Avowed will eventually make you stand with either Mihala or Kostya. You won’t get this choice until late in the game when you are playing the Our Dreams Divide Us Still quest. In my opinion, it’s all about picking whatever option you think is the “lesser evil” of the two. While Mihala wants to undo Kostya’s entire plan and has made questionable decisions, the latter also plans on destroying Solace Keep, regardless of whether people are inside or not. Additionally, he betrayed you to Lodwyn, just as he had betrayed Mihala earlier.

Leaving Kostya Alone

If you don’t want to help Kostya but don’t wish to hurt him either, the best option in this situation is to let him be. The protagonist will tell him that they won’t stop him and then leave the scene. Solace Keep is destroyed at the hands of Kostya, and you don’t get any reward either.

We suggest that you avoid siding with Kostya because it can be the worst possible outcome in this scenario. In this instance, however, Mihala will tell you that Kostya is still out there, but the quest following this one marks the point of no return, meaning her dialogue probably doesn’t have any real significance at this stage.

You can also destroy the winch gears to help out Kostya. There are no rewards for this either, except for some gratitude from your former ally. So, if you were expecting material gain, this is not the best choice. Once again, Mihala will have the same response in this scenario, telling you that you should have put an end to Kostya’s plan instead.

Siding With Mihala

Choosing to help Mihala means that you will have to put an end to Kostya for good. He won’t go down without a fight, of course. He is pretty slow but can hit you hard, so try to avoid his attacks at all costs. Also, pay attention to the two Wardens that aid him in combat. You can easily take him out by being swift with your attacks and continuously dodging his.

After killing Kostya and his allies, you can loot him to get the Councilor’s Garb light armor and Councilor’s Shoes. If this doesn’t satisfy you, destroying the winches is still possible. However, it is pointless because that is exactly what Kostya was trying to do when he was alive.

Once you have looted the corpse of your old pal, you can raise the gates by interacting with the wheel at the front of the room. Raising the sluice gates will save Solace Keep and put an end to Kostya’s plan for good. Mihala will be happy and reward you with the Bastion of Solace Shield, which has 84 Block Efficiency, 20 Stability, 340 Parry Efficiency, and 45 Elemental Resistance.
