How to Fast Travel in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Is there Fast Travel in Tears of the Kingdom?

Yes, there are a couple of different fast travel methods available in Tears of the Kingdom! In this Fast Travel Guide we’ll go over each of the different fast travel mechanisms, when you acquire them in the game, and how to use them.

How to Fast Travel in Tears of the Kingdom

Fast travel is a really simple game mechanic in Tears of the Kingdom. It’s incredibly handy for players and should come into a lot of good use, considering the vast, sprawling world of Hyrule and the Sky Islands.

When you unlock a fast travel point in game (more on that in a minute), the ground at these locations will glow with a blue medallion. At that point, a corresponding blue mark will appear on your in-game map. In order to fast travel is to open up the map, move the cursor over the blue marked location you want to go and choose to travel by pressing the ‘A’ button.

You can fast travel from any point, at almost anytime. There will be a few exceptions (such as if you’re falling through space), but overall fast travel will be a much for Hyrule adventuring.

Fast Travel Methods

You’ll unlock a couple different fast travel methods through out the game, along with a few different types of locations to unlock.

Shrines

Shrines are the first fast travel way points you unlock in the game. When you’re in the beginning of the game and visiting your first three shrines, you’ll notice a blue medallion appearing on the ground in front of the shrine entrances. These are the fast travel points

They won’t unlock for use until after you have completed the tutorial area, however, so keep that in mind! It’s also important to note that if you get to a shrine but don’t have the time to complete it, you can still unlock the fast travel point. Interacting with the shrine entrance is what unlocks the fast travel point – NOT completing the shrine. So feel free to unlock the point and fast travel back later!

Skyview Towers

There are additional fast travel points you can unlock on the surface world of Hyrule. In order to unlock you will first have to travel to them. Interact with the pedestal inside to sync up your Purah Pad and then step unto the circular area right in front. This will cause a blue fast travel medallion to appear.

Don’t leave the Tower just yet, though. If you step forward and interact with the platform you’ll be cannoned high up into the air and Link will use the Pad to scan the ground below, which unlocks a much more detailed map of the area. After the cut sequence you can paraglide Link down to anywhere for a landing.

Lightroots

These are the fast travel points you can unlock once you are far enough in the game to access The Chasm. This is a vast underground area almost as large as the surface world above. As the name implies, Lightroots are glimmering points in the darkness that look like glowing yellow tree bulbs. Interacting with them will light them (and the surrounding area up), heal whatever damage you’ve taken from the gloom, and also unlock a fast travel point.

Travel Medallions

Unlike the fixed locations of all the other fast travel points, Travel Medallions are a way for you as the player to create fast travel points wherever you like. In order to receive these Medallions you’ll have to complete Robbie’s Researcher side quests. At the end of the quest line, Robbie will reward you with three Travel Medallions.

The Medallions will be stored in your inventory under ‘Key Items’. When you are at a place you want to create a fast travel point to, have Link hold the Medallion and then drop it. This will create a new fast travel point.

Should you eventually wish to retrieve that Medallion to use somewhere else, you can get it back by opening the world map. Choose the Medallion spot you wish to remove, click the “Collect Medallion” option and you will find it returned to your inventory!
