Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Wake Up Call Main Quest Walkthrough

Naoe reminisces about peaceful times with her father. Here’s a walkthrough of the Wake Up Call quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Wake Up Call is a main mission in Assassin’s Creed Shadows that starts during another mission – An Unpayable Debt.  As Naoe wakes up and exits the building, the narrative transitions 2 years in the past to a more peaceful time. This mission serves as a flashback to show Naoe’s diligent training with Nagato and her growth in observation skills. 

Here’s a simple guide to help you complete the Wake Up Call main quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Start of Wake Up Call Mission in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The mission starts with a cutscene showing a younger, carefree Naoe exiting her house. Meanwhile, Nagato is waiting outside, playing an instrument to pass the time. After a brief exchange, he begins training with Naoe. The cutscene ends here, and a small tutorial section begins.

Your first objective is to dodge Nagato’s strikes to pick up the bokken lodged in the ground. It is a wooden sword with a marker in the middle of the arena. Nagato will be guarding the bokken and will strike at you as you get close. You have to position yourself in a way that he strikes away from the sword, as he dashes slightly in the direction of his strike. Pick up the sword to begin the tutorial.

Now, you must break Nagato’s guard four times using posture attacks. Nagato doesn’t move during this, so you can stand near him and attack repeatedly. Next, you must deflect four of Nagato’s attacks. To deflect an attack, wait for the white circle that appears during an attack to shrink down to a white dot and flash. Nagato winds up his attack, giving you just enough time to deflect it.

Lastly, you need to win a duel against Nagato using everything he just taught you. The only thing to be wary of is attacks that flash red, as those are unblockable. Hit Nagato enough times, and the duel ends with Naoe as the victor. After a small cutscene, both of you head to Aunt Matsu’s house.

Helping Aunt Matsu in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

After a short walk, Nagato and Naoe reach the foot of the hill where Aunt Matsu’s cottage is located. Nagato leaves, telling Naoe to finish her chores. Run to the top, and a cutscene starts with Aunt Matsu asking for help finding some troublemakers. She then advises Naoe to climb to the top of the tower behind her house for a better view.

After the cutscene, run towards the tower, using the marker as a guide. Then, climb to the top and perch on the ledge to take in a stunning view of the entire Iga province. The thing you’re looking for is right beneath you, marked by a blue marker. Jump into the haystack and head toward the quest marker to find a deer carcass shot by an arrow. After a short cutscene, Naoe begins to suspect who the troublemakers are.

Defeat the Poachers in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Use your Intuition to spot two blue orbs west of the deer carcass. As you approach, you can soon hear the banter between two poachers. A cutscene starts when you get close enough. Here, you will have a dialogue option, but you can choose either response, as the poachers will attack Naoe regardless. Both poachers flee if you reduce either of their health to zero. Afterward, follow the marker back to Aunt Matsu’s house to inform her.

Outside the entrance, there is a ration box you can use to replenish your health. Open the door and head inside to start a long cutscene with a few dialogue choices in between. You can choose any dialogue option, as none affect the narrative. Once the cutscene ends, you continue with the An Unpayable Debt mission.
