What is the Clown Hammer in BG3?
Obtained in Act 3, the Clown Hammer is a rare +2 Warhammer that comes with a risk-reward trait that triggers on a critical hit. Additionally, it is a versatile weapon, which means that you can choose to wield it with one hand or two. Like all hammers, the damage type it deals is bludgeoning and you can also use it to knock down some walls or doors.
Furthermore, warhammers have unique weapon actions that you can use to knock an enemy prone or daze them. The Clown Hammer does require Martial Weapons Proficiency which means that its use will be limited by class and/or race. Barbarians, Fighters, Paladins, and Rangers all have this class proficiency, while Dwarves can use warhammers because of their racial weapons proficiency.

How to get Clown Hammer in BG3?
To get the Clown Hammer in Baldur’s Gate 3 you must progress through the game until you reach Rivington in Act 3, visit the Circus of the Last Days, find Dribbles, and then defeat him in the following fight.
After reaching Rivington, the Circus of the Last Days can be found to the northwest. You can easily reach it by following the path that goes left from the Rivington waypoint. If you can’t get past the ‘guards’ at the main gate, then head farther north and go through the hole in the broken fence.
You can find Dribbles at the start of a performance on the Stage in the northeast corner of the Circus. As your group approaches, he will try to draw you into the act. You can go up yourself, or encourage another companion to do so. Shortly after, Dribbles reveals himself to be a Doppelganger named Fumm.
By this point in the game, this shouldn’t be a hugely difficult fight. However, you’ll be up against more than just the clown. Watch your back, because Shadow-Whiskers the displacer beast will join in.
Finally, after the fight is over, find ‘Dribbles’ body and loot the Clown Hammer from him.
How to use Clown Hammer in BG3?
While the risk of the potential debuff from the Clown Hammer may put you off its use at first, there is a way to protect yourself from it! Should the wielder apply clown face paint, they can avoid being inhibited by the critical hit effect. In fact, it provides immunity to the Hideous Laughter condition from not only Grim Irony but also Tasha’s Hideous Laughter. You can get clown face paint from Zara the Mummy, who is near the main entrance to the Circus.
With this in mind, a Ranger playing a stealth build could make good use of this Hammer. You’ll also want to acquire other gear that can reduce the threshold for a critical hit like the Shade-Slayer Cloak, the Dead Shot, and Sarevok’s Horned Helmet. Additionally, you could also drink an Elixir of Viciousness to add yet another stack.
