Everything about Sussur Bloom in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 Sussur Bloom tooltip

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Sussur Bloom is a unique story item that can nullify magic and be used to power the generator found in the basement of the Arcane Tower. Furthermore, it can only be found in the Underdark during Act 1. If you carry it with you back to the surface it will wilt and become a Withered Sussur Petal. Consequently, the Withered Sussur Petal is useless and does not appear to be a known ingredient for any potion or elixir.

Moreover, standing near a Sussar Bloom or carrying one with you inflicts the Sussur Antimagic Field condition. This condition nullifies all nearby magic and can apply to both living creatures as well as magical artifacts and constructs. Additionally, although it prevents the use of spells, not all magical actions are affected. For example, Clerics can still use Channel Divinity.

Consequently, Sussar Blooms will seriously impact the combat ability of any Wizards or Sorcerers in your party because they will not be able to cast spells. When you collect a Sussar Bloom, it’s best to use a melee character to pick it up. The Antimagic Field will still affect spellcasters within its radius, but it will make it easier to move them to a distance away when fighting.

How to Find a Sussur Bloom in Baldur’s Gate 3

There are two locations where you can find Sussar Bloom flowers in Baldur’s Gate 3, and both of them are down in the Underdark. The best way to get into the Underdark in BG3 is by using a Feather Fall spell or potion to jump into the glowing Chasm in the Whispering Depths. Here are the locations where you can find a Sussar Bloom:

  1. On and around the giant Sussar Tree in the northwest portion of the Underdark.
  2. Behind the Arcane Tower in the lower southwest corner of the Underdark.

Once you reach the Sussar Tree in the Underdark it should be easy to search out and find one or two of these glowing blue flowers. Additionally, while you are there you should collect some Sussar Bark for crafting some Masterwork weapons in the Blighted Village.

Secondly, after you reach the entrance to the Arcane Tower in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can use the mushroom surfaces off to the left to jump your way down. The Misty Step spell or Feather Fall would again be very helpful here. Down around the back of the Arcane Tower, you will find two Sussar Blooms. Have a melee character collect at least one, and then you can use the nearby door to enter the Arcane Tower basement.

Underdark - How to Fix the Arcane Tower Elevator in Baldur's Gate 3

Sussar Blooms have two primary uses in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  1. Power the Elevator’s Generator in the basement of the Arcane Tower.
    • This will also cause the magical turrets to turn off.
  2. To shut down magical construct enemies.

You will only need one Sussar Bloom for the Elevator’s Generator. Therefore, you can collect others to use as thrown objects against magical constructs. You can find up to four Sussar Blooms at the Sussar Tree. Additionally, two are in the small garden behind the Arcane Tower.

The best way to use Sussar Blooms against magical constructs is to use the Throw action to toss the flower close to the target. This has the primary effect of shutting down the construct with the Antimagic Field. Furthermore, it should also free up your party members to cast spells.

As you explore the Arcane Tower, it’s highly recommended that you grab both Sussar Blooms. Use one to power the generator, and this will cause the arcane cannons to power down, the arcane braziers to light, and the elevator can be used to move between floors. Take the second Sussar Bloom with you as you ascend to the top of the tower. There is a potential fight against a construct named Bernard where it may come in very handy.

FAQs about Sussur Bloom in Baldur’s Gate 3

1. Question: What is Sussur Bloom used for?

Answer:  In Baldur’s Gate 3, you can use Sussar Blooms to shut down attacking magical constructs and to power the elevator generator in the Arcane Tower basement. The antimagic field these flowers have will only work in the Underdark. Therefore, be careful not to go up to the surface while still using them.

2. Question: Does Sussur Bloom regenerate or respawn?

Answer:  Whether Sussar Blooms regenerate is up for some debate, with some players accidentally losing their blooms to the sunlight and then unable to power the generator. There does appear to be a possibility that they can respawn. However, it is unknown exactly how much time needs to pass in-game. If you no longer have access to any living Sussar Blooms you could try leaving the Underdark and wait to go back until you’ve Long Rested multiple times. However, it may be easier to load a previous save.

3. Question: How do I pick Sussur Bloom safely?

Answer:  Always use a melee class character like a Fighter or Barbarian to pick up a Sussur Bloom safely. Although they will technically receive the Sussur Antimagic Field condition, because they are physical combat classes it will not impact their ability to effectively fight.
