In Assassin’s Creed, you can take on a series of quests, which make you investigate members of the group, the Yokai. Yokai is the term used for supernatural beings from Japanese folklore, including ghosts, demons, monsters, and shapeshifters. One of these Yokai, Bakemono, is a kind of shapeshifter.

However, in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the Bakemono you are looking for are two farmers with intense passion for melons. They have their bodies painted and wear fruit hats on their heads. Additionally, both of the eccentric individuals grow different types of melons, and their families have been dueling each other for generations. The champion of the duel always has their melon harvest blessed.

Here’s a guide to help you locate the pair of farmers misunderstood as Bakemono and help decide on a winner.

You can find both farmers at Suika Lands. Talk to either one to start a conversation. The farmer talks about their situation, which leads you to choose your favorite fruit. Depending on the choice of your favorite fruit, you have to fight the opponent representing the other fruit. Here is what both choices lead to:

  • If you say, “I prefer the suika,” then you fight the Makuwauri No Bakemono.
  • If you say, “I prefer the makuwauri,” then you fight the Suika No Bakemono.

You can choose either option, as both farmers have the same moveset and are very easy to defeat. They do slow sword slashes, with some unstoppable slashes in between. Bring your opponent’s health down to zero to win the duel. The winning Bakemono leaves happily, while the loser bends down, crying over the loss.

Here’s what you win from winning the duel with the Melon Bakemono in Assassin’s Creed Shadows:

  • Damage after Ability (Engraving)
  • 2 Mastery Points
  • 2000 EXP
