Destiny 2 Solar Titan PvE Build

Welcome to our Destiny 2 Solar Titan PvE Build Guide!  Solar Titan wields this powerful Light, a subclass that harnesses the power of the sun. Just like any subclass in Destiny 2, Solar will have skills, super, aspects and fragments to further strengthen the guardian’s power. Each class will use Solar differently.

Last Updated March 3, 2023, for Lightfall Expansion and Season 20, Season of Defiance.  This build is currently work in progress with updates happening daily.  Additionally, Destiny 2 has gone through a major change with their modding system.  Making mods much easier and simpler to understand but taking some of the old metas and either eliminating them or making them relevantly the same.  For instance, the “well” mods most players have been accustomed to have been completely eliminated and really the only system and combination are based of orbs of power. The mod loadout you see today will change over time as we become accustomed to new and shifting meta in Destiny 2 Lightfall.  This loadout has been tested and works, so check back frequently as we will be updating these builds throughout the season and expansion.

Cons

Has the potential to hit crazy damage numbers Firewalker is a pain to keep up
Easy to generate armor charges Less survivable than certain solar builds
Uses weapons and abilities equally
Useful in almost all content

Solar Titan Playstyle

With the mod system, Bungie has homogenized a lot of the ways subclasses work with our armor mods. This build is based around using our abilities to generate armor charges to buff our weapons, especially our Throwing Hammer. There will never be a time when we don’t have an Armor Charge.

The Solar Titan’s strength’s come out with its hard-hitting abilities and its survivability. Roaring Flames increases the damage we deal with our abilities; all the while, our armor charges are buffing our solar weapons damage as well.

If we see an orb of power, we want to pick it up. This will give us armor charge, making our Solar Weapons hit even harder. Killing enemies with our Solar Weapons and Solar Melees generates orbs of power. Throwing Hammer does not go away unless you fail to pick it back up; therefore, we have the capacity to almost infinitely generate orbs of power so long as their are minor enemies around.

Author’s Note: The new Loadout and Mod system are very new. So it stands to reason, that there are combinations that haven’t been tested yet. These builds are very much a Work in Progress but have been tested and are effective. They will almost certainly be updated as time goes on. Additionally, the new Artifact system is currently not supported on our build templates so I have listed important Artifact mods to take below until we are able to update our build template.

Important Artifact Mods:

  • Overload Bow or Overload Auto/SMG: Solar lacks intrinsic way to counter Overload Champions so this will be needed for certain content.
  • Authorized Mods: Solar: This makes all of our Solar Mods much cheaper to apply.
  • Solar Surge: Makes keeping up our armor charges much easier.

Abilities

Some abilities, aspects and fragments need to be unlocked before use. In order to do that, Destiny 2 players need to visit Ikora in the Tower and do the related quest or purchase them from her. Lastly, if you bought new aspects and fragments don’t forget to “meditate”. Simply click the “meditate” option on the table next to Ikora.

Solar Buffs & Debuffs

Lightfall Expansion saw a revamp of core buffs and debuff for each class.

  • Firesprite (New!)
    • Firesprites are created by a suite of new and existing Solar Fragments, and grant grenade energy on pickup.
  • Ember of Mercy (New!)
    • When you revive an ally, you and other nearby allies gain Restoration. Picking up a Firesprite grants Restoration.
  • Ember of Resolve (New!)
    • Solar grenade final blows Cure you.
  • Ember of Tempering
    • Now creates a Firesprite on Solar weapon kills while active, in addition to its original effects.
  • Ember of Combustion
    • Now creates a Firesprite on Solar Super defeats, in addition to its original effects.
  • Ember of Searing
    • Now creates a Firesprite when defeating Scorched targets, in addition to its original effects.

Hammer of Sol

Rally Barricade

Catapult Lift

Solar Grenade

Throwing Hammer
Hammer of Sol (Super Ability): Summon a flaming hammer and wreak destruction down upon your enemies. [Light Attack] : Throw your hammer at foes. Upon impact, your hammers shatter into explosive molten shards. A great all around roaming super, great for clearing minor combatants or for doing a decent amount of damage to a boss. Use this during a situation when you need to clear a space quickly or when you are about to die.
Rally Barricade (Class Ability): Create a small barrier that you can peek over while aiming down sights and that increases weapon reload speed, stability, and range when you stand behind it. Throw this down at the rally point for your damage phases. It will help your team reload faster and offers a modicum of protection.
Catapult Lift (Movement Ability): Jump while airborne to activate Lift and launch into the air with a strong initial burst of momentum. This really comes down to personal preference, so feel free to flex another lift if you prefer it.
Solar Grenade (Grenade): A grenade that creates a flare of Solar Light that continuously damages and scorches targets trapped inside. I like Solar Grenades for this build as they linger and just can cause a lot of damage.
Throwing Hammer (Melee): Throw a hammer from a distance. Picking up a thrown hammer fully recharges your melee ability. If the hammer struck a target, picking it up grants cure. A ranged ability that you can instantly recharge by picking it up off the ground. Find yourself low on health, throw it at an add to spawn a sunspot for healing. Can also be spammed to do decent damage to bulkier targets. Just a great damage and survivability tool.

Aspects

Roaring Flames

Sol Invictus
Roaring Flames: Final blows with [Solar] Solar abilities or ignitions increase the damage of your Solar abilities. Stacks 3 times. Getting kills with our Solar abilities makes our solar abilities do more damage. This pairs really well with our throwing hammers as we can just pick them back up and use them again. It stacks up to three times making our throwing hammers do absolutely amazing damage even with no other buffs.
Sol Invictus: Solar ability final blows, Hammer of Sol impacts, and defeating scorched targets creates Sunspots. Your abilities regenerate faster, and your Super drains more slowly while standing in a Sunspot. Sunspots apply scorch and deal damage to targets inside. Entering a Sunspot applies restoration. Solar ability final blows spawn sunspots. Sunspots give us restoration and make our abilities recharge faster. Again this pairs super well with our throwing hammers as we can get those back almost instantly. This paired with Roaring Flames means survival and damage become better at the same time with no trade off.

Fragments

Ember of Torches

Ember of Char

Ember of Wonder

Ember of Searing
Ember of Torches: Powered melee attacks against combatants make you and nearby allies radiant. We are going to be killing lots of enemies with our powered melee (Throwing Hammers), meaning we are going to making ourselves and allies radiant almost constantly.
Ember of Char: Your Solar ignitions spread scorch to affected targets. Spread the love of scorch to as many enemies as you can.
Ember of Wonder: Rapidly defeating multiple targets with Solar ignitions generates an Orb of Power. This grants us another way of generating armor charge.
Ember of Searing: Defeating scorched targets grants melee energy and creates a Firesprite. Our grenades sear our enemies and can help us get our melee back on those rare occasions we lose our hammer.

Gear

Kinetic Weapons

What we use here isn’t super important to our build, so you can be flexible. That being said there are obvious standouts in the Kinetic Slot.

Recommended Kinetic WeaponsSuggested Perk 1Suggested Perk 2

Witherhoard

Primeval's Torment

Break the Bank

Osteo Striga

Screaming Swarm

Toxic Overload

Thoughtless

Rapid Hit

Frenzy
Witherhoard: Obtained from the Monument to Lost Lights. The Witherhoard is still one of the best weapons in Destiny 2. Always a solid choice. This weapon really shines when it has its catalyst unlocked, which can be a bit of a grind.
Osteo Striga: Obtained from completing the "Witch Queen" expansion main campaign. It must be crafted at the Enclave. A great exotic primary to utilize in case you are using a special weapon in your energy slot.
Thoughtless: Previously obtained from the Season of the Risen, it is now sometimes sold by Banshee-44 or Xur. A fantastic sniper to use in most situations.
Disparity: Previously obtained from the Season of the Seraph, it is now sometimes sold by Banshee-44 or Xur. An excellent legendary pulse that works well in most situations.

Energy Weapons

We want to exclusively use Solar Weapons here to feed into our build both to generate orbs and get a nice damage boost.

Auto-Loading Holster

Frenzy
CALUS Mini-Tool: Previously obtained from the Season of the Haunted, it is now sometimes sold by Banshee-44 or Xur. One of the better primaries in the game. Pairs excellently with Witherhoard and works ridiculously well with this build.
Ammit AR2: Obtained from random world drops. Can also be obtained by completing the Foundry Resonance quest at the Artifact at the Enclave. A great overall weapon that is obtained easily and at the same time as the Taipan-4FR. Pairs well with our solar build as well. This is a craftable weapon.
Explosive Personality: Previously obtained from the Season of the Risen, it is now sometimes sold by Banshee-44 or Xur. A fantastic Waveframe Grenade Launcher that allows for easy kills of large groups of enemies.

Heavy Weapons

When it comes to Heavy Weapons, Solar gets to pick from some of the best in the game.

Recommended Heavy WeaponsSuggested Perk 1Suggested Perk 2

Hezen Vengeance

Auto-Loading Holster

Vorpal Weapon

Cataclysmic

Fourth Time's the Charm

Bait and Switch

Gjallarhorn

Pack Hunter

Wolfpack Rounds
Hezen Vengeance: Obtained from the Vault of Glass raid. An excellent solar rocket with excellent burst damage potential.
Cataclysmic: Obtained from Vow of the Disciple raid. One of the better damaging weapons in the game, even after the nerf to Linear Fusion Rifles. This is a craftable weapon.
Gjallarhorn: Obtained from the "And Out Fly the Wolves" exotic mission from the 30th Anniversary Pack. A great heavy weapon that does massive damage and if you get the catalyst done will also buff your allies rockets as well.

Exotic Armor

Exotic ArmorExotic Perk

The Path of Burning Steps

Firewalker
The Path of Burning Steps : Obtained from completing Lost Sectors Solo on Legend or Master Difficulty during Leg Exotic Armor focus days. This exotic gives our solar weapons even more damage the more stacks we get of Firewalker. The only downside is that it only last 10 seconds and is hard to keep up in low enemy density fights.

[caption id="attachment_30844" align="aligncenter" width="486"]Resilience Tier 8 Lightfall Destiny 2 Resilience Tier 8 Lightfall Destiny 2[/caption] Resilience Changes: The resilience stat was heavily nerfed in Lightfall expanse and now only receives 30% damage reduction at 100 stat.  Outside of Titan builds, your goal is tier 8 (80 stats) to get good damage reduction without wasted stats.

Important Mods

Destiny 2 Lightfall Class Mods
Destiny 2 Lightfall Class Mods

Armor Modification Change: these mods will seem foreign to returning players with Lightfall changing the entire system.  The system you build around now is only orbs of power.  You also see an armor charge mechanic and some of the previous mechanics for generating orbs of power and previously used mods.  This system is evolving, and we will continue to make changes as we gain a better understanding of the new mod system. Here’s a list of all the current armor mods.

Artifice Armor Change: provides an extra +3 to whatever stat you want this should help you reach these stat goals.

Artifact Change: The artifact no longer provides mods instead it reduces the costs of some of the mods and provides passives as you level up and unlock them.  Season 20 Artifact.

If you do not have the energy for the suggested mods, adjust and prioritize your main stat-boosting mod and anything that generates orbs, followed by something that consumes orbs of power and generates armor stacks.
