How to Unlock Giatta in Avowed

How to Unlock Giatta in Avowed

You won’t be able to find or meet Giatta until you reach the city of Fior Mes Inverno, the main population center in the second region of Emerald Stair. You should be following the main quest, which sends you back to meet the Governor at the Vidarro Family Mansion in the north.

Unfortunately for Giatta, she has caused some trouble and is in the midst of being exiled. You can offer her a place with you, and she’ll be interested, but won’t join yet. First, you’ll need to follow the steps in a quest called the Animancy Method. This will require you to find some of Giatta’s colleagues. They are scattered across Emerald Stair. but they should be marked with quest markers on your map.

Complete these tasks, and then return to speak with Giatta at her home. She will send you down into her basement, where you’ll discover the fate of her parents. Finally, return to speak with Giatta one last time and she will finally join your party.

Giatta Permanent Bonuses with Training

Giatta Permanent Bonuses - Training intellect and resolve attributes

Your companions in Avowed can not only travel with you but can offer training that boosts certain attributes. You unlock these trainings by speaking regularly with your companions. Ask them about themselves, your current location, missions, etc. Some are harder to trigger than others (Kai’s happens very quickly).

In our playthroughs, it took nearly all of the game before Giatta offered her training in the fourth region of Galawain’s Tusks. Here are the dialogue options and the attributes they increase in Giatta’s training:

  • +2 Intellect: Tell me how an animancer sharpens their mind to decipher the spiritual world.
  • +2 Resolve: I want to learn about how you stand up for yourself with an ironclad will.
  • +1 Intellect, +1 Resolve: Whatever you want to teach me. I leave it in your hands.

Best Abilities, Skills, and Passives for Giatta

Purification and Acceleration are the best active abilities for our Giatta companion build guide in Avowed. Purification is hands-down the best healing ability in the game. Consequently, if you are struggling with survivability in the game bringing Giatta along is essential. Barrier can be helpful in that situation, as well, but the speed buff from Acceleration is stronger. Especially when upgraded, this ability can also grant damage and cooldown reduction.

Furthermore, you can upgrade these skills to increase their damage and effectiveness in battle.

  • Purification (Active): Giatta calls forth an invigorating wave of energy that heals allies by 25% of their maximum health.
  • Barrier (Active): Giatta grants all allies a shield that provides Temporary Health for 20 seconds.
  • Acceleration (Active): Giatta increases the Move Speed and Attack Speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
  • Reconstruction (Passive): Giatta’s attacks heal all allies by a small amount.

Purification

Avowed Giatta active ability Purification tooltip

Purification is an active ability that Giatta can use to heal all of her party allies. This active ability is the best heal in the game, aside from potion consumables. It will restore 25% of everyone’s health, but the radius limit of the cast is unfortunately not clear. Furthermore, the Purification ability has a 60-second cooldown before you can use it again.

The best way to use the Purification ability is to trigger it when you are under a lot of pressure in a fight against a strong boss enemy. This burst heal can really help save you and your allies in a difficult fight when a boss is hammering on your health pool.

Here are the three passive upgrades available for Giatta’s Purification ability, which you can unlock with additional skill points:

  • Boosted Essence: Purification heals allies by 50% of their maximum health.
  • Essence Pressure: Enemies within the range of Purification are interrupted and knocked back.
  • Essence Shielding: Increases Damage Reduction of allies by 20% for 15 seconds.

We highly recommend spending a skill point to unlock Essence Shielding, which will boost the Damage Reduction of your party by 20% for 15 seconds. This is a great buff that can stack with other sources of Damage Reduction like Arcane Veil or Magran’s Blessing. Additionally, Boosted Essence is a great survivability boost that is worth putting a skill point into.

Barrier

Avowed Giatta active ability Barrier tooltip

Barrier is an active ability that Giatta can use to create a shield over all her allies that provides them with Temporary Health for 20 seconds. The cooldown on this ability is 75 seconds before you can recast it. This temporary health is also something that can be stacked with Damage Reduction to greatly increase your survivability.

Here are the three passive upgrades available for Giatta’s Barrier ability, which you can unlock with additional skill points:

  • Greater Barrier: Increases the amount of Temporary Health granted by Barrier.
  • Medic Shielding: When Barrier ends, allies are healed in proportion to the amount of Temporary Health remaining.
  • Impenetrable: While Barrier is active, Giatta cannot be hit and knocks melee attackers back.

The best upgrade is Greater Barrier because the overall boost to the amount of temporary health you receive makes this ability much stronger.

Acceleration

Avowed Giatta active ability Acceleration tooltip

Acceleration is an active ability that Giatta can use to increase the party’s movement speed and attack speed for 15 seconds. The downside to this ability is that it has a long 80-second cooldown. However, it’s still an excellent party buff that increases everyone’s mobility, which can be crucial in fights where you can get bogged down by multiple enemies.

Here are the three passive upgrades available for Giatt’s Acceleration ability, which you can unlock with additional skill points:

  • Evade Attacks: Allies empowered by Acceleration use their speed to gain 15% Damage Reduction.
  • Extended Acceleration: Increases the duration of Acceleration by 10 seconds.
  • Time Shift: Any abilities activated while Acceleration is active will have their cooldowns reduced by 50%.

We highly recommend spending a skill point to unlock Evade Attacks, which will increase the Damage Reduction of all allies by 15%. As we’ve mentioned before, Damage Reduction is stackable. Therefore, the more sources that grant a percentage of Damage Reduction, the less and less damage you will take from enemy hits.

Reconstruction

Avowed Giatta passive ability Reconstuction tooltip

Reconstruction is Giatta’s passive, which causes all party allies to receive a small amount of healing any time Giatta completes an attack. The baseline of this passive isn’t super strong, but it can be one helpful source of passive healing that will stack with others.

Here are the three upgrades available for Giatta’s Reconstruction passive, which you can unlock with additional skill points:

  • Critical Restore: Reconstruction increases the healing granted to allies below 20% health.
  • Overcharge: Reconstruction grants Temporary Health to allies that are already at maximum health.
  • Revitalize: Reconstruction revives Incapacitated allies when Giatta kills an enemy.

We highly recommend spending a skill point to unlock Overcharge, which will mean that the passive healing from Reconstruction will not go to waste on allies at full health.

Level Progression for Giatta in Avowed

Here’s a list of skills, passives, and upgrades to select with the Best Giatta Build in Avowed:

  • Skill Point 1: Barrier
  • Skill Point 2: Acceleration
  • Skill Point 3: Reconstruction
  • Skill Point 4: Essence Shielding (Purification upgrade)
  • Skill Point 5: Greater Barrier (Barrier upgrade)
  • Skill Point 6: Evade Attacks (Acceleration upgrade)
  • Skill Point 7: Overcharge (Reconstruction upgrade)
  • Skill Point 8: Extended Acceleration (Acceleration upgrade)

In Avowed, your companions will earn skill points as you level. However, they don’t always match up with your leveling progression. Therefore, expect to receive fewer skill points for Giatta. For example, when your Envoy reaches Level 25 you will have a total of 24 skill points. Your companions, however, will only have 7 skill points.

Consequently, companions are only earning a skill point about once every 3-5 of your Envoy levels.

Best Companion Alongside Giatta

Avowed Kai new companion info and starting abilities

Kai is the best Avowed companion to use alongside Giatta in our companion build guide. This is because their playstyles and abilities synergize easily into the ‘holy trinity’ if you are playing a damage dealer of any type. Kai has a strong tank ability called Fire and Ire that let him instantly draw aggro, pulling and enemy away from you. This pairs effectively with Giatta’s Purification healing ability, letting you focus primarily on dealing strong damage to boss monsters.

Companion 2: Kai

  • Active Abilities
    • Ability 1: Fire and Ire
      • Morphs: Quick Reload
    • Ability 2: Unbending Defense
      • Morphs: Iron Will
    • Ability 3: Leap of Daring
      • Morphs: Leap of Pride
  • Passives
    • Passive 1: Second Wind
      • Morphs: Soothing Wind

How to Play Giatta Companion With All Main Classes

How to Play Giatta Companion With All Main Classes

In Avowed, Giatta serves a support role in your party, mostly with her strong active and passive healing but also with other buffs. Therefore, no matter what class you play as the Envoy, she will function in much the same way. The best way to use Giatta’s abilities is to save her burst heal for moments when your health drops, while always triggering her Barrier and Acceleration abilities anytime they aren’t on cooldown.

Furthermore, it can sometimes be hard to keep track of your allies and their health bars during combat. If Giatta’s HP is completely depleted and she falls in battle, you should prioritize reviving her with the Dream Touch godlike ability. This ability has a longer cast time, however, so use the Shadowing Beyond Ranger ability to go invisible for a time.

Giatta Companion With Envoy Fighter Class

The Fighter is a great class to pair with Giatta, as her healing will give you greater confidence when you’re charging in for a kill. Keep her burst heal ready for when you or other party members are low on HP. Fire off her Acceleration ability just before you make your first attack so you’re buffed right from the beginning. Barrier should follow shortly after so that you have extra protection while multiple mobs crowd on you.

Here is a list of skills and abilities that you should activate for the Fighter class with Giatta:

  • Active Abilities & Passives
    • Ability 1: Barbaric Shout
    • Ability 2: Clear Out
    • Passive 1: Constant Recovery
    • Passive 2: Retribution

Giatta Companion With Envoy Ranger Class

When you’re playing as a Ranger in Avowed, you’re ideally going to want to start combat with a stealth strike. Therefore, you’ll want to hide with the Shadowing Beyond ability and then strike with Divine Thorn first. Then, you can cast both Giatta’s Barrier and Acceleration abilities in quick succession for the extra speed and protection. If the fight goes on long enough, keep an eye on the cooldowns so you can trigger them again.

As usual, save the Purification ability for healing is most needed.

Here is a list of skills and abilities that you should activate for Ranger class with Giatta:

  • Active Abilities & Passives
    • Ability 1: Shadowing Beyond
    • Ability 2: Tanglefoot
    • Passive 1: Survivalist
    • Passive 2: Evasive

Giatta Companion With Envoy Wizard Class

Because spellcasters always have less physical protection than other classes, Giatta will be especially helpful in your party when playing the Wizard class. Her Barrier ability will be especially useful in boosting your defenses and you should prioritize upgrading it as soon as possible. Next would be her Purification healing, with either an Essence Shielding or Boosted Essence upgrade.

Here is a list of skills and abilities that you should activate for the Wizard class with Giatta:

  • Active Abilities & Passives
    • Ability 1: Arcane Veil
    • Ability 2: Fireball
    • Passive 1: Blood Magic
    • Passive 2: Armored Essence

Just before initiating combat, pre-buff yourself with her Acceleration ability so that you can cast your abilities faster to start with some burst damage. While we normally don’t recommend it, you could also consider unlocking the Time Shift upgrade instead. This will reduce the cooldowns of any ability you cast while accelerated. However, this will depend on the amount of essence you have. If you burn through all your essence and can’t cast any more spells anyway, then Time Shift may not be worth it.
