However, if you decide to go the Evil Wizard path, various cut scenes and dialogue will play differently in some cases. So if you plan on having multiple playthroughs, you should try Dark Wizard path in one of them.
In Hogwarts Legacy, you can’t become an actual villain, either. The game is designed to put the player on a path to saving the world; your character is the only one who can accomplish it.

The Crucio Curse
In Hogwarts Legacy, the Crucio Curse is a powerful tool of dark arts that causes most enemies to writhe in pain as they take damage over time. Also, curses the victim – and cursed enemies take extra damage. It is also called the Torture Curse, and the Ministry of Magic officially forbids it as one of the three Unforgivable Curses.
To unlock and learn the Crucio Curse, you must complete In the Shadow of the study quest. The questline leading to it starts after Sebasitians personal quest and the visit to his family’s home.
How to unlock the Crucio Spell?
You can unlock it during the In the Shadow of the Study Quest.
- Location: Outside of Slytherin Common Room
- Level Requirement: Level 16
- Requirement: Completed quests
- In the Shadow of the Bloodline
- In the Shadow of the study (Unlocks: Unforgivable Curse: Crucio)
- During the quest, you need to unlock three doors. Look at the symbols on the door, and then repeat the symbols on the snake mechanism.
- Important! In the end, during the dialogue, agree to learn the curse, you don’t need to cast it if you don’t want to.

After you unlock the Crucio spell, you can use it in combat. The curse has a long cooldown, but it is one of the most robust spells in the game, especially if you spend additional talent points to power it further.
