The Grappling Hook is your primary vertical means of vertical movement, and you must target something within range for the grappling hook to activate. Additionally, once you grapple to a target, the grappling hook will go on cooldown, and this cannot be used repeatedly outside specific grappling hooks. Therefore, look for the small reticle to indicate when your grappling hook is ready for use!

Types of Grappling Hooks

Types of Grappling Hooks - The First Descendant

There are multiple types of grappling hooks that can increase your range and max stacks or allow the ability to use mid-air. Long-Distance, Mid-Air, and Multi-Maneuvering are modified versions of the grappling hook changed via Descendant modules (mods). They can be upgraded and equipped in the module socket slot, and thus, lowering the charge time and increasing module capacity.

Here are all the types of grappling hooks in the First Descendant:

  • Long-Distance Maneuvering: modifies the grappling hook range to 25 meters. But the base change time changes to 6 seconds, and the charge time increases by 20%. Based on the enhancement level, increase max module capacity and decrease charge time increases.
  • Mid-Air Maneuvering: modifies the grappling hook to be cast mid-air. However, it can only be used once, increasing the charge time by 20%. Based on the enhancement level, increase max module capacity and decrease charge time increases.
  • Multi-Maneuvering: This modifies the Max stack of the grappling hook to 3. However, the base range decreases to 18 meters, and charge time increases by 20%. Based on the enhancement level, increase max module capacity and decreases charge time increases.

The Long-Distance Maneuvering grappling hook is best used in Void Intercept boss battles like the Devourer. This helps your range to grapple on top of weak points and destroy parts. Mid-air maneuvering is helpful as an escape tool, allowing quick travel. Lastly, Multi-Maneuvering is best for Bunny, who gains additional electricity based on her distance moves. Therefore, you can spam the grapple and increase range and damage with Lighting Emission.

Grapple Void Intercept Bosses

Molten Fortress Weak Points - The First Descendant

To grapple on top of bosses in Void Intercept battles, damage a weak point until it turns yellow. Once yellow, players can move close and grapple to leap onto the boss. Once on top, a yellow bar will appear with your stamina for holding onto the boss. You can use your button to shoot damage to the shoulder, which is shown as a red health bar above the player. You can also use your aim-down sights button to hold on, consuming less stamina but not damaging the shoulder.

This is an advanced strategy for boss fights because it delays the frenzied immunity damage. The purple bar below the health is an immunity bar called frenzy that fills up when doing non-weak point damage. If a player is on top of the boss, this will not fill up, allowing teammates to do damage. Moreover, you’ll want to break the shoulder just as your stamina runs out. If the part is broken, the boss will fall and give about five seconds of free damage. Use this time to unload every attack and make the most of the grappling weak point strategy.
