How to start and unlock the “NODE.OVRD.AVALON” mission? – European Dead Zone (EDZ), The Gulch landing zone puzzle

Start the “NODE.OVRD.AVALON” quest by going to European Dead Zone (EDZ) on Earth and the Gulch landing zone. Once you arrive, there will be five cubes you must touch to collect. You will be granted a 30-second buff Access Code 53…. This is the beginning of the series of missions required to get Destiny 2 Vexcalibur Exotic Glaive.

You have 30 seconds per cube, so you must be quick. The cube locations are shown below in the pictures below:

The first cube is near the entrance of the landing zone in the Gulch, up a hill with a Cabal add spawn.

Clear this and make your way to the right, jump off the ledge and float down to the second cube.

Nextly, hop on your speed and zoom to an open area to the northeast/centre for Cube 3.

Hop back on the speeder and go slightly left to a line of trees for Cube 4.

Now, turn to the right and zoom up the road, where you will see an orange sign cut in half. For this one, you can either use the Strand subclass to jump up on it or the rights nearby to jump and float on top.

Get on your speed and go down the road back in your original direction. You will reach a route with elevation, hop off about halfway up and climb the rock wall. There will be a series of trees and a brush with the last cube.

This will open a massive rift in the sky, starting a new quest underneath the cave. Once inside the cave, you will receive a quest “NODE.OVRD.AVALON”, and now you will need to investigate a Vex network node in the EDZ that has been overwritten with a single word: AVALON.

How to complete the “NODE.OVRD.AVALON” quest?

You can complete the “NODE.OVRD.AVALON” quest by following all steps described below and, ultimately, get the Destiny 2 Vexcalibur Exotic Glaive. Firstly, you will encounter a room requiring you to go to the back. Proceed ahead and duck on the bottom left, where a time-gated opening allows you to the next area.

Once in the back room, you will see a massive area with flowing, damaging white electricity. There is a tiny slit that you need to pass through.

How to solve all access codes during the “NODE.OVRD.AVALON” quest in Destiny 2?

This will drop you into an area with a new puzzle mechanic where you must solve three different access code solutions. Rally at the flag, then look to your left and jump on the platform. Squeeze through the platform, jump to another, and then a main platform with many enemies.

The centre of this room has a system of symbols spawning randomly. Your priority is to find the symbol tower that tells you the order. The initial symbol wall is to the right of the centre area.

Similarly to the campaign quest, you must shoot the symbol one at a time. Let them respawn another random set and shoot the next below on the tower until it’s completed. If you mess up, check the tower because it will randomly reset. And you will have to clear enemies while this is happening, to make it quite tricky.

After you solve the first access code puzzle, another symbol will spawn near the back left of the centre platform. If you get lost, return to the room’s entrance, head beyond the centre platform, and just on the left, you will see a Hobgoblin stand and a massive portal object. The symbols are below the Hobgoblin stand.

Access Code 3 – First room

Now turn around on the opposite side, where you will find the symbol tower for access code three just below the Hobgoblin platform.

In the next stage, advance the quest requiring you to kill some Vex along with a mini-boss. Use your best add-clear weapons and builds; this shouldn’t be a problem. Head through the centre of the room while clearing adds while watching out for the massive double turrets.

This room mimics the previous requiring three more access code solutions.

The second symbol tower is more towards the back of the room on the opposite side of the first wedge in-between tower platforms out of sight.

Access code 3 – Second room

This one is pretty tricky, it’s centre of the room, just below a ramp leading up to the back of the room. On the left side, if you were looking forward as you enter the room, the symbols are tucked below the ramp.

Complete the puzzle, kill the Vex, and you are on to the next step. Make your way forward up various ramps killing Vex and taking out Digital Variant Neutralizer Mini-boss. This opens up the way for a series of platforming jumps. Bungie loves their jumping puzzles. You will make your way around the left side of a giant cube. Jump your way up and over and climb in the centre and squeeze through to the next area.

“NODE.OVRD.AVALON” quest – Explore the Vex Network

On the path to getting the Vexcalibur Exotic Glaive, your next step will be “exploring the Vex Network.” You’ll encounter a triangle area with cubs that enter as mini blockers. Move through and jump up and over the electrical area, making your way out to a wide view and a small ledge to the left.

Your objective is to scale the wall and jump to the cube below in this picture.

Once you do, head straight where you see an odd-angle wall, which might be impossible to scale. To the left is a small timed opening you have to take.

Time the blocks from knocking you off, making your way through while crouched. Jump to the next platform and rally up at the flag. And move to the platform to be launched into the Corrupted Data Management Area.

“NODE.OVRD.AVALON” quest – Corrupted Data Management Area

Corrupted Data Management Area

The Corrupted Data Management Area is the first boss encounter. The system acts similarly to the gambit. Destroy enemies and collect data and return to the centre after collecting eight. Once this is done, you wait in the centre as the time expires, and it wipes and clears the area. Remember, this is a timed phase, so be quick. You will receive a countdown at 10 seconds warning you to enter the centre. Also, use the interact key to deposit. It’s not automatically done.

Once done, rinse and repeat but this time ten within 48 seconds. After two times, this will spawn the boss Data Nullifier. This boss has two phases, so expect to do the gambit mechanic another series of times. Unlock and phase him quickly.

The following two phases are 10 and 12, making the last one the most difficult, so save supers and heavy ammo if you have trouble with add-clear. Now that it’s dead, look for a slim opening and a red background to head to the next area for the final boss fight.

“NODE.OVRD.AVALON” quest – Enter the Node Core

In the next step of the “NODE.OVRD.AVALON” quest, you need to enter the Node Core.

Jump down and hug the wall to the left. Make your way along a series of jumps outside the outer wall. Once you make your way forward, you will be sent flying to another area and have to scale down some jumps one at a time.

Destiny 2 - NODE.OVRD.AVALON - Gated Wall
Gated Wall

Nextly, you will encounter what seems like an impossible wall. Jump around it to proceed to the next area. Follow the route, which involves some jumping puzzles and enemies. You will make your way to the final boss room, Retroute Dispatch.

“NODE.OVRD.AVALON” quest – Final Boss Brakion

Make sure to rally at the flag, and you will encounter Brakion, the final boss.

Destiny 2 - NODE.OVRD.AVALON quest - Final Boss Brakion

The first phase has a set of adds and boss health. You need to take the first 1/3 chunk of health, and then it despawns. Next, clear the adds, a portal in the middle opens up you need to travel through.

“NODE.OVRD.AVALON” quest – Override Brakion’s Access Gate Puzzle

The last step before getting the Vexcalibur Exotic Glaive in Destiny 2 will be to override Brakion’s Access Gate by solving the puzzle cubes by shooting them like in previous rooms. The centre has the cubes that need to be shoot. To the right is the symbol tower, but this time it’s underneath a glass floor, and you’ll need to look down. Again, look towards the room as if you just entered, move about halfway through and look below through the glass.

Destiny 2 - How to override Brakion's Access Gate - Boss Fight
How to override Brakion’s Access Gate – Boss Fight

Now the tricky part. During this phase, you will only have 30 seconds to damage the boss. Meaning, use your super and heavy ammo to nuke it down. I used my Solar Titan in the images shown, in combination with Witherhorde, Henzen Vengeance Rocket Launcher for a quick burst. My friend used a Strand Warlock super, and it wasn’t an issue. So, be prepared for more puzzles if you don’t burst it down. If this is the case, the other symbol tower could be on the other side.

Assuming you take another 1/3 of the boss’s health in 30 seconds, you will move to the last phase of this epic quest. Luckily the quest will read “Defeat Brakion,” with no additional puzzles. The boss will do massive damage and splash damage on the ground. I hide behind the cubes and the Witherhoard rocket while using my non-special weapon sparingly. Once you destroy the boss, the next phase will be “prepare for Network Explusion.” Grab the weapon and return to the War Table at Helm.

Collect your new Vexcalibur Glavie and complete the quest!

Vexcalibur Authorization Override quest.

This Glavie will come with additional exotic missions to optimize it further. But as of the making of this guide, it’s “time-gated.” Thus we need to wait another week before returning and updating and adding more details. After completion, you will receive a quest “Vexcalibur Authorization Override.” This quest will require Vex kills with Vexcailbur.

The most accessible spot is on the moon via Garden of Salvation Raid, which you can do solo in the introductory part to get kills quickly.

Why you should get Vexcalibur Exotic Glaive

You should get Vexcalibur Exotic Glaive because of its unique perk and its effectiveness with many Void builds. For example, it works excellent with exotics such as Synthoceps, Wormgod Caress and Necrotic Grips. The weapon quest is also a pinnacle activity, so completing it will help your guardian progress and get pinnacle gear faster.

  • When you block, the weapon makes a void overshield for everyone in your group.
  • It has a unique shot pattern similar to a shotgun but with more range
  • Works with all exotic that affect melee damage
  • Great void synergy with the void subclass
  • Helps with the exotic mission to get the weekly pinnacle for it since it opens blocked doors

How to get Vexcalibur Catalyst?

You can get one Vexcalibur Catalyst during the following three weeks of Destiny 2 season 20. As mentioned above, the progress for it is “time-gated”. Follow the weapon’s mission steps after unlocking it, and each week new catalyst will be available to unlock. The weapon has three catalysts; when all are unlocked, they will make Vexcalibur extremely strong. Additionally, this system was introduced during season 19 with the Revision Zero Exotic.
