Within The First Descendant, there are over one hundred different materials to collect. These resources are used to craft and collect the numerous ultimate weapons and Descendant parts. One of the resources, Void Shards, is used to start overland miniboss fights that can drop Transcendent modules, weapons, and other gear. Once the boss is dead, a reconstruction device will spawn allowing you to decode amorphous materials for craftable parts.

What are Void Shards in The First Descendant?

In The First Descendant, Void Shards are one of many resources needed to start Void Reactor fights. You can obtain this valuable resource by destroying Void Fragments. Also, you need a combination of two types of Void Shards to start these boss encounters and use the reconstruction device afterward.

Void Shards - The First Descendant

There isn’t just one kind of Void Shard, there are four different kinds that you have to farm for at various Void Fragment locations to obtain them. Below are the four kinds of Void Shards:

  • Polymer Void Shard
  • Organic Void Shard
  • Monomer Void Shard
  • Inorganic Void Shard

Depending upon the Void Reactor, you will need two different void shards to start the fight. Each reactor requires different void shards in different quantities, so you will likely need to farm multiple void fragments to have the necessary starting materials.

Best Void Shard Farm Locations

The best places to get Void Shards in The First Descendant are the Void Fragments located in the Fallen Ark, Frozen Valley, Dune Base, and Shipment Base Outpost. You can find these Void Fragments in every map location but they require a specific element to damage them. So you must take a Descendant that deals damage in that specific element to weaken and ultimately break the fragment to gain the shards.

Void Fragments drop at least two different types and different quantities of Void Shards upon completing destroying one. Also, Void Fragments don’t just award Void Shards but multiple other loot items including modules, weapons, and reactors. Lastly, you should complete Void Fragments on Hard Difficulty as it increases the amount of shards obtained from a single completion.

Best Polymer Void Shard Location

The best Polymer Void Shard Farm Location is in the fragment found on the Fortress Map in the Frozen Valley zone. Also, this fragment requires you to have Chill damage and awards a large amount of Polymer shards and a small amount of Organic shards. So you should bring Viessa or Ultimate Viessa which deals Chill damage to destroy the fragment.

The best Organic Void Shard Farm Location is in the fragment found on the Hagios Map in the Dune Base zone. Also, this fragment requires you to have Fire damage and awards a large amount of Organic shards and a small amount of Monomer shards. So you should bring Esiemo, Blair, or Lepic which deals Fire damage to destroy the fragment.

Also, this fragment requires you to have Electric damage and awards a large amount of Monomer shards and a small amount of Inorganic shards. So you should bring Bunny or Ultimate Bunny which deals Electric damage to destroy the fragment.

Also, this fragment requires Toxic damage and awards a large amount of Inorganic shards and a small amount of Organic shards. So you should bring Freyna who deals Toxic damage to destroy the fragment.

Alternative Void Shard Farm Sources

The best alternative Void Shard locations are Special Operation and Non-Attribute Void Fragments. Special Operations are group wave-based activities in which you work together with allies to gain rewards. Randomly during the activity, Void Shards will drop on the group for you to collect. Also, Non-Attribute Void Fragments work like elemental-based ones, however, they reward all Void Shard types at reduced overall rates.

Alternative Void Shard Locations - The First Descendant

These alternative locations provide reduced Void Shards and you should not use them to farm large amounts quickly. Since Special Operations get random drops of Void Shards they are good to passively collect them while completing the activity for rewards or experience. Also, Non-Attribute Void Fragments function like other Void Fragments which require Non-Attribute damage to weaken and destroy. However, they differ by providing all four types of Void Shards but in reduced quantities. This makes farming them non-optimal since you can get larger quantities by farming elemental-specific types.
