How To Beat Kappa (Yokai) in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Kappa is a pair of misunderstood children in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Here’s how you can locate and help them.  

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, many side quests are not directly tied to the main story but help build up the lore around the world. One such series of quests involves investigating the mysterious Yokai, a group consisting of six members. While Yokai are mythical creatures from Japanese folklore, the ones you seek in this game are just misunderstood individuals. Among them, the Kappa is one of the most innocent.

The Kappa in Japanese folklore are vampiric turtle-like beings, who are less malevolent towards humans. They usually stay near water bodies and are feared by many people. However, in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the Kappa you are looking for is a pair of children disguised as Kappa. Additionally, they are tasked with using their disguise to scare people away as part of a deal with thieves in exchange for food.

Location of the Kappa in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Firstly, the pair of children disguised as Kappa only appear at night. Additionally, from the clues you obtain, you get to know they are in the Yamashiro region near a haunted village. Their exact location is marked in the image above. It is directly to the east of the Haunted Tatarigami Village, on the riverside downhill. Moreover, both children can be heard shouting as you get near them, which makes them easy to locate.

Helping the Kappa in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

For this quest, you can choose either Naoe or Yasuke, as the enemies you fight are common thieves. When you find the pair of children, both of them start running uphill while shouting to scare you away. Follow both closely till you reach the bandit camp. The mission objective now switches to kill all the bandits. The bandits are easy to defeat and scattered around, so you can easily take each of them separately.

After defeating all the bandits, both children appear on the southeastern cliffside. Go and talk to them to know why they disguise themselves as Kappa, as they beg you not to hurt them. The quest ends after you advise them not to disguise themselves as Kappa because that can get them killed very easily.
