Players are anxiously awaiting Larian Studios next big update – here is Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 4: Everything We Know!
Anticipation is building among the legions of Baldur’s Gate 3 fans as we eagerly await the arrival of Patch 4, the next major update to the epic role-playing game set in the beloved Dungeons & Dragons universe. While the patch is still on the horizon, it’s the subject of much speculation and excitement. Larian Studios has been keeping pretty quiet on the subject, but let’s take a look at what we might be able to expect and what players are hoping for in the next big update!
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 4 Release Date
Unfortunately, we do not have an anticipated release date for Patch 4 for Baldur’s Gate 3. Like many developers, Larian Studios has not released any kind of specific calendar for hotfixes or patches, which is understandable due to the nature of this kind of work. Whether they are fixing issues and known bugs or adding new content into the game, these types of changes to the game have to be tested before release. If additional work is needed, that can push back any intended release date and thus frustrate fans. It’s generally a better option to simply let the changes and Q&A testing take whatever time it needs.
Here are the release dates of the previous patches for Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Patch 1: August 25, 2023
- Patch 2: August 31, 2023
- Patch 3: September 21, 2023
Can we expect another significant patch before the end of October? While purely speculation, it’s highly likely that we will see another patch soon. If not by the end of October, then possibly early November.
Some technically inclined fans have been able to view some of the back-end elements of the game, and have discovered that pieces of the future Patch 4 are already ‘cooking’, so to speak. User mido830 on the Baldur’s Gate 3 reddit has very recently posted some evidence of the developers adding pieces of Patch 4 to the game. It’s important to realize that none of this is live in the game yet and won’t be until the full patch officially releases. But it does show proof that the patch is in the works and could be releasing any time.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 4 Content
Just a month ago Patch 3 brought players a wealth of fixes. This included the ability to change character appearances via the Magic Mirror. While we don’t have any specific information on what Patch 4 will include, it’s safe to say that the main bulk of it is likely to be bug fixes. With all of the branching dialogue, various companions and story choices, there are still plenty of things that need to be straightened out. Minthara dialogue and her romance is still something that Larian hasn’t quite been able to entirely fix. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Gale and his dialogue/romance have had additional issues crop up as patches and hotfixes have gone by.
Additionally, many fans are likely hoping for some impactful quality of life changes to the game. Some of the most hoped for changes would likely include better inventory and party management. Being able to view or change out the equipment of all your party members at once is a very highly desired update!
Finally, there has been speculation about larger, brand new additions to the game that future patches might bring. In terms of content, one of the most requested elements are much more fleshed out endings for your character and companions. It’s been a common criticism of an otherwise very good game that the ending can feel rather thin, especially when you’ve made certain story choices. Larian Studios has already given us one such needed portion, when they added an additional ending sequence for Karlach.
What to Expect in the Future?
Can we expect more of the same for Patch 4? It’s honestly difficult to say. If Larian decides to add in these extra endings piecemeal to the game, as they did for Karlach, then it’s possible that they could be added to the game spread out in multiple patches. But it’s also possible that the developers may decide to hold the rest back and release new endings together, as a whole.
