How to Get Ring of Protection in Baldur’s Gate 3

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Ring of Protection is a good jewelry piece for melee builds, and you can get it during Act 1 – this short Guide explains everything you need to know about the Ring of Protection in BG3.

Baldur's Gate 3 Ring of Protection

Ring of Protection

In Baldur’s Gate 3 the Ring of Protection is a strong accessory piece that will grant any character or class additional survivability. While the ring does not have any ‘named’ bonuses, it will give the wearer a +1 to both Armour Class and to Saving Throws. The second bonuses is especially beneficial, given that the +1 is not limited to a certain ability-based Saving Throw, but to all types.

This ring would be highly useful for any class. For spellcasters such as Sorcerers and Wizards, classes which tend to wear cloth robes, this ring would provide a nice boost to their armor class while not negatively influencing their ability to cast spells. Additionally, frontline damage dealers and tanky classes, such as Barbarians, Fighters and Paladins, would also benefit from this ring, given that they are mostly likely be to under attack during combat.

Here are all Ring of Regeneration Ring features in BG3:

  • Armor: Ring
  • Proficiency Requirement: N/A
  • Weight: 0.05 kg
  • Value: 70
  • Location: Reward from Mol for completing the quest Steal the Sacred Idol, Act 1
  • Bonuses:
    • Armour Class +1
    • Saving Throw +1
  • All Classes, Companions, and Races Can Use This Item

Where to find Ring of Protection in Baldur’s Gate 3

To find the Ring of Protection in Baldur’s Gate 3 you will have to complete an Act 1 quest called Steal the Sacred Idol. The Ring of Protection will be your reward at the end of the quest. Consequently, you cannot find the ring in a chest or out in the world of BG3.

How to Get Ring of Protection in Baldur’s Gate 3

If you complete the quest Steal the Sacred Idol for the Tiefling child Mol during the course of Act 1, she will give you the Ring of Protection as a reward. Here is a short overview of how to get the Ring of Protection in BG3:

  1. Earn Mol’s trust
    • Save Mirkon from the Harpies
    • Save Arabella from Khaga
    • Do not threaten any of the Tiefling children
  2. Visit Mol in the Dragon’s Lair to receive the Steal the Sacred Idol quest
  3. Start the Investigate Kagha quest
    • Find evidence she is a Shadow Druid
  4. Confront Kagha to end the ritual
  5. Steal the Idol
    • Make sure the Druids do not see you
  6. Give the Idol to Mol

Earn Mol’s Trust

The best way to earn Mol’s trust is by saving Mirkon from the Harpies. In doing so, Mirkon will also give you the location of the Tiefling children’s hideout as well as the password to get in. You can find Mirkon and the harpies at the Secluded Cove, which is north of the Emerald Grove. After getting past the Druid guards at the stone entrance, have your party take an immediate left and follow the pathway up northeast. You’ll hear some strange music, and find the harpies singing, holding Mirkon in sway. You’ll have to defeat them in combat in order to save him.

Helping Arabella is a quest you are likely to pick up just before entering the Druid Grove for the first time. As you approach the stone arch and the guards beneath, you should overhear some Tiefling parents fearing for their child. Once you get past the guards and inside the Grove, head to the right and find the stone door entrance to the Druid’s lair. Inside you’ll find Kagha threatening the child with her snake familiar. Convince her to let Arabella go.

Visit Mol in the Dragon’s Lair

You can find the secret entrance to the Dragon’s Lair over near the oxen in The Hollow. Speak to a Tiefling child named Domi who is loitering around the area. He’s not very communicative, but when the dialogue pops up, ask him directly where the Dragon’s Lair is and he will unlock the secret entrance for you. It will likely be right nearby, along the rock wall behind him.

Baldur's Gate 3 Concealed Hatch to Dragon's Lair

Inside this cave area will be a number of Tiefling children – you’re looking to speak to Mol directly. She’ll thank you for helping Mirkon and Arabella. She may end the conversation at this point, but just interact with her again and ask her if she needs any help. She’ll tell you she wants you to steal the Idol of Silvanus from the Druids so they can’t complete their ritual. Agree to this, but don’t go and steal the idol yet. Doing so at this point will turn the Druids hostile and they will attack all the Tieflings in the Hollow. Even though the children where in their hideout, in my game, at least, once the fighting was over Mol was gone and the Idol could not be turned in. Instead, you’ll want to pick up another quest at this point.

Investigate Kagha

If you can neutralize Kagha the Druids will stop the ritual. To start the quest, go inside the Druid’s Lair and into the Servant’s Quarters area. There will be an area in the back where you can climb up a nondescript ledge. Once up top, walk back a little ways to find a locked chest. Crouch first to make sure you aren’t seen and you’ll have to pass a Sleight of Hand 10DC check in order to open it. Read the Half-Torn Note inside, which will point you to a tree near the docks in the swamp.

Baldur's Gate 3 Investigate Kagha steps

To find this secret location, head down to the south of the map to find the ‘swamp’ or Putrid Bog. You’ll need to find the end of some decrepit looking docks and then jump a couple of times to rocky areas nearby. The tree referred to in the note is far south and is a very large stump. Be prepared because when you first arrive you’ll immediately be placed into battle with two Wood Woads and several Mud Mephits. Once that fight is over, go around to the west side of the stump and use the Fire Bolt cantrip to burn away the vines on the ground. Afterwards you should be able to walk up to the stump and find the crevice, which will give you the evidence you need to confront Kagha.

Stealing the Idol

Return to the Druid’s lair and initiate a conversation with Kagha to confront her. The Shadow Druids will reveal themselves and you can present your evidence to Rath. At this point you can try to Persuade her that she is in the wrong (15DC). If successful she will change sides, but you’ll still have to fight the other Shadow Druids. Defeat them and the Druids will stop the ritual outside. After all of that, you can now steal the Idol without the Druids attacking all of the Tieflings. However, they still won’t like you taking their stuff, so here’s the best way to do it.

Baldur's Gate 3 Stealing the Idol of Silvanus for Mol

To steal the idol you’ll need one of two things – a party member with the Fog or Darkness spell, or a scroll for either. Cast the spell around the Idol to obscure it. Have a party member step up, grab the Idol and immediately hit the button to go directly to your camp. The Idol should be in your inventory and none of the Druid guards can confront you about it. In camp, pull up your map, and use it to fast travel to the Emerald Grove Environs waypoint.

You should be able to freely walk back to the Dragon’s Lair and give the Idol to Mol. Congrats! The Ring of Protection is now yours.
