Learn how to find and recruit Minthara in a Good Playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3, without killing the Tieflings.
This build has been updated for the Patch 7 version of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Who is Minthara in BG3?
Minthara, a Drow Paladin, is driven to take down the Druid Grove in the name of the Absolute. You’ll encounter her early in the Goblin Camp, where she stands as one of the three leaders. Players can align with her, aiding in destroying the settlement and its Druids, or oppose her by siding with Halsin. To recruit her, you must side with goblins, which will close the possibility of recruiting Halsin. If Minthara survives the Druid Grove assault, she will eventually become a playable companion, Paladin.
Should You Recruit Minthara in BG3?
While there is no such thing as an objectively “Good Playthrough” in Baldur’s Gate 3, some player choices can lead to “good outcomes” with everyone saved. One of those decisions usually associated with a good playthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3 is to side with Tiefling refugees and kill all 3 goblin leaders who plan to attack the Druids Grove in Act 1.
This vital decision also led to a choice between Halsin and Minthara, two companions who can potentially join your team. If you kill goblins, including Minthara, typically, you will get Halsin as an available team member. Alternatively, agreeing to help goblins to invade and kill Tieflings would allow you to recruit Minthara but instead kill Halsin during the attack.
However, in Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5, developers added a characteristic trick, an option for players who want to recruit Minthara without killing innocent Tiefling refuges and follow the “good playthrough choices.” So now you can have all available companions in your camp, regardless of your decisions. This guide explains how to recruit Minthara on a “Good Playthrough” in Baldur’s Gate 3 without killing Tieflings.
- You can still recruit and have Halsin in your party.
- Since patch 5, you can recruit Minthara as your companion and even a romance interest on a good playthrough without killing Tieflings and Druids in Emerald Grove.
- You must knock her out and meet a few requirements.
- You can then get Minthara and persuade her to join you in Act 2.

How to Recruit Minthara on a Good Playthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3
To get Minthara on a good playthrough, you must activate non-lethal attacks and knock her out in the goblin camp in Act 1. Then reach Act 2, and you can find her alive in Moonrise Towers, judged by General Ketheric Thorn during Act 2. Rescue her, and she will join you.
However, you should remember that there are a few essential rules to note before attempting the whole process required for this method to work.
- Find Minthara in Goblin camp
- Kill Priestess Gut and Dror Ragzlin
- Turn On Non-Lethal Attacks and Knock Out Minthara
- Find Minthara again in Moonrise Towers, Act 2
- Convince Kethrick to spare Minthara
- Save Minthara
- Recruit Minthara
1 Find Minthara in Goblin camp
To prevent the attack at Druid Grove, you must kill three goblin leaders in the goblin camp: Minthara, Priestess Gut, and Dror Ragzlin. We won’t actually kill Minthara, but more on that later. First, you need to find a goblin camp.
The Goblin camp is located on the west side of the Act 1 map. A small army of goblins protects all three leaders and occupies the old Selune temple. First, it’s a good idea to gain some levels and explore all areas between those two locations. Killing the entire goblin camp and its bosses might be challenging. When you are ready, head directly west from Druid Grove to find Minthara and the goblin leaders inside the Shattered Sanctum on the north side of the camp.
You can approach goblins in a friendly manner. As a result, you can check Roah Moonglow’s and Grat the Trader’s shops’ stock and get some permanent bonuses before you start killing everyone inside.
2 Kill Priestess Gut and Dror Ragzlin
Once you are ready, kill Priestess Gut and Dror Ragzlin. You can speak with Minthara first, especially if it’s your first playthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3 and you want to recruit her. She has some exciting dialogue, so you can learn more about her. However, you must tell her you won’t help them invade Druid Grove, which will make her hostile.
The rule is that you can’t rest long after you knock out Minthara if you haven’t killed all goblin leaders yet. If any goblin leader or goblins inside the Shattered Sanctum are alive, and you take a long rest, they will wake Minthara, and you will need to knock her out and fight her again.
Knocking her out again can give you some small extra experience, but playing it safe is probably the best way to achieve your goal. On the other hand, killing everyone without a long rest between fights might be challenging. So, if it isn’t your first playthrough or you are not interested in what she has to say, it’s best to start clearing the goblins and leaders from a Dror Ragzlin, then heading to Priestess Gut quarters, and knock out Minthara just before heading to Halsin prison.
Once you attack the first leader, all goblins will become hostile.
3 Turn On Non-Lethal Attacks and Knock Out Minthara (crucial for recruiting her)
If you kill Dror Ragzlin, Priestess Gut, and all goblins you meet on your way to Minthara in the northeast side of the Shattered Sanctum, she will attack you immediately. Save just before the fight in case something goes wrong.
Defeat the goblins who guard her first; she is a strong paladin, and killing her will be challenging. You also must pick passives on your skill UI and toggle “Non-Lethal Attacks.” This setting will knock out Minthara instead of killing her when her health points reach 0, and they will stay at 1.
There are a few essential factors to remember if you want to recruit Minthara on your good playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3:
- You must use a melee weapon. Downing her with ranged attacks or spells will kill her.
- There is a wooden bridge that can be easily destroyed by accident with AoE spells and various attacks. If Minthara stands on it, she may drop into the chasm and die, preventing you from recruiting her. Ensure she is on stable ground.
- Do not knock her out if she stands in the fire, acid, or any area effect that deals damage over time. It may kill her.
- If you damage Minthara, avoid any damage over time. Those spells and abilities may add to the damage and also kill her.
Once she is unconscious on the ground, you can loot her items without problems. She has: Spidersilk Armour, Boots of Striding, Xyanyde, Drow Leather Gloves, Dagger, Mace, and other essentials. Also, don’t forget to head to the prison in the northeast to potentially help Halsin.
4 Find Minthara again in Moonrise Towers in Baldur’s Gate 3, Act 2
Proceed to Act 2 and make your way across the Shadow-Cursed lands to find Moonrise Towers. Moonrise Towers is on the southwest side of the Shadow Cursed Lands. We advise you to approach the absolute worshipers peacefully at first. This way, you can free tieflings from the prison and check the vendors’ stock inside. Most importantly, you will meet Minthara again in the Throne Room, behind the big main door straight ahead of the main entrance. Some of the following dialogue options from now on are crucial to recruit Minthara on a good playthrough.
5 Convince Kethrick to Spare Minthara
A cutscene will start with Kethrick Thorn judging Minthara as soon as you enter. She will try to explain herself, advocating for her life in front of the absolute cult leader. You will have four choices, three requiring a Wisdom skill check of 16 DC. Regardless of what you say, make sure you pass a Wisdom check, and Minthara will be sent to prison. This starts the Decide Minthara’s Fate quest.
You will need to deal with goblins as usual.
6 Save Minthara
Go to the room on the right and take the stairs to Moonrise Towers prison. In the cell on the left, you will find Minthara being tortured by two gnome questioners. Speak with them and try to save Minthara by choosing the first option:
“What are you doing to her?”
Then, you will need to pass one of the skill checks, Deception or Intimidiation. Both require 10 DC Charisma. You can also fight the guards. Next pick:
“Reach for the Drow’s mind”
Pass another wisdom 18 DC skill check. If you succeed, you can free her, and she will help you defeat gnomes. If you fail, you can still kill the questioners and free her less peacefully.
Minthara will explain what happened to her, and in gratitude, she will follow you as an ally. If you leave the cell with Minthara, other guards will stop you and question you. You can pass another Intimidation, persuasion, or deception skill check to talk your way out of this attack. Aggression will trigger everyone in Moonrise Towers prison to become hostile.
During the fights, ensure you won’t lose Minthara. If her health drops, you can heal her or throw a healing potion at her. You can use the side entrance to help her escape the Moonrise Towers. Once you are safe and outside of the absolute worshiper range, Minthara will start a conversation with you.
You can tell her to join you at your camp and wait for you there, where she will stay in the tent next to the Halsin.
7 You Can Finally recruit Minthara on a Baldur’s Gate 3: Good Playthrough
When you see an exclamation point above Minthara’s head at your campsite, talk to her to recruit her to your party.
Minthara is a Noble Paladin Lolth-Sworn Drow by default. It’s now possible to recruit Minthara on a good playthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3 without killing Tieflings, and we are all glad that Larian implemented this because she is a charismatic companion and a valuable asset to the team.

Minthara Companion Changes in Patch 7 for BG3
Minthara received a few changes in Patch 7, most notably reacting in Act 2 if you knocked her unconscious in Act 1. Additionally, Minthara’s choice to follow you in Act 3 may change if you accept Bhaal’s gift. Lastly, the evil endings can change depending on if you’re a Dark Urge character, so much more detail in her character going forward. However, the gameplay, combat, and other character elements remain unchanged.
