Discover all of the Infernal Iron locations, find out how to collect it, and what you can use it for in this Baldur’s Gate 3 guide.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, players are immersed in a world brimming with hidden treasures, ancient relics, and powerful resources. However, one typical RPG mechanic that doesn’t make much of an appearance in this game is crafting. While there is an Alchemy system for potions and elixirs, there is no game-spanning system for crafting your own gear. However, there are two exceptions to this, one where you can use Mithral Ore in Act 1, and another where you can collect Infernal Iron throughout the game.
In the following guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Infernal Iron. Including what it is, all the locations you can find pieces in, and what it’s used for in Baldur’s Gate 3.
What is Infernal Iron in BG3?
Infernal Iron is a metal produced in the Nine Hells, with properties that allow it to be used for assisting potential companion Karlach, as well as creating a special set of Flawed Helldusk gear in Act 2. Although there is a limited amount of Infernal Iron to be found in BG3, the game provides more than enough materials for you to complete both tasks. Therefore, so long as you know where to find Infernal Iron you will not have to make a choice that requires sacrificing one or the other.
Furthermore, two other special metals in BG3 have a slightly different name, but essentially all function as Infernal Iron:
- Infernal Alloy
- Infernal Metal
However, Enriched Infernal Iron does NOT function like Infernal Iron and has no specific use in-game. The best thing to do with it would be to simply sell it to a merchant.

Uses of Infernal Iron in BG3
In Baldur’s Gate 3, you can use Infernal Iron to help repair Karlach’s infernal engine and you can give additional pieces to Dammon during Act 2 and he will craft you gear from the Flawed Helldusk Set.
First, to have either of these options available, you must have saved the Teiflings in the Emerald Grove so that Dammon survives. Otherwise, he will not be available at the Last Light Inn during Act 2. Consequently, he will not be able to repair Karlach’s heart a second time or craft any of the Flawed Helldusk set.
To repair Karlach’s infernal engine in Baldur’s Gate 3 you will need:
- One piece of Infernal Iron in Act 1
- One piece of Infernal Iron in Act 2
There are three pieces to the Flawed Helldusk gear set:
To craft Flawed Helldusk gear you will need one piece of Infernal Iron for each piece of equipment. It appears that the order in which Dammon crafts these items for you is random. However, so long as you bring him three pieces of Infernal Iron/Alloy/Metal, he will craft each piece for you.
