Obsidian’s Avowed is a game that puts great emphasis on narrative, allowing players and their choices to dictate the path of the story and decide how it unfolds. It is this great emphasis on narrative that often leads players to underestimate the importance of combat and the right build. Players often take combat for granted, and the game then takes advantage of this by throwing difficult bosses as a skill check. None of these bosses hit quite like Thalla the Taskmaster, however.

While the boss is slow with his attacks, the damage he deals can cause a lot of players to second-guess their strategies. How To Defeat Thalla the Taskmaster
The first thing you’ll notice once the bossfight kicks off is that Thalla the Taskmaster is slow as a snail, both in his movements and attacks. But while this may entice you into quickly closing the distance and slashing away, do not that yet. You need to know his moveset before you begin attacking.
Thalla uses several AOE attacks to punish players who get careless. The first of these attacks is a stomp with a slow charge-up time, marked by a red circle to indicate the area of effect. The second AOE attack is a club pound. Thalla lifts his club and smashes the ground, sending a shockwave along the floor.
This attack is a little faster, so keep track of his hands to watch his movements. The moment he begins to lift the weapon, bail, and exit the AOE.
Escape the AOE attacks too many times or stray too far from Thalla, and he will scoop up debris and toss it at you. This attack, too, has a slow charge-up time, so watch for the animation and be prepared to dodge.
The trick to beating Thalla is to juggle the distance between you and Thalla appropriately. Run in to deal damage, and then run back out before he uses his AOE. Right after the AOE attacks, he takes a few seconds to charge back up. Use this window to deal more damage. Never stay too far for too long or you will risk attracting his ranged attacks. Juggle the distance carefully and chip away at his HP to win the fight.
