Best Magick Archer Build – Hybrid Vocation (Class)

The Magik Archer is an enhanced Hybrid Vocation that uses magic bows. It relies on its proficiency in ranged combat, spellcasting, and support abilities to deal damage and excel on the battlefield. What makes the Magick Archer build unique is its vocation to heal and do damage at a high level without sacrificing anything. This unique class combines potent offensive and defensive spellcasting capabilities with arrows. This Hybrid vocation is only for Arisen player-controlled characters and is not available for pawns.

We’ve crafted this Magick Archer Build, focusing on damage and support. You can aid your allies while dealing huge amounts of damage, especially to bosses. The Magick Archer takes a while to unlock, but once you do, it’s one of the strongest vocations of Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Skills

DD2 - Best Magick Archer Weapon Skills - Dragon's Dogma 2 Build

Irradiant Orb, Ricochet Seeker, Martyr’s Bolt, and Frostseeker Bolt are the best skills for the Magick Archer build in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Irradiant Orb is your damage over time fire spell that sticks to targets. Ricochet Seeker is a powerful close-quarters lighting spell that helps when in an enclosed area. The Martyr’s Bolt skill drains your health while charged but can destroy almost any enemy in seconds. Frostseeker Bolt helps control targets with ice damage and status effects. If you prefer a support setup, swap Vimtaking Arrow for Ricochet Seeker and Remedy Arrow for Martyr’s Bolt.

The following list presents the best Dragon’s Dogma 2 Magick Archer Build Hybrid Vocation (Class) Weapon Skills:

  • Irradiant Orb (Candescent Orb): Damage over time; fire spell in medium range.
  • Ricochet Seeker (Ricochet Hunter): close-quarters lighting damage spell (flex Vimtaking Arrow for support builds).
  • Martyr’s Bolt: the highest damage skill but big risk ((flex Remedy Arrow for support builds).
  • Frostseeker Bolt (Frosthunter Bolt): ice damage arrow that applies status effects.

Irradiant Orb (Candescent Orb)

DD2 - Magick Archer Candescent Orb Skill

The Irradiant Orb skill is sticky damage, such as a fire arrow over time. The strength of this skill is that it will stick to anything, including the ground, walls, or bosses! Moreover, the damage over time is significant opening damage attack. However, be aware the range is limited, so keep your distance and use another skill if you can’t get close. The Candescent Orb skill is an advanced form of Irradiant Orb that extends the effect’s duration.

Irradiant Orb – Fires an orb of searing flame that illuminates the area and may cause targets within to catch fire. Orb adheres to walls and hostile targets on contact. Effect duration depends on charge time.

Ricochet Seeker (Ricochet Hunter)

DD2 - Magick Archer Ricochet Hunter Skill

The Ricochet Hunter skill is a powerful lighting magickal arrow intended for close quarters. Its effectiveness is due to the lighting bouncing off walls, increasing damage. However, this skill is situational depending on whether it is used in the open world or closed quarters, which makes it flexible to swap out. The Ricochet Hunter is an advanced form of Ricochet Seeker that extends the magickal arrow’s effect duration.

Ricochet Seeker – Loses a magickal arrow that flies wildly about, increasing in power as it ricochets off walls. Effective in cramped quarters.

The Skill Vimtaking Arrow is helpful if you wish to gain more support rather than damage. Depending on your situation, you can also use another elemental skill, such as Hailstone Bolt or Flamefang Arrow.

Martyr’s Bolt

DD2 - Magick Archer Martyr's Bolt Skill

Martyr’s Bolt is a high-risk, high-reward skill because it drains your health while charging. However, this skill can single-handedly destroy a Drake, and you can heal to full with consumables. The trick to using Martyr’s Bolt is situational awareness and ensuring you won’t take damage for a two—to three-second charge. Moreover, you may want to swap your main Pawn to a Mage so they can cast a heal-to-full spell when needed.

Remedy Arrow – Fires the ultimate magickal bolt in exchange for a temporary decrease to the user’s maximum Health. Reduced amount determines the bolt’s potency. The loss gauge accumulates while charging.

Alternatives: Consider using the Remedy Arrow skill if you wish to play more of a support build and/or want less risk.

Frostseeker Bolt (Frosthunter Bolt)

DD2 - Magick Archer Frostbolt Seeker Skill

The Frostseeker Bolt spell is helpful because it’s ice damage and applies status effects. Thus, you can control the crowd and snare enemies with this spell. Unlike Ricochet Seeker, this spell has utility in the open world or closed quarters and keeps enemies suppressed. The skill Frosthunter Bolt is an advanced form of Frostseeker Bolt that extends the effect’s duration.

Frostseeker Bolt – Fires a bolt of magickal ice that pursues hostile targets of its own accord and can inflict frostbite.

Core Skills

DD2 Best Magick Archer Core Skills - Dragon's Dogma 2 Builds

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Core Skills act as passive perks or basic attacks for your Magick Archer Build. The Magick Archer requires you to hold down Conversion and use Pinpoint Volley or Rivet Shot. Pinpoint Volley acts as an area skill, while Rivet is single-target focused. Therefore, expect to hold down buttons differently depending on the context of the fight and what skills you plan on using. Your Quick Fire skill is a basic attack with little damage but does not consume stamina.

The following list presents Core Skills for Magick Archer Build:

  • Quick Fire: Fires a trio of magickal arrows that disperse in a forward direction. Can be employed while moving. Pierces target with arrow directly if employed while clinging to or pinning down a target.
  • Conversion: Alters ability of user’s magickal arrows. Choose: Pinpoint Volley that strikes multiple targets or multiple points on a target—OR Rivet Shot that attacks a single target or one point on a target.
  • Pinpoint Volley: Takes aim at multiple targets or multiple points on a target before firing with precision. Can be employed while moving.
  • Rivet Shot: Takes aim at a single target or a single point on a target before firing with precision. Can be employed while moving.
  • Scopic Sight: Extends lock-on range when using Pinpoint Volley or Rivet Shot
  • Tracker’s Sight: Increases the maximum number of lock-on targets when using Pinpoint Volley or Rivet Shot.
  • Climactic Arrow: Increases harm inflicted with Pinpoint Volley and Rivet Shot if loosed the instant the bow is fully drawn
  • Protracting Arrow: After the user employs a fire, ice, or lightning weapon skill, the element is conferred to arrows loosed with Quickfire, Pinpoint Volley, and Rivet Shot. The effect persists for a short time.

Maister Skills

Dragon's Dogma 2 Magick Archer Maister Cliodhna

In Dragon’s Dogma 2 you can learn an ultimate ability for your vocation from Maisters. Each of these teachers have mastered their chosen vocation and once you have gained their approval you can unlock these powerful skills.

Moreover, you do not have to reach a specific Vocation Rank before you can unlock these ultimate abilities. However, you must have unlocked the Vocation itself. As a Hybrid class you will have to find the Vocation Maister Cliodhna in order to unlock the Mystic Archer vocation. Furthermore, completing the quest for her and her husband not only unlocks the vocation, but also grants you the ultimate ability at the same time!

The Following Lists presents the Magick Archer Ultimate Ability and How to Unlock:

  • Maister: Cliodhna
  • Location: Windwalker’s House, later at Volcanic Island Camp (Hot Springs)
  • Required Quest: ‘Put a Spring in Thy Step.’ After collecting flowers for the dwarf Gautstafr and speaking to his wife Cliodhna, agree to escort him to the Hot Springs.
  • Quest Timer: This quest doesn’t appear to have a timer, though once you’ve started it, you should probably finish it as soon as possible.
  • Ultimate Ability—Martyr’s Bolt: Fires the ultimate magical bolt in exchange for a temporary decrease to the user’s maximum health. The reduced amount determines the bolt’s potency. The loss gauge accumulates while charging.

Augmentations

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Augments are passive bonuses to your character and builds overall power. You obtain these by leveling classes or vocations, and can equip up to 6 of them. However, you want to level in a particular way to gain the most effective ones at the start of DD2. This Magick Archer build uses four from the Sorcerer class, thus we suggest leveling that until you unlock the Magick Archer. At the start, consider taking any vocations augments and experiment with different vocations.

The Following List presents Augmentations for Magick Archer Build:

  1. Sagacity (Sorcerer): Augments your Magick. Requires Sorcerer and Vocation Rank 9 to unlock with 5,000 Discipline.
  2. Asperity (Sorcerer): Increases the likelihood of inflicting debilitations with your attacks. Requires Sorcerer and Vocation Rank 2 to unlock with 300 Discipline.
  3. Catalysis (Sorcerer): Increases damage dealt when exploiting a hostile target’s elemental weakness. Requires Sorcerer and Vocation Rank 8 to unlock with 3,000 Discipline.
  4. Constancy (Sorcerer): Augments your Knockdown Resistance. Requires Sorcerer and Vocation Rank 6 to unlock with 1,800 Discipline.
  5. Lethality (Archer): Increases damage dealt when striking a target’s vitals. Requires Archer Vocation and rank 8 with 3,000 discipline cost.
  6. Voracity (Magick Archer): Recovers a small amount of Stamina when you deliver the killing blow to a target. Magick Archer ranks 4 and 900 Discipline.

Best Pawns for Magick Archer Build

Dragon's Dogma 2 - Fighter Vocation (Class) Overview and Description - DD2

The best Pawns for your Magick Archer build are the Fighter, Sorcerer, and Mage. The Fighter helps taunt, stun, and crowd enemies, keeping pressure off you. The Sorcerer is a powerful spellcaster playing at range and doing elemental damage and crowd control. The Mage is the best for damage-focused Magick Archers due to its support and healing. However, if you plan on supporting or changing your party composition, consider using the Thief for extra boss damage.

Below are the best pawns for the Magick Archer vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • Fighter (main pawn)—Your fighter is the best choice for a main pawn to control enemies and taunt them. The Warrior can also serve this function with more Area Damage. However, Fighters have great skills that limit incoming damage and make them the most survivable of all.
  • Sorcerer – For extra range elemental damage, consider using the Sorcerer. Your team will focus on range damage, providing great all-around damage.
  • Mage or Thief – Depending on your playstyle, select Mage for healing and support or Thief for burst damage and boss pressures.

Magick Archer Gameplay Tips and Tricks

The Magick Archer should play at range, charging attacks focusing on a single target or area-based damage. You aim to keep a safe distance and strafe to avoid unexpected damage. You’ll want to control sprinting, though you should have great stamina and sustain. Opening combat, look to place a burning orb on your main priority and slide step back to a safe distance as you deal damage to trash mobs. Experiment with Martyr’s Bolt for huge damage, but always be prepared to heal yourself.

Stamina Management

DD2 - Stamina - Dragon's Dogma 2 10 Tips to Know Before Playing

Managing stamina on your Magick Archer will be easy, considering you are playing at range and not climbing bosses. You don’t want to overcharge skills that drain or do not regenerate stamina. Moreover, keep at least 25% stamina left if you need to sprint away from enemies. Your carrying weight and your player’s size will determine stamina regeneration. Thus, for a maxed-out build, we suggest something smaller.

Survivability

DD2 - Sorcerer Build Consumable - Dragon's Dogma 2

Your survivability largely comes from keeping your distance and your tank taunting targets. The primary issue will be relying on Marty’s Bolt for damage, then suddenly getting attacked. The Allheal Elixir and Pancea potion can help you recover fully. Also, learn to strafe while dealing damage, rotating constantly because enemies do not have target locks. Therefore, they will often miss you, and you’ll avoid a harmful gap closer.

Large Monsters

DD2 Use Weak Points on Large Monsters

When fighting bosses and large monsters, keep at range and memorize their mechanics. You aim to charge Marty’s Bolt when anticipating zero damage or random gap closers toward your character. Then, shoot off the bolt for great damage and have your Mage or potion heal you back up. You can also manually send forward your Tank Pawn to start the fight and hopefully grab aggro of the enemies.

Equipment for Dragon’s Dogma 2 Magick Archer Build

By the time you unlock the Magick Archer Vocation you have likely traveled most of the map in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You will be far past the Beginner Gear stage and should be able to purchase some of the best Advanced Gear available.

Best Magick Archer Advanced Gear

In general, the best advanced gear in the game comes from the vendors rather than from monster drops. This makes finding most weapons and armor fairly straightforward. However, it can cost quite a bit for you to fully outfit your Arisen and main Pawn.

Note that the Charming Corset is the best advanced piece of body armor for any vocation, but you can only acquire it once by turning in 150 Seeker’s Tokens at the Vocation Guild. Also, the stat difference on Cloaks is negligible, so you can feel free to choose whatever you think looks best on your character.

Finally, don’t forget to upgrade and enhance your items in order to improve their damage dealing abilities and levels of protection.
