The ESO Necrom Chapter adds the Arcanist class, with unique skills and passives that channel Apocrypha’s magic to create ancient runes.

This Page lists and explains all skills and passives for the Arcanist class that launches in June 2023. Like all other The Elder Scrolls Online classes, Arcanist has all the tools to heal, deal considerable damage and fulfil the tank’s classic role in group scenarios.

The Arcanist class channels the magic of Apocrypha to create arcane, ancient runes and lost tomes of power to wild the powerful magic. It is capable of destructive, restorative, or defensive magic. This class skills have beautiful visual effects, heavily themed after Hermaeus Mora and his unique green and shadow look.

All Arcanist Skills in ESO

Arcanist, similar to other ESO classes, have three skill trees with active skills and passives in each one. below is a complete list of all Arcanist class skills.

Herald of the Tome

ESO Arcanist’s Herald of the Tome skills and passives are dedicated to damage dealers. Among those abilities, you can find ways to not only consume cruxes but also easily generate them with crucial skills like Runeblades.

The Unblinking Eye – Ult

  • Cast Time: Instant

Tear open the fabric of the Aurbis to summon a scion of Hermaeus Mora. This being casts forth a beam that rends asunder reality for 6 seconds and deals X Magic Damage to enemies within 3 meters every 0.5 seconds.

The scion’s beam can be repositioned by recasting The Unblinking Eye.

Morph – The King’s Gaze

NEW EFFECT: Beam automatically follows the initial Target

NEW EFFECT: Deals increased damage and the last rune deals damage in an area.

Morph – Cephaliarch’s Flail

NEW EFFECT: Creates a Crux and deals increased damage to enemies below half health.

You deal 5% increased damage to enemies drenched in Abyssal Ink.

Morph – Tentacular Dread

NEW EFFECT: Converts into a Magica ability and deals Frost Damage. Consume Crux to increase the Abyssal Ink strength and immobilize duration.

Damage to foes drenched in Abyssal Ink is increased by 5% and immobilization duration is increased by 1 second per Crux spent.

Tome-Bearer’s Inspiration

  • Cast Time: Instant

Etch a series of runes onto your weapon that pulse with power once every 5 seconds. Each pulse enhances your class abilities, and striking an enemy with one deals an additional X Magic Damage and generates Crux if you have none.

While slotted on either ability bar, gain Major Brutality and Major Sorcery, increasing your Weapon and Spell Damage by 20%.

Morph – Inspired Scholarship

NEW EFFECT: Increases the frequency of damage

Etch a series of runes onto your weapon that pulse with power once every 3 seconds. Each pulse enhances your class abilities, and striking an enemy with one deals an additional X Magic Damage and generates Crux if you have none.

Morph – Recuperative Treatise

NEW EFFECT: When dealing damage, restore Magica and Stamina.

The Imperfect Ring

Summon a flawed rune under an enemy that etches foes nearby with scrawled glyphs, dealing X Magic Damage over 20 seconds.

An ally near The Imperfect Ring original target can activate the Runebreak synergy, dealing X Frost Damage to enemies within 7 meters.

Morph – Rune of Displacement

NEW EFFECT: Places a rune under the target that deals damage and pulls nearby enemies after a delay.

An ally near The Imperfect Ring original target can activate the Runebreak synergy, dealing X Frost Damage to enemies within 7 meters.

Morph – Fulminating Rune

NEW EFFECT: Deals additional area damage after a delay. Allies can use a synergy to increase the damage dealt.

Summon a explosive rune under an enemy that etches foes nearby with scrawled glyphs, dealing 11187 Magic Damage over 20 seconds.

The rune lingers on the initial target for 6 seconds before detonating, dealing X Frost Damage to enemies within 7 metres. Rune detonation cannot be primed with Fulminating Rune again for 6 seconds.

Up to 3 allies near you can activate the Intensify synergy, increasing the detonation damage by 10%.

Soldier of Apocrypha

ESO Arcanist’s Soldier of Apocrypha skills and passives focus on defenses and survival. They are great for Tanks in PvE and may PvP builds.

Gibbering Shield – Ult

  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Target: Self
  • Duration: 10 seconds
  • Cost: 200 Ultimate

Gather the true strength of Apocrypha around you, forming protective tentacles and a damage shield that absorbs 50% of all damage for 10 second up to a max of 39107 damage.

When the shield collapses you lash out, dealing all of the damage absorbed as Magic Damage to enemies within 5 metres over 10 seconds.

Morph – Sanctum of the abyssal Sea

NEW EFFECT: Damage shield gains an increase in strength.

  • Duration: 10 seconds

Gather the true strength of Apocrypha as protective tentacles rise from the Abyssal Sea around you. The tentacles form a damage shield that absorbs 50% of all damage for 10 seconds up to a max of X damage.

When the shield collapses you lash out, dealing all of the damage absorbed as Magic Damage to enemies within 5 metres over 10 seconds.

Morph – Gibbering Shelter

NEW EFFECT: No longer deals damage to enemies and grants allies a damage shield when you are hit.

Gather the true strength of Apocrypha around you, forming protective tentacles and a damage shield that absorbs 50% of all damage for 10 second up to a max of X damage.

When the shield absorbs damage, pseudopods lash out to surround up to 6 allies within 15 metres, granting them a damage shield for 4 seconds that absorbs up to X damage. These shields can be applied once every 1 second.

Runic Jolt

  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Target: Enemy
  • Range: 10 meters
  • Cost: 1620 Magicka

Craft a defensive Apocryphal rune that deals X Magic Damage and applies Minor Maim for 15 seconds, reducing their damage done by 5%.

The rune taunts the enemy to attack you for 15 seconds and generates Crux. Taunt does not apply if it would cause taunt immunity.

Morph – Runic Sunder

NEW EFFECT: Converts into a Stamina ability and deals Physical Damage, Reduce your target’s Armor and gain Armor.

Craft a defensive Apocryphal rune that deals X Physical Damage. The rune steals X Armor and applies Minor Maim for 15 seconds, reducing their damage done by 5%.

Morph – Runic Embrace

NEW EFFECT: Heal yourself and apply Minor Lifesteal.

The rune taunts the enemy to attack you for 15 seconds and generates Crux. Taunt does not apply if it would cause taunt immunity.

Runespite Ward

The first time you take direct damage after casting, the shield retaliates and deals X Magic Damage to the attacker. This damage scales off of your Armor.

Morph – Spiteward of the Lucid Mind

NEW EFFECT: Consume Crux to refund cost

The first time you take direct damage after casting, the shield retaliates and deals X Magic Damage to the attacker. This damage scales off of your Armor.

Consume Crux to increase the damage shield strength by 20% and refund 21% of Spiteward of the Lucid Mind  cost per Crux spent.

Morph – Impervious Runeward

NEW EFFECT: Drastically increases the size of the damage shield for the first second.

NEW EFFECT: Increase buff duration and when damaged, create a Crux

Forge defiant runic armor around you, granting Major Resolve for 27 seconds and increasing your Armor by 5948.

While the armor persists, taking damage applies Minor Breach and reduces the Armor of your attacker by X for 6 seconds. Blows against your armor also generate Crux, up to once every 5 seconds.

Morph – Unbreakable Fate

NEW EFFECT: Gain Block Mitigation and consume Crux to increase the bonus.

Runic Defense

  • Cast Time:  Instant

Cast forth a complex runic aura, granting yourself Minor Protection and your group members Minor Resolve for 20 seconds. This protective lattice reduces your damage taken by 5% and increases group Armor by X.

The first time you are damaged while below 50% Health, the Minor Protection is consumed to heal you for X Health.

Morph – Runic Stunward

NEW EFFECT: Stuns nearby enemies.

  • Cast Time:  Instant
  • Target: Area
  • Radius: 10 meters

Cast forth a complex runic aura that stun enemies within 7 metres for 2 seconds. This aura grants you Minor Protection and your group members Minor Resolve for 17 seconds. While the lattice holds, it reduces your damage taken by 5% and increases group Armor by 2974.

The first time you are damaged while below 50% Health, the Minor Protection is consumed to heal you for X Health.

Morph – Runeguard of Freedom

NEW EFFECT: Also grants Armor and Crowd Control immunity when the heal occurs.

Cast forth a complex runic aura, granting yourself Minor Protection and your group members Minor Resolve for 20 seconds. Its complex lattice reduces your damage taken by 5% and increases group Armor by X.

The first time you are damaged while below 50% Health, the Minor Protection is consumed to heal you for X Health, to gain X Armor and apply Crowd Control Immunity for 6 seconds. This immunity can only occur once every 30 seconds.

Rune of Eldritch Horror

  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Target: Enemy
  • Range: 15 meters
  • Duration: 4 seconds
  • Cost: 3780 Magicka

Etch an incomprehensible rune on your enemy’s mind, paralyzing them in fear after a 1 second delay, stunning them for 4 seconds. This terror applies Minor Vulnerability for 10 seconds, increasing their damage taken by 5%.

If used against a monster, the paralyze lasts for 8 seconds.

This ability cannot be dodged.

Morph – Rune of Uncanny Adoration

NEW EFFECT: Charms and snares the target

  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Target: Enemy
  • Range: 15 meters
  • Duration: 4 seconds
  • Cost: 3780 Magicka

Etch an blasphemous rune on your enemy’s mind, charming them in fear after a 1 second delay for 4 seconds. This eldritch attraction causes them to move towards the player while snared by 50%, and applies Minor Vulnerability for 10 seconds, increasing their damage taken by 5%.

If used against a monster, the charm lasts for 8 seconds.

This ability cannot be dodged.

Morph – Rune of the Colorless pool

NEW EFFECT: Applies Minor Brittle to the target

  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Target: Enemy
  • Range: 15 meters
  • Duration: 4 seconds
  • Cost: 3780 Magicka

Etch an amorphous rune on your enemy’s mind, paralyzing them in fear after a 1 second delay, stunning them for 4 seconds. This undimensioned phenomenon applies Minor Vulnerability and Minor Brittle to your foe for 14 seconds, increasing their damage taken by 5%, and their Critical Damage taken by 10%.

If used against a monster, the paralyze lasts for 8 seconds.

This ability cannot be dodged.

Curative Runeforms

ESO Arcanist’s Curative Runeforms skills and passives can be used primarily in support roles. However, the skill tree has the most healing and buffing capabilities, useful not only for healers or tanks but also for solo players and in PvP modes.

Vitalizing Glyphic – Ult

Morph – Glyphic of the Tides

NEW EFFECT: The glyphic spawns at a higher Health percentage.

Morph – Resonating Glyph

NEW EFFECT: Dealing damage to the glyphic powers it up instead of healing it.

Morph – Curative Surge

NEW EFFECT: The beam gradually heals for more the longer you channel it.

In ESO, Arcanist’s passives are even more important than active skills because that’s how your characters become really powerful. All players should always pay attention to ensure those passive buffs are activated, and their effects utilised as much as possible.

Herald of the Tome

  • Fated Fortune
    • Wrap fate when you gain or spend Crux, increasing your Critical Damage and Critical Healing by 12% for 7 seconds.
  • Harnessed Quintessence
    • You master the wrap and weft of your very soul. When you are restored Magica or Stamina, increase your Weapon and Sell Damage by 5% for 10 seconds.
  • Psychic Lesion
    • WITH A HERALD OF THE TOME ABILITY SLOTTED
    • Your attacks wound the mind with heretical knowledge, increasing damage dealt by Status Effects by 15%.
  • Splintered Secrets
    • What you don’t know can kill you. Increase your Physical and Spell Penetration by X per Herald of the Tome ability slotted.

Soldier of Apocrypha

  • Aegis of the Unseen
    • Form a secret soldier within your mind, a defence against arcane forces without. While a Soldier of Apocrypha ability is active on you, increase your Armor by X.
  • Wellspring of the Abyss
    • Apocryphal knowledge bubbles up from the depths of your psyche, increasing your Health, Magicka, and Stamina Recovery by X for each Soldier of Apocrypha ability slotted.
  • Circumvented Fate
    • Casting an Arcanist ability warps the weave of fate around you, granting you and your group members Minor Evasion for 20 seconds and reducing damage from area attacks by 10%. This effect can occur once every 5 seconds.
  • Implacable Outcome
    • The will of an Arcanist is absolute. When you consume Crux, gain 4 Ultimate. This effect can occur once every 8 seconds.

Curative Runeforms

  • Healing Tides
    • Your mastery of weaving fate and abyssal water increases your healing done by 3% for each active Crux.
  • Hideous Clarity
    • You’ve stared too long into the abyss. When you generate Crux, you restore 225 Magicka or Stamina, whichever maximum is higher.
  • Erudition
    • Knowledge is power. Your excessive scholarship increases your Magicka and Stamina Recovery by 18%.
  • Intricate Runeforms
    • WITH A CURATIVE RUNEFORMS ABILITY SLOTTED
    • Your status as illuminatus reduces the cost and increases the strength of your damage shields by 10%.
