Epilogue Addition

Baldur's Gate 3 New Epilogue party at High Hall

Just as the developers at Larian Studios promised in a previous X/Twitter post earlier this week, Patch 5 is bringing with it a requested Epilogue addition. Now that the Patch has officially been released, we’ve learned more specifics about just what this new epilogue is. As teased in the original ‘invitation from Withers’, the new epilogue chapter will take place during a party. Your character and their old companions have gathered together again, this time at a camp in High Hall, overlooking the city of Baldur’s Gate.

Your epilogue is defined by you. This is the culmination of every choice and consequence that you’ve made since the very start of your adventure, a gigantic tree of permutations that leads to an opportunity to reflect on that journey before you say goodbye.

You’ll get to reunite with all of your companions and speak to each of them about what they’ve been doing and their thoughts on your previous adventures. Additionally, you’ll get to read letters from old friends and acquaintances. And catch up on the latest news via the Baldur’s Mouth Gazette. All of which will let you see how you and your actions taken during the game have changed the world around you.

Larian also highlighted that you can also expect “new music, brand new faces at camp, and a possible special cinematic ending for Gale and Lae’zel.” All the more reason to start your second, third, sixth, or ninth playthrough!

Improved Inventory UI

Camp Companions - BG3
Baldur's Gate 3 Inventory Mass Sort option

Secondly, another major update that fans of the game will be very excited to see will be the improved Inventory UI! A much-requested feature that has now been added to the game with Patch 5 is the ability to manage the inventory of companions who are not in your active party. Previously, in order to access the inventory of companions at camp, you would have to put them in your active party. But no more! Now you can access everyone’s inventory, all from one single UI.

Furthermore, you now have the ability to mass-sort your active party’s inventory. Pressing ‘Tab’ on PC will open up the UI to view all of your party members and their inventories. Over on the upper left, you can now sort the inventory of the entire party collectively by using the drop down box. As seen on individual inventories, the choices remain Latest, Value, Weight, and Type.

Honour Mode

BG3 Honour Mode Patch 5 Release

Honour Mode was one of the new features that we had previously speculated had strong chance of being included in Patch 5. It’s official inclusion is exciting to see, with Honour Mode offering a massive new challenge to players looking for something to test their skills. Honour Mode is not just more difficult that Tactician. Playing it limits you to a single save file – meaning that in order to complete this mode you cannot have a total party loss even once. You can’t ‘save scum’, either. Whatever results the dice give you, you have to live with.

Significantly, the developers at Larian Studios have more surprises in store for anyone who thinks they have all of the big boss fights memorized. Not only are the bosses harder, but they will have access to some moves you’ve never seen before.

Over 30 new tweaks to all of Baldur’s Gate 3’s boss-fights, with a new Legendary Action system designed to catch players off-guard and increase the challenge. Now, bosses can perform new actions, adding twists and turns to all major fights throughout the game.

Baldur's Gate 3 The Golden D20

Finally, for those who can scale the mountain, there is a unique in-game reward! For anyone who can successfully reach the end of the game and defeat the final boss in Honour Mode you will receive the Golden D20. There are already a few different dice skins officially offered in the game, as well as others offered through mods. The Golden D20 is something special, though, and can only be used on future playthroughs once you’ve earned it by completing Honour Mode.

Custom Mode

BG3 - Custom Mode Patch 5 Release

Lastly, the final new feature addition to Patch 5 is the addition of a Custom Mode. This can be used by anyone looking to craft their own experience. But it is really geared towards original Dungeons & Dragons players. Fans of the original tabletop experience can now use the settings provided in Custom Mode to create a Baldur’s Gate 3 play through that is more like how a tabletop session would play.

For example, you can now choose to hide enemy health bars. This would keep you in the dark about how powerful an enemy is or when its health is low. You can also turn off the ability to see failed Perception Checks. Normally, these can give you a hint that something is nearby. However, hiding them would provide a more ‘real’ experience because you shouldn’t have really known anything was there to find. Other changes include the ability to have short rests fully heal the party, separately increase or decrease enemy aggression or character power, or disable Death Saving Throws.
