How to Get Infernal Robe in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Infernal Robe is a great starting chest armour for spellcasters in Baldur’s Gate 3, and you can get it in Act 1 – This short Guide explains everything you need to know about the Infernal Robe in BG3.

Baldur's Gate 3 Infernal Robe

Infernal Robe

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Infernal Robe is one of the few pieces of Very Rare gear that can be obtained early in Act 1, depending upon how you play. It does require a great sacrifice, in the form of losing one of the most popular companions (the previous bypass around this has been patched out). Is the trade-off worth it?

The primary bonus features the Infernal Robe grants the wearer is an overall increase in Armour Class and Fire Resistance. Another great feature is the access to the Fire Shield: Warm spell which can be cast once per Long Rest. This spell creates scorching flames which shed light in a 3 m / 10 ft radius. You take only half the damage of all Cold damage and deal 2d8Fire damage to anyone who hits you with a melee attack.

Here are all Infernal Robe features in BG3:

  • Armour Type: Clothing, Robe
  • Armour Class: 10 AC
  • Proficiency Requirement: No Requirements
  • Rarity: Very Rare Clothing
  • Weight: 1.8 kg
  • Value: 1600
  • Location: Reward from Mizora for fulfilling Wyll’s obligation to kill Karlach
  • Bonuses:
    • Cast Fire Shield (Warm) once per Long Rest.
    • Armour Class +1
    • Grants Resistance to Fire Damage.
  • Classes and Races That Can Equip It: All characters can equip this robe.

Baldur's Gate 3 Wyll Location

To get the Infernal Robe in Baldur’s Gate 3 you will need to first recruit Wyll in the Druid Grove, and then find and kill Karlach, as he has been ordered to do so by Mizora. The next time you take a Long Rest (assuming that some other important story scene isn’t rated higher, it may take another Long Rest to trigger), Mizora will appear at camp and reward Wyll with the Infernal Robe. While the scene plays out with her magically clothing Wyll in it, the Robe will actually be in your inventory at the end of the scene.

How to Get Infernal Robe in Baldur’s Gate 3 Without Killing Karlach

Sadly, as of Patch 5 it is no longer possible to get the Infernal Robe without killing Karlach. Since it appears that Larian has already gone to the trouble of fixing this once, this consequence is clearly intended to happen. If another work around is found then we’ll post it here, but for now this option is no longer available.

It was possible to get the Infernal Robe without (irretrievably) killing Karlach. We’ve kept the recorded steps below, however this method no longer works.

  1. Go to the Druid Grove and recruit Wyll
  2. Put Wyll in your party
  3. Make your way to where Karlach is. But before you get to her, unchain Wyll from the group and leave him behind down the road.
  4. Approach Karlach from a distance. Do not interact with her or trigger her intro conversation!
  5. Attack her at range. Fight and kill her with yourself and two other companions.
  6. Return to camp immediately. Speak to Wyll, and the tadpole connection should show him you have beaten Karlach.
  7. Leave camp, returning alone to Karlach’s body. Stand the maximum distance from Karlach you can, and use a Scroll of Revivify on her.
  8. Move away from her immediately as she comes up. She should heal herself and return to her original position.
  9. Return to camp and Long Rest. The scene with Mizora should play out and you should receive the Infernal Robe.
  10. Speak to Wyll again immediately after the scene with Mizora. Then rest for the night.
  11. In the morning, keep Wyll in your group.
  12. Go trigger the intro conversation with Karlach. You should now be able to recruit her as normal.
Recruiting Karlach after Reviving Her

The initial conversation with Karlach will play out as if you had never killed her in the first place. Wyll will not acknowledge it, he will speak to her as if they are meeting for the first time. You will have to make the usual choices in order to get him to stand down and spare her.
