How to Play Warfarer Vocation - Dragon's Dogma 2 Class Gameplay

Best Warfarer Build – Hybrid Vocation (Class)

The Warfarer is the embodiment of the jack of all trades, master of none. It can use any weapon combination, skill, and core skill available depending upon which weapon is equipped at the time. You can even run multiple weapons to allow for diverse gameplay and build crafting. This unique playstyle is focused more on the advanced players who understand multiple combat styles and want ultimate customizability. This Hybrid vocation is only for Arisen player-controlled characters and is not available for pawns.

We’ve crafted this Warfarer Build, focusing on multiple aspects of combat, including melee, ranged, survivability, and crown control. You can aid your allies while dealing huge amounts of damage, especially to bosses. The Warfarer takes a while to unlock, but once you do, it’s one of the strongest vocations of Dragon’s Dogma 2.

How to Unlock Warfarer Vocation

Dragon's Dogma 2 Warfarer Unlock Map Location

To unlock the Warfarer vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you must go to the Volcanic Island Camp Hotsprings and find the Warfarer Vocation Maister, Lamond. All of this is located on the Agamen Volcanic Island, the third continent you will visit in the game. You’ll eventually get there by following the map quest storyline. Once there, you need to speak with him and craft Newt Liqueur. Bring three of these liqueurs to him to unlock the vocation. Newt Liqueur can be obtained at the Higg’s Tavern Stand in Battahl.

DD2 Warfarer Gameplay

The following list presents all the essential Warfarer Build Mechanics and Features in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • Augmentations: Exaltation, Polarity, Voracity, Zeal, Endurance, Gratification
  • Best Pawns: Fighter (Main Pawn), Mage, Archer
  • Primary Stat: Stamina

  • Armor: All Armor
  • Rings: Momentum, Skullduggery

Weapon Skills

Skills are attached to which weapons you currently have equipped. For the most optimal experience, we recommend utilizing only two primary vocations because you only have access to 3 skill slots, as one is used to swap weapons. We have chosen Magick Archer and Mystic Spearhand as our vocations/weapons of choice.

Candescent Orb, Ricochet Hunter, Mirour Shelde, and Rearmament are the best skills for our Warfarer build. Firstly, Candescent Orb is an area of effect, damage over time skill that deals flame damage to anyone inside. Ricochet is a burst barrage of arrows that is highly effective in enclosed spaces. Also, Mirour Shelde is a bubble around you and your allies that negates any damage taken while it persists. Lastly, Rearmament allows us to swap to any weapons we currently have equipped.

The fundamental feature and appeal of the Warfarer vocation is its ability to swap between other vocations/weapons. Therefore, while playing the Warfarer, you will only have the skills you’ve leveled up enough to unlock in the vocations for the weapon of your choice. So, it is recommended that multiple vocations be maxed to fully gain the strength of the Warfarer.

The following list presents the best Dragon’s Dogma 2 Warfarer Build Hybrid Vocation (Class) Weapon Skills:

  • Rearmament: Instantly swap to a different weapon on the user’s person.
  • Ricochet Seeker (Ricochet Hunter): Looses a magickal arrow that flies wildly about, increasing in power as it ricochets off walls.
  • Irradiant Orb (Candescent Orb): Fires an orb of searing flame that illuminates the area and may cause targets within to catch fire
  • Mirour Vesture (Mirour Shelde): Erects a magickal barrier around the user and any allies within range.

Rearmament

Dragon's Dogma 2 Rearmament Warfarer Skill

This is the only skill available in the Warfarer vocation. It is what allows the vocation to swap to different weapon types and is the ability that gives the Warfarer its strength. Thus, you can pick two vocations (classes) you like, gaining their best skills and spells. We’ve selected the Mystic Spearhand and Magick Archer.

Rearmament: Instantly switches to a different weapon on the user’s person. Select the type of weapons and the order in which they are equipped in the Equipment menu.

Ricochet Hunter (Ricochet Seeker)

Dragon's Dogma 2 Ricochet Hunter Magick Archer Skill

Ricochet Hunter, an advanced version of Ricochet Seeker, is a powerful tool that uses magical arrows to deal massive amounts of damage. This skill can bounce off walls and eliminate entire hordes or enemies inside enclosed spaces. However, its power is heavily reduced in open areas, but you can shoot it at the floor under your target to deal with some additional damage.

Ricochet Seeker: Looses a magickal arrow that flies wildly about, increasing in power as it ricochets off walls. Effective in cramped quarters.

Candescent Orb (Irradiant Orb)

Dragon's Dogma 2 Candescent Orb Magick Archer Skill

An advanced form of Irradiant Orb, the Candescent Orb is a powerful damage-over-time skill that deals area-of-effect damage to any enemies caught inside. It can stick to surfaces and enemies while setting them on fire. Candescent Orb is great for using as an opening attack and to keep pressure on enemies while you use other skills.

Irradiant Orb: This ability fires an orb of searing flame that illuminates the area and may cause targets within to catch fire. The orb adheres to walls and hostile targets on contact. The effect duration depends on charge time.

Mirour Shelde (Mirour Vesture)

Dragon's Dogma 2 Mirour Shield Mythic Spearhand Skill

The Mirour Shelde is our primary survivability tool. It allows us to negate all damage from use and any nearby allies by placing a bubble around us. It’s an advanced upgrade to the Mirour Vesture that allows us to take no damage while active. Keeping the Mirour Shelde up while taking any damage is crucial to this build.

Mirour Shelde – Erects a magickal barrier around the user and any allies within range. Each barrier only lasts for a very short span of time, but nullifies all manner of attacks for the duration.

Core Skills

Dragon's Dogma 2 Forbeding Bolt Core Skill Mystic Spearhand

Consequently, due to the nature of Warfarer’s ability to switch between other vocations/weapons, this vocation does not have its own Core Skills. Instead, the Core Skills you have access to depend on the weapon you have equipped. Therefore, any Core Skills you’ve previously unlocked for those weapons will be available to you when using them. Since our Warfarer Hybrid Vocation build utilizes the Magick Archer and Mystic Spearhand vocations, we will be focusing on those core skills.

  • Redoubted Bolt (Mystic Spearhand): This skill allows us to knock off balance, immobilize targets in an area of effect, and gap close to any enemies hit with it. It has huge crowd control potential on core skill and multiple avenues to utilize it with Scatering Bolt, Quik Foot, and Forbeding Bolt.
  • Conversion (Magick Archer): This allows us to switch between the Pinpoint Volley and Rivet Shots depending on the target type. We can target multiple targets or points on a target or swap to a single target or point.

Maister Skills

Gift Lamond 3 bottles of Newt Liqueur and he will reward you with the Warfarer Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2

In Dragon’s Dogma 2 you can learn an ultimate ability for your vocation from Maisters. Acquiring these abilities can often change the way you play your class, and are worth taking the time to earn.

Furthermore, getting the ultimate ability for the Warfarer follows the game quest you take to unlock the vocation itself. Completing that quest will grant you both the vocation and the ultimate ability Rearmament.

The Following Lists presents the Warfarer Ultimate Ability and How to Unlock:

  • Maister: Lamond
  • Location: Volcanic Island Camp (Hot Springs)
  • Required Quest: Newt Liqueur. Speak to Lamond and he will request that you find him three bottles of Newt Liqueur.
  • Quest Timer: This quest does not appear to have a ‘fail’ timer on it.
  • Ultimate Ability – Rearmament: Gain the ability to swap between weapons/vocations.

Augmentations

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Augments are passive bonuses to your character and build overall power. You obtain these by leveling classes or vocations and can equip up to 6 of them. However, you want to level in a particular way to gain the most effective ones at the start of Dragon’s Dogma 2. This Warfarer build uses one from 6 different vocations, so we suggest leveling multiple vocations until you unlock the Warfarer. At the start, consider taking any vocations augments and experiment with different vocations.

  • Polarity (Mystic Spearhand): Augments your Strength during the day and your Magick at night. Requires Mystic Spearhand Rank 6 and 1,800 Discipline
  • Voracity (Magick Archer): Recovers a small amount of Stamina when you deliver the killing blow to a target. Requires Magick Archer Rank 4 and 900 Discipline
  • Exaltation (Mage): Augments your Stamina recovery speed. Requires Mage Rank 9 and 5,000 Discipline.
  • Zeal (Warfarer): Reduces the Stamina consumed when performing a weapon skill. Requires Warfarer Rank 6 and 1,800 Discipline.
  • Endurance (Archer): Increases your maximum Stamina. Requires Archer Rank 4 and 900 Discipline.
  • Gratification (Thief): Slightly restores Health when you deliver a killing blow to a foe. Requires Thief Rank 4 and 900 Discipline.

Best Pawns for Warfarer Build

Dragon's Dogma 2 - Fighter Vocation (Class) Overview and Description - DD2

The best Pawns that can aid your Warfarer in combat are a Fighter, Mage, and Archer. This combination provides tankiness, healing, and a ranged ally to make sure all aspects of combat in your group are covered. The Fighter helps taunt, stun, and keep the pressure off of you. Also, the Mage provides group buffs and healing making sure your group remains healthy through extended combat. Lastly, the Archer mains range and allows for a damage source to be outside of dangerous areas and keep up constant damage. However, if you plan on supporting or changing your party composition, consider using the Thief for extra boss damage.

Below are the best pawns for the Warfarer vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • Fighter (Main Pawn) – Your fighter is the best choice for a main pawn to control enemies and taunt them, keeping the pressure off of you. The Warrior can fill this role as well. However, Fighters are better suited for taking excess damage and keeping enemies away from you and other Pawns.
  • Mage – These provide group buffs that give elemental damage to your weapons and keep the group healthy by offering multiple heals.
  • Archer – Since our gameplay will mostly be focused on close-range engagements, an Archer can provide some constant ranged damage with little risk by being away from the damage. This allows you to maneuver around the fights as needed with constant support damage from behind.

Warfarer Gameplay Tips and Tricks

The Warfarer can play at any range of engagement styles due to the adaptability of the vocation. You’ll want to control sprinting, though you should have great stamina and sustain. Opening combat, look to place a burning orb on your main priority and then charge up your immobilization and gap close to engage the enemy. Experiment with different skill combinations and engagement rotations depending on your desired playstyle.

Survivability

Dragon's Dogma 2 Mirour Shield Mythic Spearhand Skill Active

One of the best advantages of the Warfarer vocation is the ability to utilize all of the strong skills from the various vocations available to make a robust build. With the Mirour Shelde, you gain a shield that blocks all incoming damage, making you and your allies a super tank while it’s active. Also, with the Mystic Spearhand, we can immobilize enemies and use it to gap close or spread the immobilization to other nearby enemies. Both these available while building a strong pawn composition make survival a joke. As long as you keep these things active, you will be nearly unstoppable.

Damage

Dragon's Dogma 2 Ricochet Hunter Magick Archer Skill Active

The biggest benefit of the Warfarer vocation is that you can choose whatever you want for damage skills and weapons. Customization is the most powerful attribute of the vocation. With our choices for weapons, we can utilize both weapons for damage and prioritize utility skills or serve a separate function. Most of our damage is going to be done using our duospear in melee range; however, we have options for ranged damage as well.

Large Monsters

DD2 Use Weak Points on Large Monsters

When fighting bosses and large monsters, you can play at any range. If they require precision damage, you can retreat with your Magick Bow while still retaining massive survivability. Also, please don’t be scared to play in the melee range since we have a skill that keeps us immune to incoming damage. Regardless of the enemy type, we are strong and have incredible damage and survivability

Equipment for Dragon’s Dogma 2 Warfarer Build

By the time you unlock the Warfarer Vocation you will have traveled most of the map in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You will be far past the Beginner Gear stage and should be able to purchase some of the best Advanced Gear available.

In general, the best advanced gear in the game comes from the vendors rather than from monster drops. This makes finding most weapons and armor fairly straightforward. However, it can cost quite a bit for you to fully outfit your Arisen and main Pawn.

Note that the Charming Corset is the best advanced piece of body armor for any vocation, but you can only acquire it once by turning in 150 Seeker’s Tokens at the Vocation Guild. Also, the stat difference on Cloaks is negligible, so you can feel free to choose whatever you think looks best on your character.

Finally, don’t forget to upgrade and enhance your items in order to improve their damage dealing abilities and levels of protection.
