What Are Elixirs in Baldur’s Gate 3
Elixirs are single-use consumables in Baldur’s Gate 3 and differ from potions because their effects will last until your next Long Rest. Moreover, elixirs can provide your character with one of a wide variety of boons, including boosts to your Strength ability score, the restoration of a spell slot, or a type of elemental resistance.
Additionally, you can only have one elixir active at a time. Therefore, if you drink a second elixir, that second effect will replace the first. You cannot ‘stack’ elixirs. However, you can have an elixir and potion active simultaneously.
Furthermore, if you are in combat when you decide to use a consumable such as an elixir, it will require using a Bonus Action. In Baldur’s Gate 3, every party member gets at least one Action and one Bonus Action on their turn. Bonus Actions are typically for ‘smaller’ movements such as Dash, Hide, and to use consumable items.
All Elixirs and How to Get Them in Baldur’s Gate 3
You can get elixirs by crafting them through the Alchemy system in Baldur’s Gate 3, by purchasing them from merchants, and sometimes by looting them from bodies, chests, and tabletops.
To access the Alchemy system in Baldur’s Gate 3 you can click the ‘H’ key on PC, or pull the Right trigger and choose the potion icon on your console controller. Elixirs will be one of four available consumables you can craft. Next, at the bottom will be six different types of extracts: Sublimates, Salts, Essences, Ashes, Vitriols, and Suspensions.
Furthermore, extracts are created when you take three of the same ingredients and refine them into a more potent substance. You can do this manually by clicking each type of extract in the menu, or simply clicking the ‘Extract All Ingredients’ button down at the bottom. Additionally, when you extract ingredients for the first time, you will unlock crafting recipes associated with the ingredients.
Finally, you can select Elixirs from the menu and see all your available recipes, which can be crafted with ingredients you have on hand. All craftable elixirs in Baldur’s Gate 3 will require two types of ingredients. Usually, a physical component is mixed together with a liquid solution.
Elixir of Arcane Cultivation
- Effect: Gain an additional Level 1 spell slot.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Weavemoss through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Vitriol of Weavemoss (combine three Weavemoss) and any Sublimate
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: No.
The Elixir of Arcane Cultivation in Baldur’s Gate 3 is an easy way for your spellcaster to recover a needed Level 1 spell slot. Consequently, this elixir can be very handy in the early game, when spell slots are in short supply. However, it does become mostly unnecessary by the end game, when you’ll be primarily focusing on more powerful spells.
Furthermore, this can be crafted with a fairly easy-to-find weavemoss ingredient. Moreover, it can also be purchased from Arron in the Emerald Grove right at the start of the game.
Greater Elixir of Arcane Cultivation
- Effect: Gain an additional Level 2 spell slot
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Laculite through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Suspension of Laculite (combine three Laculite) and any Vitriol.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Greater Elixir of Arcane Cultivation is a slightly better version of the previous elixir, which will allow you to gain an additional Level 2 spell slot. The Laculite you need to craft this elixir can be found along the beach by the Decrepit Village in the Underdark during Act 1.
Furthermore, when using this elixir be careful that you don’t consume another elixir before using at least one Level 2 spell slot. Otherwise, you will lose the benefit of it. However, so long as you expend at least one Level 2 slot after drinking the Greater Elixir of Arcane Cultivation, then you can consume another elixir without penalty.
Superior Elixir of Arcane Cultivation
- Effect: Gain an additional Level 3 spell slot.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Night Orchid through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Solution of Night Orchid (combine three Night Orchid) and any Vitriol.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops, starting at Level 6.
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Superior Elixir of Arcane Cultivation will give your spellcaster an additional Level 3 spell slot to use. However, this elixir won’t be available until later in the game, and cannot be found at merchants until you reach Level 6. Additionally, the Night Orchids you need to craft this elixir through Alchemy can’t be found until you reach the Ruined Battlefield in the Shadow-Cursed Lands of Act 2.
Functionally, this behaves much the same as the other Arcane Cultivation elixirs. They cannot be stacked, but you can drink one, and use the relevant spell slot. Then, drink the second elixir and gain that new spell slot. Therefore, these elixirs can be used one after the other, if done right.
Supreme Elixir of Arcane Cultivation
- Effect: Gain an additional Level 4 spell slot.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Beholder Iris through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Essence of Beholder Eye (combine three Beholder Iris) and any Suspension.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops, starting at Level 9.
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Supreme Elixir of Arcane Cultivation is the final consumable of its kind in Baldur’s Gate 3, and it will grant you an additional Level 4 spell slot. Crafting this high-level elixir will require at least three Beholder Iris. Furthermore, you can only get this ingredient by defeating Spectators or purchasing from Mystic Carrion in Act 3. Additionally, it may be available from some merchants and traders, but will only appear in inventories after you have hit Level 9.
Although your spellcasters will gain additional Level 5 and Level 6 spellslots, these will be in very limited quantities. Therefore, Level 4 spells slots are still very useful in the end game.
Elixir of Barkskin
- Effect: Drink to increase your Armour Class to 16.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Wood Bark through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Salts of Tree Bark (combine three Wood Bark) and any Suspension.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: Yes
The Elixir of Barkskin in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a fantastic way for spellcasters wearing robes and clothing to boost their Armour Class up to 16. Additionally, it’s available early on in the game, which can be incredibly helpful because Sorcerers, Wizards, and Druids can be quite squishy in early levels.
Furthermore, as with all other elixirs, it will last until your next Long Rest. Therefore, the best way to use the Elixir of Barkskin would be to have your spellcaster drink it immediately after waking up at camp. Then their AC would be boosted to 16 in preparation for any coming battles you may encounter.
Elixir of Battlemage’s Power
- Effect: Drink to increase the effectiveness of your spells. You will gain 3 Arcane Acuity.
- Arcane Acuity grants a +1 bonus to its spell Attack rolls and spell save DC for each remaining turn.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Gauth Eyestalk through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Suspension of Gauth Eye (combine three Gauth Eyestalk) and any Sublimate.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops, starting at Level 9.
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Elixir of Battlemage’s power is another late-game elixir that can strengthen both the offense and defense of your spellcasters by granting you 3 Arcane Acuity. Normally, Arcane Acuity is a condition you can only maintain for a limited amount of turns. However, with the Elixir of Battlemage’s power, the 3 stacks of Arcane Acuity will last until your next Long Rest.
Consequently, this elixir won’t be available through any merchants until you reach Level 9. Additionally, if you wish to craft this elixir, you can only find one Gauth Eyestalk in Balthazar’s Rooms at Moonrise Towers in Act 2. No more will appear until Act 3, sold by Popper at the Circus of the Last Days and Blurg in the Lower City.
Elixir of Bloodlust
- Effect: Once per turn when you skill a foe, you gain 5 temporary hit points and an additional action.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Worg Fang through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Ashes of Worg Fang (combine three Worg Fang) and any Salt.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Elixir of Bloodlust is one of the best elixirs in Baldur’s Gate 3 because it’s a fantastic way to gain an extra Action in combat and additional health. Combat in Baldur’s Gate 3 is all about the number of actions you can take. Fighters excel at this, because they can gain Action Surge at Level and Extra Attack at Level 5. However, any class can use the Elixir of Bloodlust to gain a similar boost. However, the effect is only triggered when you kill a foe. Therefore, you’ll have to be strategic about your attacks to make the most out of this elixir.
Thankfully, Worg Fang ingredients are available in the game fairly early on throughout Act 2, so make sure you pick up any you can find. Additionally, you can also find them for sale at certain traders, including Derryth Bonecloak at the Myconid Colony in the Underdark.
Elixir of Cloud Giant Strength
- Effect: Increase a creature’s Strength to 27
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Cloud Giant Finger through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Salts of Cloud Giant Fingernails (combine three Cloud Giant Finger) and any Suspension.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops, starting at Level 9.
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Elixir of Cloud Giant Strength is a way to boost the Strength of melee builds like Fighters and Barbarians far beyond what you can accomplish with ability score points alone. Additionally, after drinking one you can respec your character with Withers, and place some of the valuable points in other categories. Therefore, this elixir will also double as a boost to agility (Dexterity) or durability (Constitution).
Consequently, this high-level elixir won’t start to appear in merchant inventories until you reach Level 9. None can be found in Act 1, and only a few vendors like Quartermaster Tali and Roah Moonglow may have it in stock when you reach the required level.
Elixir of Cold Resistance
- Effect:
- How to Learn the Recipe: Cannot be crafted through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Cannot be crafted through Alchemy
- How to Get: Only one can be found on a table in Sourcerous Sundries, Act 3
- Can it be Thrown: Yes
The Elixir of Cold Resistance is one of the must unique elixirs in Baldur’s Gate 3, not because of it’s effects, but because of its rarity. There is only one bottle of this in the entire game, and it can be found on a table to the left inside Sourcerous Sundries during Act 3. Furthermore, you cannot craft it through the Alchemy system either.
Drinking this consumable will grant you resistance to Cold damage, which often comes from spells such as Ice Knife, Ice Storm, Wall of Ice, and Hunger of Hadar.
Elixir of the Colossus
- Effect: Drink to increase your size. Weapons deal an additional 1d4 damage. You gain Advantage n Strength checks and saves.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Chasm Creeper through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Salts of Chasm Creeper (combine three Chasm Creeper) and any Suspension.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: No
Using the Elixir of the Colossus physically enlarges your character and their equipment so that they can deal more damage. Moreover, you will gain Advantage on all Strength checks and saves while this condition lasts. Like nearly all other elixirs, you can drink it right after waking up at camp and it will remain active until the next Long Rest. However, keep in mind that the larger size may make it hard for that character to follow the party around or get through small spaces.
You can buy the Elixir of the Colossus from merchants in Baldur’s Gate 3, but you can also craft it using Chasm Creepers. These can be found throughout the Underdark in Act 1, and are easy to spot because they emit a bright purple glow.
Elixir of Darkvision
- Effect: Drink to gain the ability to see in the dark up to 12 meters.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Crystalline Lens through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Essence of Crystalline Lens (combine three Crystalline Lens) and any Salt.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Elixir of Darkvision will allow any character who drinks it the ability to see in the dark up to 12 meters. This can be helpful in certain crypts, tombs, and other underground areas of the game. However, Darkvision is already available to certain races and classes in the game. These include Dwarf, Elf, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Forest Gnome, Rock Gnome, Tiefling, and Druid, Ranger, Sorcerer, Wizard.
Therefore, depending on the composition of your group, you may or may not find this elixir useful.
Elixir of Fire Resistance
- Effect: You gain Resistance to Fire damage, and can no longer Burn.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Dragon Egg Mushroom through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Ashes of Dragon Egg Mushroom (combine three Dragon Egg Mushroom) and any Salt.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: Yes
The Elixir of Fire Resistance is one of the more useful resistance elixirs in Baldur’s Gate 3, given the prevalent amount of Fire damage that can be encountered. Not only will it grant you resistance to all Fire damage, but it will protect you from Burn. Burn is a damage-over-time condition where you will take an additional 1-4 Fire damage each turn until you are Helped or gain Wet.
This elixir is available from merchants very early on in the game. Moreover, the core ingredient of Dragon Egg Mushrooms are found throughout the Act 1 map and even in the later game.
Elixir of Guileful Movement
- Effect: Your movement speed can be reduced by Difficult Terrain or spells. You can be Paralysed or Restrained.

- How to Craft: Suspension of Ochre Jelly (combine three Ochre Jelly Slime) and any Sublimate.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops, starting at Level 6.
- Can it be Thrown: No
When you consume the Elixir of Guileful Movement you will receive the exact same benefits as Freedom of Movement condition. Under its effects your movement speed cannot be slowed by Difficult Terrain, spells, or magical effects. Additionally, you can’t be Paralysed or Restrained.
You’ll likely be into Act 2 before you can acquire this elixir, however, as merchants won’t have it in their inventories until you reach Level 6. However, if you want to craft it you can pick up Ochre Jelly Slime by killing several Orchre Jelly enemies within the Grymforge.
Elixir of Heroism
- Effect: Gain 10 temporary hit points and become Blessed.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Pegasus Feather through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Sublimate of Pegasus Feathers (combine three Pegasus Feather) and any Ashes.
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Elixir of Heroism is another one that is available early on in Act 1, and drinking it will not only grant you 10 temporary hit points but you will also become Blessed. The Blessed condition can also come from a Cleric spell, and the effects from the elixir are the same. With it, you gain a +1d4 bonus to Attack rolls and Saving throws.
This is another elixir that can be very helpful in the early game if your party is struggling in battle. Drink an Elixir of Heroism at the start of the day, and the resulting bonus to attack rolls and saving throws will remain active throughout any combat you encounter until your next Long Rest.
Elixir of Hill Giant Strength
- Effect: Increase your Strength to 21.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Hill Giant Fingers through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Salts of Hill Giant Fingernails (combine three Hill Giant Fingers) and any Suspension
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: Yes, but then it will only last for 10 turns
The Elixir of Hill Giant Strength is one of the best elixirs you can find in Baldur’s Gate 3 and you should be on the lookout for it starting out in Act 1. Anytime you visit a vendor, particularly Auntie Ethel, Derryth Bonecloak, Quartermaster Tali, Mattis, and many others, always check to see if there is one for sale.
Drinking the Elixir of Hill Giant Strength will increase your Strength ability score to 21. This is a less powerful version of the Elixir of Cloud Giant Strength, but that doesn’t mean you should wait around until you can find the other. Collect these and use them on your Fighter and Barbarian characters when you come up to a challenging fight.
Elixir of Lightning Resistance
- Effect: You gain Resistance to Lightning damage and can no longer be Shocked., Electrocuted, Jolted, or otherwise affected by lightning.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Broken Machinery through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Salts of Copper Shavings (combine three Broken Machinery) and any Suspension
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: Yes
The Elixir of Lightning Resistance will protect you from all possible conditions inflicted by Lightning damage, including Shocked, Electrocuted, and Jolted. We highly recommend that you hang onto this elixir until Act 3. There is a fight at the end of the Wyrmway Trials that one (or more) of these elixirs will be especially useful for.
It can appear in merchant inventories, but in personal experience, this appears to happen rarely. Therefore, to find the Broken Machinery you need to craft the Elixir of Lightning Resistance, you’ll need to search the Arcane Tower in the Underdark. Most pieces are found in containers on the entry floor, while the final five pieces can be found on the top floor.
Elixir of Necrotic Resistance
- Effect: Gain Resistance to Necrotic damage.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Black Oleander through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Vitriol of Oleander (combine three Black Oleander) and any Sublimate
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops, starting at Level 6.
- Can it be Thrown: Yes
The Elixir of Necrotic Resistance is another consumable in Baldur’s Gate 3 that will grant you a resistance to a specific damage type. Necrotic damage is actually a fairly regular occurrence in the game, and you should try to keep a couple on hand if you can.
You can first find Black Oleander starting in the Shadow-Cursed Lands of Act 2. These flowers are described as ‘Oft planted near graveyards and gifted to the sickest of patients’. Therefore, check out the graveyard north of Reithwin Town near the House of Healing.
Elixir of Peerless Focus
- Effect: Drink to gain Advantage on Concentration saves, and against being Charmed. Magic can’t put you to sleep.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Belladonna through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Sublimate of Belladonna (combine three Belladonna) and any Ashes
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Elixir of Peerless Focus might not seem as effective as some of the other consumables, but it can be a benefit to characters whose classes have a lot of Concentration spells. Cleric stands out as one major example, with strong spells like Spirit Guardians that require you to keep Concentration.
Drinking the Elixir of Peerless Focus will give you Advantage on all Concentration saves. Moreover, it will protect you some certain magical conditions such as Charmed or Sleep. This is an elixir that you should be able to find at traders in the early game, and the Belladonna flower can be found throughout the Act 1 map.
Elixir of Poison Resistance
- Effect: You gain Resistance to Poison damage and can no longer be Poisoned.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Mud Mephit Wing through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Suspension of Muddy Goo (combine three Mud Mephit Wing) and any Sublimate
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: Yes
Poison in another type of damage in Baldur’s Gate 3 that can really deal some cumulative damage over time if you get Poisoned. The Elixir of Poison Resistance will protect you from that condition, but half the amount of poison damage you are hit with.
Mud Mephit Wings aren’t easy to come back, although you can find some at the very south of the Sunlit Wetlands during Act 1. You’re more likely to find the ingredients, or the elixir itself, in trader inventories to purchase directly.
Elixir of Psychic Resistance
- Effect: Gain Resistance to Psychic damage.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Intellect Devourer Cerebellum through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Suspension of Cerebrospinal Fluid (combine three Intellect Devourer Cerebellum) and any Sublimate
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops, starting at Level 9.
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Elixir of Psychic Resistance will cut in half any amount of psychic damage that is thrown your way. You can not purchase this elixir from vendors until you’ve reached Level 9. However, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to collect the Intellect Devourer Cerebellum because they drop from the small Intellect Devourer ‘brain creatures’ you fight right at the start of the prologue.
Therefore, sure to pick them up anytime you can loot them. If you can craft this elixir early, then it might make the events at Crèche Y’llek a little easier. Additionally, this will be an elixir to buy in the late game, too, especially during the final assault on High Hall. There will be plenty of Illithids to fight on your way to the Absolute and they have powerful Psychic abilities you can protect yourself from.
Elixir of Radiant Resistance
- Effect: Gain Resistance to Radiant damage.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Cannot be crafted through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Cannot be crafted through Alchemy
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops, starting at Level 9.
- Can it be Thrown: Yes
The Elixir of Radiant Resistance will protect you from receiving half of any Radiant type of damage an enemy tries to hit you with. Unfortunately, this elixir cannot be crafted through Alchemy. Furthermore, you cannot purchase it until you have reached Level 9.
Therefore, you are unlikely to find the Elixir of Radiant Resistance until you reach Act 3. You can then visit Traveller Griska in Fraygo’s Flophouse or find Bonecloak’s Apothecary right across from Sorcerous Sundries in the Lower City.
Elixir of See Invisibility
- Effect: Drink the elixir to spot Invisible creatures.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Nothic Eye through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Suspension of Nothic Eye (combine three Nothic Eye) and any Vitriol
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops, starting at Level 6.
- Can it be Thrown: No
There are lots of battles in Act 3 with assassins and cultists where it can seem like they all just constantly go Invisible. Attacking and finishing out these types of fights can be frustrating without a way to reveal your opponent. Thankfully, the Elixir of See Invisibility will allow you to see Invisible creatures within 9 meters. However, this isn’t a guarantee because your opponent must succeed in a Dexterity Saving throw or lose their Invisibility.
This is another elixir that won’t be available at vendors until you reach Level 6. Until then, you can collect Nothic Eyes from defeated enemies.
Elixir of Universal Resistance
- Effect: Gain Resistance to all damage
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Divine Bone Shard through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Vitriol of Divine Miasma (combine three Divine Bone Shard) and any Sublimate.
- How to Get: Sometimes found in the inventory of Vicar Humbletoes at the Stormshore Tabernacle
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Elixir of Universal Resistance is a powerful consumable that grants you resistance to all types of damage. However, although it is called an elixir, it does not behave the same as the others. Instead of lasting until your next Long Rest, the Elixir of Universal Resistance only lasts for 10 turns. Therefore, it’s best for you to save this elixir until you are in a tough battle and need this incredibly powerful protection. We recommend using it if you are struggling with the right against Raphael in the House of Hope, or save it for the final battle against the Absolute.
The only merchant who will have the elixir in their inventory is Vicar Humbletoes at the Stormshore Tabernacle. Furthermore, you can also craft it by collecting Divine Bone Shards. These precious ingredients only appear at two points in the game. First, when you enter the Astral Prism while at Crèche Y’llek. Secondly, at the very beginning of Act 3 when you are ambushed by Githyanki.
Elixir of Viciousness
- Effect: The number you need to roll to land a Critical Hit is reduced by 1.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Shadowroot Sac through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Vitriol of Shadowroot Sac (combine three Shadowroot Sac) and any Ashes
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops, starting at Level 6.
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Elixir of Viciousness is a perfect consumable to use on your Rogue or Ranger build because it reduces the number you need to roll for a Critical Hit by 1. Furthermore, you can stack this effect with other items in the game. The Bloodthirst dagger, The Dead Shot longbow, Sarevok’s Horned Helmet, and the Shade-Slayer Cloak can all offer a similar decrease.
You won’t find this elixir at traders until you reach Level 6, but you can start to collect that Shadowroot Sacs immediately upon entering the Shadow-Cursed Lands in Act 2.
Elixir of Vigilance
- Effect: Drink to gain a +5 bonus to Initiative. In addition, you can’t be Surprised.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Hook through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Sublimate of Bloodstained Hook (combine three Hook) and any Ashes
- How to Get: Also included in the inventory of some general merchants and apothecary shops
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Elixir of Vigilance can help you out with combat in the early game, and the effects of it mimic the Alert feat. Since you can’t gain your first feat until Level 4 for most classes, the Elixir of Vigilance can act in place of it until you can choose it. Having this elixir active on at least of your party members can keep you from being surprised and losing an entire round of combat for your entire party.
Thankfully, this elixir is available in the early game. Therefore, you should be able to find it in trader inventories while you are on the lookout for Hooks as you adventure through Act 1.
Tadpole Elixir
- Effect: Gain Psionic Weakening and Psionic Enrichment.
- How to Learn the Recipe: Extract three Tongue of Madness through Alchemy
- How to Craft: Sublimate of Tongue of Madness (combine three Tongue of Madness) and any Essence
- How to Get: Does not appear to be available at traders, can only be crafted
- Can it be Thrown: No
The Tadpole Elixir is a high-risk, high-reward consumable and likely not something you’ll want to use often in Baldur’s Gate 3. When you drink it you will gain two simultaneous conditions: Psionic Enrichement and Psionic Weakening. Psionic Enrichement is give you Advantage on all attacks you make for the next three rounds. However, Psionic Weakening will give you Disadvantage on Constitution, Wisdom, and Intelligence Saving throws. Furthermore, this weakening will last until your next Long Rest.
Therefore, this is not an elixir you will want to use often. To even receive the Psionic Enrichment your character will have to have consumed at least one tadpole and gained an Illithid Power. Otherwise, you will only receive the weakening, and not the bonus. It’s highly recommended that you only use this as a powerful burst at the end of a difficult fight, and that you take a Long Rest immediately after victory.
