene, you notice a suspicious person peeking into your room. This triggers a chase sequence. Run outside the room and straight up the stairs to your right. Continue to run up the slope through the market inside the Azuchi castle. You reach a dead end where you can finally confront the man. Reaching him will trigger the next cutscene.

The man is revealed to be a Jesuit Priest. He was curious to see you in a place like this. The person asks for forgiveness before another cutscene triggers. We are back inside our room before being woken up by a knock on our door. Nobutsuna sensei had sent for us. Run towards the blip on the map.

Once you reach it, a cutscene triggers. Lady Nene patiently waits for us in the absence of Nobutsuna sensei. Throughout the cutscene, you are prompted with three different occasions of choice answers. None of these will affect the outcome of your story. Lady Nene gifts you a sword before the cutscene ends, preparing you for a fight the following night. The cutscene ends with Nobutsuna sensei wanting to test your skills.

Training With Nobutsuna Sensei

The first stage of the test is a set of quick-timed events. You are required to click a series of buttons in the manner shown on the screen. As you progress through each of the five stages, the number of combos increases. If you make a mistake during any of the stages, you will have to perform all the moves in that stage from the beginning.

You can keep some tips in mind while attempting this tutorial. When the button is inside a white transparent circle, with a bigger outline shrinking inwards, tap the button once the outline reaches the inner circle. When the button is surrounded by a black tube, hold the button to allow a white bar to fill up the black tube.
After practicing the five sets of combos in quick and perfect sequences, Nobutsuna sensei takes your leave. You continue to practice in the cutscene.

Kill Masatsoyo’s Students

Nighttime comes, and you approach Oda Nobunaga. He poses a challenge to fight Masatsoyo’s students to win back his mentor’s sword. The challenge is accepted, with the condition being to duel against three students simultaneously.

Once the fight begins, make sure to dodge all the red-blipped strikes by the opponents and parry the blue-blipped ones. Strike as much as you can before stepping back. Their lives are short and are faster to kill. Focus your attacks on one opponent to reduce the number of opponents.

After you kill the three students, the final cutscene triggers. You take the sword and present it back to Nobotsuna Sensei. He bows down before Lord Nobunaga and earns the status of a samurai with the name Yasuke.
