DD2 - Best Warrior Build Advanced Vocation (Class) - Dragon's Dogma 2

Best Warrior Build – Advanced Vocation (Class)

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, the Warrior is an offensive tank vocation (class) using Two-Handed weapons and creating area damage. The Warrior’s ability to do great damage while holding aggro or gaining enemies’ attention makes it unique. Think of the Warrior as an upgraded Fighter and something you can progress to while you level in DD2. The downside to playing this class is its speed. Unlike the Thief or Mystic Spearhand, the Warrior has long animations and feels slow overall.

However, the Warrior makes a tremendous hybrid style with players wanting to use the Advanced Vocation as their Arisen character or a main pawn. We have crafted this build into an offensive character entirely, with flex options for tanking specifically. The warrior draws aggro passively, but you can use a skill to ensure you are attacked. With enormous area damage and crowd control, a great party member is a Pawn or Arisen character.

Warrior Build Features

DD2 Warrior Gameplay

Your role as the Warrior in any party is to gain enemies’ attention and deal area-based damage. The Warrior and Fighter are sometimes incompatible, as both attempt to draw aggro with the enemy. We suggest using either or picking the Warrior if you want to provide more damage at the expense of long animation times.

The following list presents all the essential Warrior Build Mechanics and Features in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • Skills: Goring Lunge, Rending Sweep, Surging Strike, Tidal Fury
  • Augmentations: Dominance, Vitality
  • Best Pawns: Mage (main pawn), Sorcerer, Thief
  • Primary Stat: Strength
  • Weapons: Two-Handed
  • Armor: Plate (heavy)
  • Rings: Vehemence, Momentum
  • Race: Human

Weapon Skills

DD2 - Best Warrior Weapon Skills - Dragon's Dogma 2 Build

Goring Lunge, Rending Sweep, Surging Strike, and Tidal Fury are the best skills for the Warrior Advanced Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Goring Lunge acts as your gap closer or opens an attack with crowd control. Rending Sweep is a massive area-based damage skill, and Surging Strike is helpful when targets are knocked down or dazed. Tidal Fury provides a counterattack option for more defensive-minded characters.

The following list presents the best Dragon’s Dogma 2 Warrior Build Advanced Vocation (Class) Weapon Skills:

  • Goring Lunge (Ravening Lunge): gap closer
  • Rending Sweep (Razing Sweep): area damage
  • Surging Strike (Diluvian Strike): attacks weaken targets
  • Tidal Fury (Tidal Wraith): Counterattack skill

Goring Lunge (Ravening Lunge)

DD2 Warrior Ravening Lunge Skill - for Dragon's Dogma 2 Build

The Goring Lunge skill is a powerful gap closer that charges forward and spears an enemy. You need to actively cancel the skill for it to stop, as the distance is massive. Ravening Lunge skill is an advanced form of Goring Lunge that consumes less Stamina while charging forth. You will want to wait until your stamina is full before using this skill and canceling it immediately when landing a blow. Remember, this will take some practice, and it’s best to aim directly at a target instead of steering.

Goring Lunge – Charges forward, running targets through with the blade. Pressing the activation button again stabs forward. Striking with momentum impales foes, and crashing them into walls inflicts more harm.

Rending Sweep (Razing Sweep)

DD2 - Warrior Razing Sweep Skill - Dragon's Dogma 2 Builds

The rending sweep skill is your area-based damage ability and can be charged for more damage. What makes it helpful is the 360-degree radius; when enemies are hit, they are staggered. This skill hits both legs on large bosses, giving it extra utility. The Razing Sweep skill is an advanced form of Rending Sweep that inflicts more significant harm when fully charged. However, the Rending Sweep will take a long time to charge before reaching full power, so position is essential. You will see and hear a sound that indicates its full charge, which you can let go of the button to activate.

Rending Sweep – Spins the blade with enough force to cut down foes in all directions. It can be charged before unleashing.

Taunt Alternative for Warrior Vocation
DD2 - Warrior Roar Skill for Dragon's Dogma 2 Build

Players wanting to play a proper “tank” class should consider swapping Roar for Rending Sweep. This skill shouts in all directions, grabbing the enemy’s attention. Your AoE damage will hold aggro and keep monsters attacking you rather than friendly allies.

Surging Strike (Diluvian Strike)

DD2 Warrior Surging Strike Skill - Dragon's Dogma 2 Build

The Surging Strike skill is a mid-air jump type of damage skill that does more damage to targets below the user. A combo to use with this skill for single target damage is pairing Surging Strike with Barge (right mouse). Barge slightly bashes the target, opening you to launch into a Surging Strike and possibly one-shotting a trash mob. However, this skill becomes less effective on bosses and can be swapped out. The skill Diluvian Stirke is an advanced form of Surging Strike that inflicts greater harm.

Surging Strike – Leaps up and plunges down the blade using the full force of the user’s weight. Deals further strike smaller, flinching targets. Employable while jumping. More powerful when used from a height.

Alternative Skill – Heavenward Sunder
DD2 - Warrior Heavenward Sunder Skill - Dragon's Dogma 2 Builds

Some players might not find Surging Strike effective, even with the Barge combination. Moreover, Skyward Sunder has a limited upward range. In that case, consider using Skyward SUnder (Heavenward Sunder). Skyward Sunder uses a charge mechanic and is helpful on bosses and airborne enemies. Swap to this if you can’t deal with bosses or air enemies.

Tidal Fury (Tidal Wraith)

DD2 - Warrior Tidal Fury Skill - Dragon's Dogma 2 Build

The Tidal Fury skill delivers a timed counterattack and a block when pressed. The Fighter vocation can block with a shield, and Tidal Fury is your counter to this, though it comes later in your vocation level. Moreover, you need to hold a button down and press it to activate, but it’s worthing having for damage reduction. Moreover, it aids in crowd control and is even helpful against bosses. The Tidal Wrath skill is an advanced form of Tidal Fury that eases the counterattack’s timing, extending the duration it can be activated.

Tidal Fury – Delivers a momentous counterattack if the user is struck at the moment of activation. Can guard against targets’ strikes even should the counterattack fail.

Core Skills

DD2 Warrior Core Skills - Dragon's Dogma 2

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Core Skills act as passive perks or basic attacks for your Warrior Class. You have two abilities that do not cost stamina and act as your light and heavy attacks or basic attacks: Mighty Sweep and Stonesplitter. Might Sweep can be charged, doing extra damage, and will alter you when your player turns sliver and you hear a sound. Stonesplier is helpful when enemies are knocked to the ground or off balance. Furthermore, the Barge skill is a soft CC and gives you a one-two-second opening.

You can play the Warrior without skill spam draining your stamina by using Barge in combination with Mighty Sweep. The trick to battlefield control with the Warrior truly is Barge to bash a trash enemy off balance.

Using Core Skills on Warrior Build

The following list presents Core Skills for Warrior Build:

  • Mighty Sweep : Sweeps in a horizontal arc. Holding the activation button turns the attack into a charged slash and makes the user less likely to flinch.
  • Barge: Rushes forward, tackling the target. Though limited in range, it can force the target to flinch. The user is less likely to flinch while it is active.
  • Stonesplitter: Performs a mighty downward slash. Follows up with a powerful successive strike if it connects with a foe who has been knocked off balance.
  • Chain of Blows: Employs the user’s momentum to unleash an additional Mighty Sweep.
  • Breakneck Strike: Enables a charged attack to inflict greater harm by unleashing it the very instant it is fully charged.
  • Bulwark: Reduces damage taken from hostile targets during a charged attack.
  • Repulse: Parries a hostile target’s attack by unleashing a charged attack that can knock the target off balance.

Maister Skills

Dragon's Dogma 2 Warrior Maister Beren

In Dragon’s Dogma 2 you can learn an ultimate ability for your vocation from Maisters once you earn their approval. Acquiring these abilities can often change the way you play your class, and are worth taking the time to earn.

Additionally, there is no set Vocation Rank you are required to have before you can unlock ultimate abilities. However, you must have unlocked the Vocation itself. As an Advanced vocation Warrior can be unlocked early in the game.

The Following Lists presents the Warrior Ultimate Ability and How to Unlock:

  • Maister: Beren
  • Location: Borderwatch Outpost (can immediately meet after tutorial), Moonglow Garden, Beren’s childhood home.
  • Required Quest: ‘Claw Them Into Shape’. You can get this quest from Beren when you meet him at Moonglow Garden. To complete it you will need to collect three swords, find a recruit, and defeat Beren. Then return to Moonglow Garden and help Beren defeat the Cyclops.
  • Quest Timer: Speak to Beren before you do the Feast of Deception main story quest. The border permit pass you receive at the start of the next will grant you passage in to Battahl and you’ll find Beren’s childhood home just down the road inside.
  • Ultimate Ability – Arc of Might: Channels all of the user’s strength into an almighty blow; consumes all of the user’s stamina when activated.

Augmentations

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Augmentations are passive bonuses you can earn by ranking up a vocation (class). Moreover, you can equip augmentations from other vocations if you have Ranked up that class high enough to unlock them. Therefore, it’s crucial to strategize your leveling process to acquire the most effective Augments early on in DD2. For this Warrior build we recommend unlocking augmentations from all the starting classes, as well as Warrior.

The following list presents Augmentations for Warrior Build:

  • Vitality (Warrior Vocation): Increases your maximum Health. Requires Warrior at Vocation Rank 2 to unlock with 300 Discipline.
  • Dominance (Warrior Vocation): Augments your Knockdown Power. Requires Warrior at Vocation Rank 8 to unlock with 3,000 Discipline.
  • Mettle (Fighter Vocation): Augments your physical defense. Requires Fighter at Vocation Rank 2 to unlock with 300 Discipline.
  • Exaltation (Mage Vocation): Increases your stamina speed recovery. Requires Mage at Vocation Rank 9 to unlock with 5,000 Discipline.
  • Gratification (Thief Vocation): You slightly recover health when dealing a killing blow to an enemy. Requires Thief Rank 4 and 900 Discipline.
  • Lethality (Archer Vocation): Increases damage dealt when striking a target’s vitals. Requires Archer at Vocation Rank 8 to unlock with 3,000 Discipline.

Best Pawns for Warrior Build

Dragon's Dogma 2 Mage ability possible heal

The best Pawns to aid your Warrior in combat are a Mage for support and healing, a Sorcerer for area damage and crowd control, and a Thief for boss damage. In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Pawns act as companion allies. Each Arisen (player) will have one main pawn who can pick vocation and skills and two additional support basic vocations.

Below are the best pawns for the Warrior vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • Mage (main pawn) – The Mage main pawn will help support and heal you. Moreover, making the Mage the main pawn allows you to customize their skills vs them using anything at random.
  • Sorcerer – use the sorcerer secondary Pawn for huge area damage regardless of the element.
  • Thief – the Thief vocation is useful for boss support.

Warrior Gameplay Tips and Tricks

As a Warrior in Dragon’s Dogma 2, your main focus is timing and positioning for large channels. You will often need to be either near an enemy, on top of one, or anticipating them coming towards you. Rely heavily on your basic attacks and Barge until you get into a flow of stunning enemies, then use a two-second animation for huge damage. Moreover, the vocation and build can feel slow and weak initially, but you will develop more defensive skills later, increasing survivability and utility dramatically.

Stamina Management

DD2 - Stamina - Dragon's Dogma 2 10 Tips to Know Before Playing

To manage your stamina, only use one to two skills at most during the opening part of the engagement. Usually, this is a charge-in and maybe an area damage skill to follow. From this point, look around and use Barge basic attacks until you find a target on the ground. At that point, attempt to kill them and charge to repeat the process.

Survivability

The problem with survival with your Warrior is that early on, you lack the skill needed to block. Once you obtain Tidal Fury, you will feel like a more damage-producing tank than the Fighter. Until then, you must use positioning, potions, and Mage healing for survival. However, once you unlock this skill, practice active blocking or the advanced version holding it down as you anticipate damage.

Large Monsters

DD2 - Weak Points - Dragon's Dogma 2 10 Tips to Know Before Playing

For boss fights with large monsters, attempt to jump on their back and use Stonesplitter for damage. You can also use your area swings to hit multiple legs simultaneously, hopefully weakening the boss. Moreover, ensure you save 75% or higher stamina before climbing on and aim for the high point when grabbing. This tactic will preserve your stamina until reaching the weak point.

Equipment for Dragon’s Dogma 2 Warrior Build

The best equipment for the Warrior increases your strength and stamina. For Rings, look to increase health early on. While you progress, upgrade gear with raw materials to gain additional stat increases. Even one level that only costs gold can increase your survivability.

Additionally, prioritize weapon purchases over armor for the Warrior Build. Using the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Warrior Build Advanced Vocation (Class), you want higher offensive capabilities rather than damage.
