The First Descendant: Best Tamer Build Guide

Best Tamer Build Guide in The First Descendant

The Tamer is a rare machine gun weapon in The First Descendant that you can get from loot drops rather than collecting materials to craft it. Currently, the Tamer has some of the best DPS in the game if you exclude the heavy-hitting launchers. However, shooting and aiming with this gun will drastically slow down your speed. Therefore, you need to ensure your Descendant has a survivable build that can take some hits.

All Tamer features in The First Descendant:

  • Weapon Type: Rare Machine Gun
  • Special Ability: None
  • Pros: Current highest DPS machine gun in the game, uses general rounds ammo that is each to find
  • Cons: Drastically slows down your move speed while aiming and/or shooting
  • Best Characters: Kyle, Ajax, Gley, Jaber, Bunny
  • Best Mods: Rifling Reinforcement, Better Concentration, and Better Insight

How to Get Tamer in The First Descendant

How to Get Tamer in The First Descendant

To get the Tamer in The First Descendant you will need to grind an Agna Desert zone mission called the Abandoned Reconstruction Site in the Remnant area. The Agna Desert is the fifth overworld zone in the game, and you must play through the main story campaign to unlock access to it. If you are new to the game, and playing with your first character, you will need to fully advance your first Descendant to Level 40 and beat the Dead Bride before you reach it.

The best spot to farm the Tamer in The First Descendant are:

  • Agna Desert zone, Remnant area, Abandoned Reconstruction Site

Furthermore, the Tamer is a rare machine gun that you can only get through random drops. Consequently, you cannot craft it at the Research Institute with Anais.

Best Modules for Tamer in The First Descendant

Rifling Reinforcement, Better Concentration, and Better Insight are the best weapon mods for the Tamer machine gun. You want to balance critical hit chance with critical hit damage alongside firearm damage for boss kills. Additionally, Rapid Fire Insight will increase damage and early game standard mods are powerful when leveled. We forgo a lot of reload mods because, with 100 rounds, you should be reloading during boss mechanics and not frequently, like the Thunder Cage Submachine gun.

Best Weapon Stats for Tamer in The First Descendant

Best Weapon Stats Traits for Tamer in The First Descendant

Here are the best weapon stats for Tamer in The First Descendant:

  • Firearm Critical Hit Rate
  • Firearm Critical Hit Damage
  • Bonus Firearm ATK (vs. Colossus)
  • Weak Point Damage

Your optional trait is Bonus FIrearm ATK vs a specific boss type. This can be re-rolled to a standard bonus or elemental if you play one specific descendant in boss fights. However, look for Firearm Critical Hit Rate and Critical Hit damage as your two priorities with Weak Point damage being third.

In the First Descendant, weapon stats are randomly generated for all weapons when they are picked up as loot or picked up after crafting. You can change (or re-roll) them through the Weapon Readjustment system. Each weapon has four random traits or stats that can be rerolled to find the ideal trait. These regenerated traits are also random and so is their quality. Therefore, expect to spend a lot of materials to min-max the perfect roll.

How to Upgrade Tamer

The First Descendant provides several different avenues for upgrading and improving your weapons by using their repair station Workbench. The Workbench is located in the same general area as Anais and weapons seller Deslin on the west side of Albion.

Weapon Transmission

The First Descendant How to Upgrade Ultimate Thunder Cage with Weapon Level Transmission

When you pick up a dropped weapon in The First Descendant it will have a level that corresponds with the level of the zone it generated in. However, you can easily bring it up to your current weapon level by using the Weapon Transmission mechanic at the Workbench.

Finally, you will need to reach Mastery Rank 3.

To level up Tamer in The First Descendant, you will need:

  • Phase Exchanger
    • 50 Superalloy
    • 2,500 credits/gold
    • 2:30 of research time

To get Superalloy in the First Descendant, you will need to dismantle many weapons you don’t want by junking them. This breaks down the weapon into crafting materials you can use to make other items. Consequently, we highly recommend breaking down all of your excess weapons instead of selling them. Credits are easier to earn just by playing the game and completing missions.

Weapon Readjustment

Tamer Weapon Readjustment - The First Descendant

In The First Descendant, the Weapon Readjustment mechanic allows you to use the Workbench to re-roll your weapon stats. Moreover, you can re-roll all of your stats at once, or lock individual stats you like and only re-roll the ones you want to change.

Finally, you will need to reach Master Rank 4 in order to unlock Weapon Readjustment at the Workbench.

To change Tamer stats in The First Descendant, you will need:

  • Adjustment Control Axis x4
    • 340 Superalloy
    • 12,000 credits/gold
    • 15:00 of research time

How To Use Tamer

How To Use Tamer in the First Descendant

The best way to use the Tamer is weak point damage in Void Intercept boss fights. With 100 rounds in a magazine, the Tamer can constantly hold down the trigger and do massive critical hit damage, even on a non-max level character. You don’t want to constantly reload the Tamer also, and look for times you’re not targeted to hold down the trigger and ramp up damage.

The Tamer uses general rounds, thus looking for white bricks on the ground for ammunition. Enzo is a great Descendant because he can drop a supply drone with ammunition for you and your party, constantly flooding you with ammo. Don’t bring a secondary weapon with general rounds (Thunder Cage). Bring Special or high-impact rounds, sniper rifles, or scout rifles as backup weapons to deal with bosses. You can also bring a Grenade Launcher to add clear if they aren’t dealt with.

Another tip using the Tamer is get to a high point in the boss fighter where you can see weak points. Use the Ecive (tab on PC) control to show weak points in blue or yellow. Using a high point while not targeted gives you more options and flanks the boss while strafing to avoid damage.
