How To Find and Defeat The Noble in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In this guide, we shall go over how to find and defeat The Noble in the main story of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The Shinbakfu kick off the story of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and are the shadows referenced in the game’s title. They immediately establish their importance in the game’s story by murdering Naoe’s father, kicking off the revenge quest in the game. The Noble is one of the Shinbakfu with blood on his hands and needs to be brought to justice. 

The Noble has concealed his real identity, however, and first needs to be drawn out by completing a series of quests first. Once his identity is revealed, you can then proceed to assassinate The Noble and strike off another of the Shinbakfu. Where To Find The Noble in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Rengakai

Your hunt for The Noble kicks off by meeting the renga master south of Himeji Castle in the Harima region of AC Shadows. The renga master then leads you to Lord Kuroda Kanbei. The Lord is hosting a Rengakai in order to strengthen his alliances before the war kicks off. As you meet him, Kanbei informs you of an impending attack on Hideyoshi’s allies, an attack that seeks to disrupt Kanbei and Hideyoshi’s war efforts against Mitsuhide. He suspects an attack on the allies will take place in the Rengakai. 

Once the conversation wraps up, follow Ukita Hideie and talk to the guests along the way. The little boy will take you to the Rengakai event, kicking off a long cutscene. One of the Rengakai participants takes great curiosity in you, questioning your motives for being at the event despite not holding any political significance. The participant is then revealed to be Ukita Naoie, the father of the little boy you met earlier. As Ukita Naoie recites his portion of poetry for the event, you hear several footsteps closing in on your chamber. Gunshots follow the sound of footsteps shortly after, and chaos erupts at the venue. 

A group of Ronin have attacked the site, confirming Kanbei’s suspicions from earlier. Break through your chamber door and head outside to fight off the attackers. Once done, you will be reunited with Yasuke. Ukita Naoie then shows up, declaring that his son has been taken. You have to find the kidnapped son, and your first lead is the missing castle commander, Tokubei. Your second lead is the strange scent that the attackers had. With two leads to follow, pick between Naoe and Yasuke to end the quest.

The Scent of War 

As Naoe, you first investigate the lead on the strange scent emitted by the Ronin attackers earlier. To do so, you need to meet up with Konishi Yukinaga near the Old Port of Aga in the southernmost point of Harima. Yukinaga stands beside a shed, pondering over the scent of the attackers. When asked about it, he claims that he has encountered the scent before on some of his business associates. These associates have tied up with him and Naoie in an effort to reconstruct holy sites. These merchant associates are from Bizen, the very place where Naoie is the Daimyo. The merchants now expect a shipment shortly after the attack and are at the Aga Port awaiting their merchandise. 

Head to the port nearby to find the armed “merchants.” After a short conversation, the group turns hostile and attacks you. Kill your attackers, and you will find their inventory order. The inventory order states that they’re storing their equipment at Hontokuji Temple. Take a boat from the docks and sail to Hontokuji on the southwestern end of Harima. 

Enter the temple from the northern end but beware that it is heavily guarded. Scale the temple fence and work your way west along the perimeter. Explore the buildings on the western and northern ends of the temple grounds to find clues. Uncover the clues to reveal that the shipment was weapons disguised as incense. Head back to Yukinaga to relay the information and complete the quest.

Losing Hand

Next, you have to follow up on the lead of the missing commander Tokubei. To do so, you have to meet up and question his wife, Suzu, in western Himeji, Harima. Bandits have taken hold of Tokubei’s house. Kill the bandits in the area and talk to Suzu. Talking to Suzu reveals that Tokubei was in massive debt and may have been gambling. The commander also kept a shrine relic in his room, a behavior unlike his. She asks you to look for the missing commander in the gambling den in town. Head to the Himeji Guild Storage south of Himeji Castle and enter the basement to find the hidden Gambling Den. You will find Tokubei here. 

Talk to Tokubei, and he will recognize you. He will ask you to head upstairs for a talk, but will immediately bail after setting guards off on you. Evade the guards and chase Tokubei across town. Once cornered, Tokubei will stand his ground and fight. Defeat him to get him talking. Tokubei reveals that some samurai from Chugoku ordered the attack on the allies on behalf of his master. He will hand you intel on the attack, ending the quest.

A Peculiar Guest

With intel in hand, you now need to decipher it. Head to the Junisho Shrine in Harima and talk to the miko in the garden. Noticing the shrine fortune in your hand, she will turn hostile. Defeat her and retrieve the letter from her body. This letter directs you to the Itatehyozu Shrine in southeastern Himeji. 

Explore the shrine and you will find Ukita Hideie, the boy who was kidnapped earlier. Escort the boy out of the shrine, and you will stumble across his father. The boy is taken away, and when confronted about the inconsistencies surrounding his stories, Naoie reveals himself to be The Noble. The Noble confesses his goal of killing both Hideyoshi and Kanbei and sets you up for an ambush. Fight off your attackers to complete the quest.

With The Noble’s identity revealed you have to rush back and warn Kanbei. Despite the warning, Kanbei refuses to call off his meeting with Naoie, believing that doing so would lose them the opportunity to strike. With the meeting set to continue, you can then choose to play as Naoe or Yasuke. 

With Naoe selected, you then have to find the infiltrators in the castle. These infiltrators are all across the training ground, northern gardens, and near the big tree. Head to the eastern end of the castle, and you will spot a lone guard separate from the others. Kill this guard and scale up the wall right next to him, and you will spot a suspicious servant patrolling the garden. Kill the servant to eliminate your second target. Continue east and head deeper into the castle till you find the big tree. A shinobi disguised as a cook will be resting beside the tree. Kill the final shinobi to eliminate all the infiltrators. 

Move deeper towards the southeastern end of the castle and unlock the Honmaru Gate to reunite with Yasuke. You have to check up on Kanbei and have to pick between Yasuke and Naoe to do so. Once selected, you have to clear out and secure the Honmaru. Once cleared, head to the meeting spot and eavesdrop on the meeting between Kanbei and The Noble. 

How To Defeat The Noble

In their secret meeting, Kanbei will reveal the truth, accusing The Noble of being the brains behind the Rengakai incident. The Noble will threaten to kill him, and the situation will escalate. Naoe and Yasuke will break into the room, and so will Naoie’s guards. The Noble will escape, and you will have to pursue him as Naoe or Yasuke. We recommend picking Yasuke as he can better deal with The Noble’s forces.

As Yasuke, give chase and shred through the ronin blocking your path. Cut through the castle and make your way to the Tenshu. Go all the way up, and you will find The Noble resting beside a table. With the man coming to terms with his death, you can pick to finish him off as Yasuke or Naoe. With both having personal stakes in this quest, you can pick either. 

The Noble has a standard moveset and is no real match for you on his own. The real threat comes from his smoke bombs and backup. He’ll throw down smokes, after which a Shinobi will attack from behind. There will be multiple Shinobi following suit, so kill them all quickly and get back to attacking The Noble. If you are having a difficult time doing so, try to juggle attacks between the minions and the boss himself. Chip away at his HP to clinch victory and defeat him for good.
