The Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom
Anyone who has made it more than a little way into the game knows that the prologue of Tears of the Kingdom shows the Master Sword becoming corrupted by the evil corpse below Hyrule castle. Even in its damaged state Link keeps it for a little while, but by the end of the tutorial section on Great Sky Island he will no longer carry it.
As any longtime player of The Legend of Zelda knows, the Master Sword is essential to defeating Ganondorf. So where is it this time?

How to Find the Master Sword
Tears of the Kingdom does not automatically guide players to the Master Sword. It is not part of the Main Quest line and those who play straight through the story risk missing it.
IMPORTANT: You will need to have at least two full Stamina wheels in order to obtain the sword. Link starts the game with one, so you will need to trade in 20 Lights of Blessing in order to get the five Stamina Vessels needed for another full stamina wheel.
The Sword can be found through a side quest, however. Cleansing the Great Hyrule Forest will allow Link the chance to speak with the Deku Tree. Doing so will grant you the Recovering the Hero’s Sword quest. Interestingly, if you pull up your map to view the quest marker, you’ll see that the dot representing the sword is moving!
Fast travel to the nearest Sky Tower and if you’re close enough you’ll clearly see why the Sword isn’t stationary – it’s on the head of the Light Dragon. Launch yourself from the Tower and glide to land on the Dragon’s back.
HOT TIP: Before you pull the sword, be sure to harvest the Light Dragon’s Scale materials off of its back. Hit the spikes with your sword and a scale should drop.
Make your way up to the head, and if you have the necessary two full stamina wheels available, you will be successful in pulling the sword.
Without the Quest?
Surprisingly, it appears as though you can obtain the Master Sword without getting the quest from the Deku Tree. But it can require quite a bit of luck!
The Light Dragon is out flying around from the very beginning of the game, and you can seek it out and land on its back at anytime. (Provided you have two full stamina wheels.)
However, finding the Light Dragon won’t be easy. It appears to fly around the entirety of the Hyrule map. If you’ve traveled around a bit and unlocked a lot of Sky Tower fast travel points it might be somewhat easier – or at least wouldn’t take as long.
Good luck searching!
