Best Ultimate Ajax Build Guide for The First Descendant
Ultimate Ajax is the perfect character for tackling the hardest content in the First Descendant. What makes Ultimate Ajax unique is his barrier and bubble protecting himself and his allies. Moreover, Ultimate Ajax can reflect damage back at enemies and has great crowd control and survivability. He’s an upgraded version of Ajax, a base game character. With Ultimate Ajax, you get better stats and more mod capacity, allowing you to push your build even further.
The downside to Ultimate Ajax is he has lower mobility, is mod-dependent, and has less damage. However, his survivability and group utility make up for making him one of the best Descendants in the game. With more mod capacity, you can further increase his DEF and HP, giving you unmatched survivability in Void Intercept battles. Bunny’s Exclusive Equipment
Instead of exclusive equipment, Ultimate Ajax has his ultimate equipment, the Territory Defense Specialized Battlesuit ‘Belief’.. You can access it by clicking details in the Descendant menu and customizing the appearance of his battlesuit. Below are the details on Ultimate Ajax’s Ultimate Equipment:
“The pinnacle of personal defense, the remains of this Ultimate equipment, ‘Belief’, were discovered in an Ancestors’ facility in the Agna Desert. As it stands, they reconstructed as much of it as they could based on those remains and the fragmented blueprints. However, given its overwhelming power, despite its low reproduction ratio, the Magisters speculate that the original version of this Ultimate equipment was fitted with a battlesuit that rivaled that of a Colossus. The problem is, no one knows what defeated the Ancestors who donned such powerful suits.”
Ultimate Ajax Skills
The Ultimate Ajax build centers around building up Void Energy by using skills. You have three bars, which, once filled, enhances abilities. While leveling, you will mainly use Expulsion and Void Walk for damage, then Orbit Barrier and Hypercube for survivability. In Void Intercept battles, your main objective is to hold aggro on the boss while shielding you with a wall and bubble your allies. Using three skills enhances your next, but you don’t want to run out of MP. Therefore, always keep enough to cast an Orbit Barrier when you are in trouble and need to relieve pressure. Below are the skills of Ultimate Ajax’s character:
- Orbit Barrier: Creates a shield in front of Ultimate Ajax. Durability increases proportionally to Ajax’s HP and DEF. If enhanced, reflects damage proportional to DEF to enemies hitting the barrier
- Void Walk: Leaps into the air and lands on the ground to strike nearby enemies, stunning them. If enhanced, Max Shield increases for a certain period of time.
- Expulsion: Strikes nearby enemies, knocking them back. If enhanced, the knockback range and Max Shield are increased.
- Hypercube: Creates a dome-shaped shield. Durability increases proportionally to Ultimate Ajax’s HP and DEF.If enhanced, reflects damage proportional to DEF to enemies hitting the barrier.
- Event Horizon (Passive): Acquires Void Energy after using skills. When the Void Energy reaches its maximum amount, it enhances skills and grants additional effects.
Best Skill for Ajax
Orbit Barrier is the best skill for Ultimate Ajax due to its low cooldown, damage reflection, and expandable range, providing significant utility and survivability. This skill scales with your defensive stats, making high DEF and HP crucial for Ajax. Additionally, unlike Kyle’s wall, Orbital Barrier is instanced, allowing you to place it while reviving an ally or taking a break from incoming damage.
Ajax’s unique resource system allows him to enhance skills through Void Energy and skill usage. To maximize this, use mods that reduce cooldowns so you can frequently cast skills and build energy. On Ajax’s default UI, three lines in the yellow sections indicate 33% increments of Void Energy, corresponding to singularity levels. When you reach 100%, your skill bar turns blue, granting an enhanced ability.
By using Orbital Barrier to generate Void Energy, you can then cast Hyper Cube when enhanced. The Enhanced Barrier from Hyper Cube boosts Firearm ATK and Explosive ATK within a 4-meter radius. This radius can be further expanded through mods, significantly increasing both range and cooldown, thereby enhancing damage and survivability for you and potentially your teammates.
Use Orbit Barrier defensively and as a feeder to enhance your skills. For optimal results, pair Ajax with a Non-Attribute reactor and focus on cooldown reduction, increased DEF, and skill range increase.
Orbit Barrier
Orbit Barrier Features for Ultimate Ajax in The First Descendant:
- Non-Attribute: Dimension
- Description: Creates a Barrier in front. The Barrier’s stats are affected by Ultimate Ajax’s HP and DEF. When hit by an enemy, the barrier deals Reflection Damage to the DMG received and Ajax’s DEF to the attacking enemy. Using the skill while Void Energy is at maximum increases Reflection Damage even more. After creating the Barrier, you gain Void Energy.
- Cooldown: 15 seconds
- MP Cost: 30
- HP: Caster’s HP 80%
- Effect Range: 1.7m x 2.9m
- DEF: Caster’s DEF 100%
- Duration: 10 Seconds
- Reflection Damage: DEF x 100%
- Enhanced Reflection Damage: DEF x 117%
- Void Energy Gain: Max Void Energy x 35%
Like many shield skills, use it whenever you face large groups of enemies or need to provide reliable cover for yourself and your allies. Enhance its effectiveness by deploying it when you have full Void Energy. With its low cooldown and long duration, this skill boasts high uptime, so don’t wait for the perfect moment. Deploy it as needed for cover and safety. Lastly, you can deploy the shield once enhanced to increase its strength, giving you more time to stay safe.
Void Walk
Void Walk Features for Ultimate Ajax in The First Descendant:
- Non-Attribute: Tech
- Description: Jumps forward then deals damage on landing, inflicting Stun. When using the skill whole Void Energy is at maximum, and also increases own Max Shield. When the skill ends, acquires Void Energy.

- Damage Range: 6m radius
- Stun Duration: 3 seconds
- Enhanced Leap Duration: 10 seconds

Void Walk can serve as an area-of-effect damage source or a defensive stun.
Expulsion

- Non-Attribute: Tech
- Description: Inflicts damage and Knockback on nearby enemies. When Void Energy is at maximum, increases base damage and range. When the skill ends, gains Void Energy.

- Damage Range: 4m Radius
- Enhanced Damage: Skill Power x 1,322.5%
- Enhanced Range: 6m radius
- Max Expandable Range: 300%
- Void Energy Gain: Max Void Energy x 35%
How to use Expulsion: This skill is Ajax’s highest damage ability and offers additional utility by knocking enemies back. It’s excellent for eliminating foes or keeping them away from you and your allies when health is low. Pair this with a follow-up stun for a potent crowd control combo that both knocks back and stuns enemies.
Hyper Cube
Hypercube Features for Ajax in The First Descendant:
- Non-Attribute: Dimension
- Description: Creates a dome-shaped barrier. The Barrier’s stats are based on Ajax’s HP and DEF. When Void Energy is at maximum, grants Barrier Enhancement to all allies in range, including self. Barrier Enhancement increases Firearm ATK. When the skill ends, acquires Void Energy.

- MP Cost: 50
- HP: Caster’s HP 50%
- DEF: Caster’s DEF 100%
- Duration: 10 seconds
- Effect Range: 4m radius
- Enhanced Barrier Firearm ATK Increase: 10%
- Enhanced Barrier Explosive ATK Increase: 20%
- Void Energy Gain: Max Void Energy x 35%
How to use Hypercube: Hypercube is one of the best skills in Ajax’s kit, which is why it has a long cooldown. Use it when enhanced for team damage buffs and utility. It’s ideal for boss damage phases or tackling other high-health targets. The skill provides additional survivability and security for you and your allies, and the damage boost is automatically applied when used in its enhanced state.
Event Horizon (Passive)
Event Horizon Features for Ajax in The First Descendant:
- Description: When using skills, you acquire Void Energy. Depending on the amount of Void Energy owned, you gain Singularity per stage. Singularity decreases cooldowns, and the effect is stronger at each stage. When Void Energy is at maximum, enhances the skills and grants additional effects. When using the enhanced skills, Void Energy cannot be acquired. When out of combat for 10 seconds, all Void Energy is consumed.
- Singularity Level 1:
- Void Energy: At least 30%
- Effect: 5% Cooldown Decrease
- Singularity Level 2:
- Void Energy: At least 60%
- Effect: 10% Cooldown Decrease
- Singularity Level 3:
- Void Energy: 100%
- Effect: 20% Cooldown Decrease
How to use Event Horizon: Your goal should be to consistently use your skills to maintain high singularity levels and maximize their benefits. Ensure your energy is at its peak, especially before using Hypercube skills, to guarantee that your protective dome provides a free damage boost for you and your fireteam. Unlike other passives, Event Horizon doesn’t require complex combos or skill management to be effective. Simply casting your skills will build up your levels, reducing cooldowns and enhancing your skills’ effectiveness.
How to play Ultimate Ajax in The First Descendant
To play Ultimate Ajax effectively, adopt an aggressive tank role by engaging enemies directly, drawing their attention, and allowing your allies to eliminate them. Mastering his kit involves moving around the battlefield and offering cover to your team while maintaining enemy aggression.
Ultimate Ajax has two variations of skills: the base version and the enhanced version. Build up Void Energy by using your normal skills. Once Void Energy is full, your skills become enhanced with additional effects. For instance, both shield skills gain damage reflection. Managing Void Energy efficiently is crucial; mastering this aspect unlocks Ultimate Ajax’s full potential.
Shields: Ultimate Ajax’s main strength lies in deploying shields and barriers. These shields provide cover for yourself and your allies, and when enhanced, they can reflect damage back at attackers. Ajax has two different shields: the basic Orbit Barrier, a rectangular shield wall that blocks damage from enemies on the other side, and the Hypercube shield, a massive dome that allows allies to move in and out for safety.
Unlike other characters, Ultimate Ajax focuses on controlling and restricting enemy movements rather than outright eliminating them. As content becomes more challenging and enemies have more health, this control becomes increasingly valuable, reducing the damage pressure on your team. Ajax can stun and knock back enemies, providing essential crowd control.
As a support-based crowd-controlling tank, dealing damage is not your primary role. However, you can still contribute with your weapons and skill damage. Prioritize weapons that apply debuffs to increase your team’s effectiveness. While your skills won’t clear out entire hordes, they should be used whenever possible to assist your teammates.

Best Reactor Stats for Ultimate Ajax in The First Descendant
Materialized Phase is the best reactor for an Ajax build that gives you a boost in Non-Attribute and Dimension, which aids in your Orbit Barrier and Hyper Cube. Material Phase will give you less damage but aid in defense and survivability, where you are likely to use Ultimate Ajax the most in boss battles. The secondary choice is Material Mechanic, which boosts Non-Attribuet, and Tech, which is useful for damage skills. Prioritize reactors with skill duration and skill range.
- Optimization Condition: Launcher (Sigvore’s Proof)
- Skill Power Boost Ratio: Non-Attribute and Dimension
- Bonus Conditions: Skill Duration and Skill Effect Range
In The First Descendant, reactors are powerful enhancements significantly impacting a character’s abilities, stats, and overall performance. They function as core components that provide substantial boosts and unique effects, enabling players to tailor their characters to specific playstyles and strategies.
Weapons for Ultimate Ajax Build
Tamer, Nazeistra’s Devotion, and Sigvore’s Proof are the best weapons for the Ultimate Ajax build because they provide boss killing, AOE, and single-target damage. The Tamer is the best boss weapon and is a machine gun with 100-round clips. You can lay down a wall and hold the trigger for high DPS. The Nazeistra’s Devotion is a great backup gun that debuffs DEF when hitting a weak point. Lastly, Sigvore’s Proof launcher helps with adding clarity and allows you to attach bombs to bosses and apply status effects like burning.
The following list presents the best weapon choices for Ultimate Ajax Build:
- Tamer – Machine Gun
- Nazeistra’s Devotion – Hand Cannon
- Sigvore’s Proof – Launcher

Useful because of the AOE damage it provides. You can aim down sights to stack multiple explosives, and it has a high-status effect chance. Therefore, you can inflict burning constantly, doing great damage to both single targets and AOE. Below are the recommended mods:

Recent Updates and Changes for Ultimate Ajax Build
The biggest change and update to Ultimate Ajax during Season One is the addition of Invasions and Inversion Reinforcement. While highly survivable, Ultimate Ajax is just a bit too slow to be the best choice for Invasion’s high-speed gameplay. Players are rewarded for completion time and materials used for the newest Descendant Hailey. What you should know is to work towards unlocking the Inversion and completing Invasions to progress this new piece of equipment.
Ultimate Ajax Story in the First Descendant
The Ultimate Descendant Project refers to a plan in which either the Ancestors’ technology and equipment found throughout Ingris, or their special Arche genes, are refined to suit the characteristics of active Descendants, then applied to them. The ultimate goal being to enhance all Descendants to reflect the Ancestors, the powerful predecessors of humanity.
Ajax responded enthusiastically to this Ultimate Project. Originally, the battlesuit used by Ajax was created for Void exploration, but performance-wise, it’s true it did not meet expectations. Therefore, in anticipation of the inevitable Void exploration, Ajax needed a measure of protection which could operate in a stable manner, even in uncharted environments. He had high expectations that the Ultimate equipment would be the breakthrough he had been searching for.
As if to answer Ajax’s convictions, the Ultimate equipment named “Belief” completely exceeded the Liberated Guardian’s expectations. Forged with the Ancestors’ technology, the enhanced Kuiper battlesuit covered the wearer like an impregnable fortress. Despite its bulk, the Arche reactive coil equipped on each part would pick up the user’s Arche signals, supporting movement, and even ensuring outstanding mobility. Moreover, the Magisters successfully transplanted the Void Energy, which had been absorbed into his existing battlesuit, to the Ultimate equipment, modifying it so that it could also utilize Ajax’s Arche ability. “Belief” became an equipment truly meant for Ajax in every sense.
Ajax faith in this Ultimate equipment was unwavering. With it, he would be able to conquer the Void and find Aisha. This is the unshakable belief that Ajax possesses, just like the name of this equipment.
