How to Get Bastion of Solace in Avowed?
To get the Bastion of Solace in Avowed you must play through the main story quest Our Dreams Divide Us Still in the fourth region of Galawain’s Tusks. This will bring you to Solace Keep where you can meet Komendant Mihala and Councilor Kostya. Kostya has been sent to release the sluice gates and lower the level of lava threatening the city. However, when Mihala hasn’t heard from him, she asks you to go into the Lave Tubes to check on his progress.
Head down into the Forge at Solace Keep and through the entrance to the Lava Tubes. The path through this area is fairly straightforward and at the end of it, you will encounter Kostya. To save the keep you will have to attack and kill Kostya.
Afterward, head back and speak to Mihala at the top of the stairs leading to the forge. She will thank you for your help, and give you the Bastion of Solace as a reward.
How to Use Bastion of Solace in Avowed?
The best way to use the Bastion of Solace shield in Avowed is by equipping it to a Fighter build in combination with a one-handed weapon. Even if you are choosing to primarily use a two-handed weapon in combat, a shield and sword as a second set is a good idea. This will give you better versatility in combat, and let you switch to something more defensive when needed.
Moreover, you can do the same for a Wizard or Rogue in Avowed. There are no limits on the types of weapons you can equip based on skill tree or class. Therefore, even a spellcasting Wizard could equip the Bastion of Solace shield as off-hand protection on your second weapon set.
