Will Baldur’s Gate 3 release on Xbox?
In early 2023 developer Larian Studios made an announcement of an official release date for Baldur’s Gate 3. It will release on August 31, 2023 for PC/Mac and Playstation 5 players. But Xbox was conspicuously missing from that list of platforms. So will Baldur’s Gate 3 be on Xbox?
Larian Studios later clarified their release date announcement by saying that while there was no official release date for the Microsoft console, they were definitely working on an Xbox version. Apparently, the developers have struggled to get splitscreen co-op working on the Xbox Series X|S, thus causing them to delay an official announcement.
We’ve had an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 in development for some time now. We’ve run into some technical issues in developing the Xbox port that have stopped us feeling 100% confident in announcing it until we’re certain we’ve found the right solutions

Larian Studios went on to further say that there is no platform exclusivity preventing them from releasing Baldur’s Gate 3 on any other platform or console. At the moment, their considerations are only technical.
While this news is certainly disappointing for Xbox gamers, given the recent issues some games have had at launch it’s also reassuring that the developers at Larian Studios are willing to take the time and care necessary to make sure their games run as intended for all players.
