Avowed Character Creation Explained
In Avowed your character will be known as the ‘Envoy’, the protagonist who was sent by the Emperor of the Aedyr Empire to discover the origins of a mysterious plague infecting the inhabitants. Your character will generally be referred to by NPCs in dialogue by your title, rather than name. Consequently, this allows you to create a character all of your own making. Although there are only two races to choose from in Avowed, there are many other choices, sliders, and effects you can use to make a character your own.
These are all of the main character creation choices in Avowed:
- Race/Body Type
- Head & Hair
- Godlike Features
- Facial Features
- Extras
- Background
- Attributes
- Finalization
Avowed Character Creation Races/Body Type

There are only two race choices in Avowed, which is due to the origin of your character from the Aedyr Empire. Aedyr is the alliance of human and elven kingdoms after centuries of fighting. Consequently, you can only choose between the two. The available race and sex choices in Avowed are:
- Human Female
- Human Male
- Elven Female
- Elven Male
Additionally, in this same section, you can also modify their skin color by moving over to the Skin Tone tab at the top of the screen. In this tab, you can choose between several preset colors, or make your own using Tone and Temperature sliders.
Avowd Godlike Facial Features

With in the Head & Hair tab the most important and visually striking choice you will need to make is what godlike facial and hair features your character will have. In Avowed, godlike features are unique physical mutations (and abilities) that are a manifestation of the god or goddess that has touched you before birth. Moreover, you can choose separate godlike features for both your face and hair.
Additionally, you can choose to toggle the godlike features on and off. This is an option based on your own personal preference. If you don’t like how the godlike features markings look, then you can choose to hide them on your character.
However, hiding them from view means that only YOU can’t see them. You will still have to choose godlike features for your character and NPCs will still be able to see them in the game and will react accordingly. Being godlike is an innate part of your protagonist character and will play a strong role in the story of Avowed, as well as grant you special abilities for combat.

---|---|
Arcane Scholar | After graduating with honors from Bragganhyl Academy, you published a treatise on soul lineages that threatened the legitimacy and drew the ire of a local lord. When he had you arrested, the Emperor intervened and recruited you into the archives of the imperial court. Your mind is a bottomless well of occult knowledge, legal precedent, historical observation, and poetry. You have forgotten more than most people ever learn. |
Court Augur | When your village’s crops failed, your strange insights and unsettling manner earned your neighbors’ suspicions. You foresaw the torches and pitchforks and fled to Highcrown, where the Emperor recognized your talents and elevated you from back alley fortune teller to his personal mystic. You have learned to wield power from the shadows; all it takes is a dash of influence and a pinch of deception. |
Noble Scion | You were born to a noble house of great influence, middling wealth, and questionable morals. When scandals and succession disputes saw your family cast down, you threw yourself on the Emperor’s mercy, and he shielded you. Canny yet refined, you have become a formidable force at court and an invaluable ally to the Emperor. |
Vanguard Scout | Born to humble beginnings and driven to desperation by famine, your life was destined to end on the executioner’s block until the Emperor spared you. More at ease in wilderness than at court, your cleverness and observant nature has made you one of the Emperor’s most trusted operatives. Whether tracking prey or spying on enemies, your skills are put to work both inside and outside of the throne room. |
War Hero | You distinguished yourself on the field of battle fighting a violent Skaenite uprising. The Emperor honored you with a place among the elite Tall Grass Spearmen. Some of your scars are more obvious than others, but you wear them with pride. The Emperor values your loyalty, your grit, and your martial prowess. |
