How To Beat Molten Fortress Boss Guide - The First Descendant

To beat the Molten Fortress boss in the First Descendant, you need a party of four to deactivate connection rods during the immunity phase. This can be done by connecting six rods by shooting a panel on each rod. However, you must avoid having the panels reset by fireballs spewing from the boss in the center. Additionally, each player must avoid Roly-Poly summons and flame pillars coming from the ground. Once all rods are connected, the boss becomes vulnerable to damage, and likely, players will have to complete this two to three times. Moreover, Molten Fortress requires four players and cannot be completed with less.

The Molten Fortress boss is resistant to fire and electric descendant attributes while weak against Chill. Therefore, you’ll want to avoid using Descendants like Blair or Bunny and select Viessa or Gley for optimal damage. Moreover, look for external component set bonuses that grant fire resistance on the third bonus or weapons that grant chill ATK attribute. The Best Weapons & Modules

The Tamer - Rare Machine Gun The First Descendant
The Best Weapons & Modules Molten Fortress - The First Descendant

The Tamer Machine Gun, Heat Antibody, and Chill Enhancement are the best weapons and modules to defeat the Molten Fortress boss. The Tamer has a 100-round magazine by default and can be optimized for weak point damage and increased magazine capacity. This is helpful when shooting down fireballs above you or during boss-burning weak point damage. Heat Antibody is a way to increase your fire resistance, and Maximize Fire Resist can also help. Lastly, the boss is weak to chill; therefore, consider putting Chill Enhancement and Chill Priority on your weapon mods for increased damage per bullet.

Below is a list of the best weapons and modules to defeat the Molten Fortress boss in the First Descendant:

  • Tamer – Machine Gun with 100-round magazine perfect for shooting down fireballs overhead or weak point damage. Take the Maximize Weight Balance rare mod to increase magazine size and weak point damage.
  • Thunder Cage – powerful weapon to destroy Roly-Poly’s or fireballs above though lower range. Look to take Expand Weapon Charge for increase rounds per magazine.
  • Vestigial Organ – helpful weapon if using Gley rocket spam from a distance.
  • Maximize Fire Resist – fires resistance +18%, Max HP -1.3%.
  • Heat Antibody – Fire Resistance +154.
  • Chill Priority – Chill ATK +13%, Reload Time Modifier -8%.
  • Chill Enhancement – Adds Chill ATK equal to 8% of Firearm ATK.

Boss Abilities, Skills & Moveset

Molten Fortress Mechanics - The First Descendant

Below is a list of the Molten Fortress bosses’ abilities, skills, and movest in the First Descendant:

  • Immunity Phase – you will see a purple bar below Shiled and health that builds up as the boss takes damage. Once the bar is full, Molten Fortress goes into immunity, requiring you to activate rods throughout the room. Face each of the six rods counterclockwise, connecting each other to deactivate the immunity phase and return to damaging the boss.
  • Roly-Poly – the small add Roly-Poly will come out and distract you by stunning and doing moderate damage. Kill them quickly and sustain ammunition in resources.
  • Flaming Pillars – stay moving constantly as exploding lava will be underneath your feet throughout the fight.
  • Connect Rods – shoot the top panel to mode the rod counterclockwise and connect to the pillar to the right. Your pillar will reset if hit by fireballs continually, so shoot them out of the sky.
  • Fireballs – expect fireballs to launch out of the boss during the immunity phase. You can shoot these down and prevent your pillar from being reset.

Molten Fortress Combat Strategy

The best strategy to destroy the Molten Fortress boss is to deal server damage initially before the immunity phase, followed by completing the connection rod deactivation to return to doing damage. You can gain extra damage time by grappling to the boss (yellow weak point) just as the light purple bar fills up. Once a player is attached, the boss will stop building the bar and the other three can do damage. Once done, or the player falls out, continue to the immunity phase and connection rods. Deactivate the connection rods by turning them, shooting the panel, avoiding lava spewing from the floor, and killing roly-polys for ammunition, MP, and health. Return to damage and complete this cycle between 2-3 times, depending on your team’s damage.

Weak Points – Opener

Molten Fortress Weak Points - The First Descendant

Pair up into two groups, focusing on the two removal parts on the boss, Core, and Armor. Once one of these points turns yellow, do not destroy it. Have a player grapple onto the yellow part before the purple bar fills up. This prevents the immunity phase and allows allies to do damage. You want your lowest DPS character, such as a tank like Ajax, to do this. Once that player is on top of the boss, you can left-click to do damage or right-click to hold on. Do not do damage, hold on with right mouse click to stay ontop of the boss as long as possible allowing your team maximun DPS.

Eventually, you’ll fall off, and the immunity phase connection rods will begin.

Connect Rods

Connection Rode Molten Fortress Boss - The First Descendant

During the immunity phase, six pillars will rise from the floor, each having a beam pointing in a random direction and a panel with blue energy bars. The panel at the top rotates the beam on the top and connects all the rods together. Your goal is to shoot the panel and face all the beams in a counter-clockwise direction (right as you face the panel). You will see meteors shooting out from the boss in the center, which can be shot down to prevent the red bars from filling up. If you do not prevent fireballs, the red bars will fill up and reset the position, forcing you to do this mechanic all overall.

The best strategy for the Connection Rods is to spread out and disregard the fireballs as you turn the beams ASAP. Depending on your luck, it may take 2-3 shots only to connect the beam; then, you can move onto another rod or shoot down fireballs for your teammates. When you turn the panel with a shot, expect two seconds before you can shoot it again. During this time, either kill Roly-Polys and fireballs or continue to move to avoid extra damage.

Roly-Poly

Roly-Poly The First Descendant

Immediately during the fight, expect Roly-polys to harass you. It’s best to assign a low DPS target (tank Ajax) to deal with them. You want to kill the Roly-poly away from the center so they aren’t covered with lava during the immunity phase. Moreover, they are key to maintaining ammunition for general rounds, which will be critical during this fight to complete the immunity phase. HP Collector is a helpful mod for Roly-Poly duty because it restores HP when killing enemies every two seconds.

Flaming Pillars

Flame Waves Molten Fortress

Lava will shoot from the ground throughout the Molten Fortress battle, so expect to move constantly to avoid damage. Staying 10-15 meters behind the pillar is best, strafing in a small semi-circle. Whatever you do, do not stand still, as the lava will likely spawn at your feet and deal significant damage.

Fireballs

Fireballs the First Descendant

During the immunity phase, the Molten Fortress boss will shoot out fireballs from its center. The easiest way to deal with this is shooting the balls immediately as they spawn when they are condensed close. Moreover, the Thunder Cage can explode the balls, killing multiple people at once. The Tamer is also useful here to simply hold down the trigger and destroy the fireballs before they get far. Consider doing this for your allies if your panels are completed to prevent resets.

Molten Fortress Builds and Group Composition

Molten Fortress Builds and Group Composition

The best group composition for the Molten Fortress is three Ultimate Gley’s and one Ultimate Ajax Build. Ultimate Gley produces the most damage out of all the Descendants currently and can take huge damage without going down. Since she doesn’t use shields, Gley players can reach 20,000 health and kill Roly-Poly to restore health.

Ultimate Ajax is helpful as the tank and grappling character on weak points. With Overwhelming HP, and HP Collector (if you can fit it), you can restore HP and have 20,000 health by killing Roly-Poly. Your Ajax player wants to HyperCube the Gley’s at the start for the greatest possible damage, then take care of adds, grappling on the boss, and fireball duty.

An alternative DPS character would be Ultimate Viessa, who deals with chill damage, which Molten Fortress is weak in.
