However, most of them are end-game gear, limited to Act 3. We rank them based on their utility, defensive capabilities, and tactical advantages they can provide to the wearer. In this guide, We ranked and explained all legendary armour and shield features, how to use them effectively, and where to find them in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Mask of Shapeshifter allows you to temporarily change your appearance thanks to the Shapeshift spell, an alternative name for the Disguise Self, a level 1 illusion school spell, which can create many funny situations and can be a valuable roleplaying item.
This legendary helmet doesn’t have much use in combat. However, if you combine this with the Shapeshifter’s Boon Ring, you gain a +1d4 bonus to all checks. For example, it can be a fantastic combination of items if you must pass a high skill checks during the dialogue, disarm traps, or unlock locks.
4 Gloves of Soul Catching
- Armour Class: None
- Armour Type: Clothing, Gloves
- Where to Find: Act 3, House of Hope, Reward from Hope for Saving her. Detailed guide on how to get Gloves of Soul Catching…
- Recommended For: Monk Class
You can get Gloves of Soul Catching for saving Hope in House of Hope during Act 3. The gloves increase constitution, affecting your health and ability to pass constitution saving throws successfully. As a result, you’ll also have better chances to keep concentrating on a spell, even when hit by an enemy attack.
However, the item is primarily dedicated to monks and characters who use unarmed attacks. Once per turn, when attacking, you’ll get extra health or exchange it for the advantage on Attack Rolls and Saving Throws.
While playing Monk, you can combine the Gloves of Soul Catching with the Vest of Soul Rejuvenation, the Ring of Regeneration, and you’ll get a tremendous amount of healing per turn, making you hard to kill. This Pairing will be a must-have choice if you struggle with survival, do a solo playthrough, or play on honour mode difficulty.
This legendary armour offers excellent bonuses and healing, and it is one of the most robust items in the game, but sadly its utility is limited to unarmed attacks. Therefore, many builds and classes can’t use it to its full potential. Thus, we ranked Legendary Gloves of Soul Catching as number 3.
3 Helm of Balduran
- Armour Class: None
- Armour Type: Medium Armour, Helmet
- Where to Find: Act 3, On an Altar next to Ansur in the Dragon’s Sanctum. (X: 635 Y: -965). Detailed guide on how to get Helm of Balduran…
- Recommended For: All Characters with Medium Armour Proficiency()
Helm of Balduran is well hidden behind traps and puzzles under Wyrm’s Fortress, but as a result, you can get it early in Act 3. Similar to Gloves of Soul Catching, this legendary helmet heals you at the beginning of each turn. Healing is smaller but is passive and happens regardless of your actions. Similarly, if paired with the Ring of Regeneration, it provides a stable source of healing each turn. Perfect especially for front-line characters the most exposed to harmful attacks and damage.
+1 AC and saving throws bonus further increase wearer survivability, but the true power of Helm of Balduran lies in the Stun Immunity. While equipped, you cannot be stunned, which is an excellent advantage in a solo playthrough, high-difficulty playthroughs, and, in general, a critical buff. A stunned character cannot attack or heal and is disabled from fighting, vulnerable to attacks. Crowd control is the most powerful tool and should be your key to success during brutal fights. If your character cannot be stunned, they control the battlefield, continuously taking action. On top of that, enemies can’t land a critical hit on a Helm of Balduran wearer.
In summary, all those fantastic bonuses, healing, and survivability make it a valuable item worthy of the title of legendary armor in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, its only limitation is that it requires Medium Armour Proficiency to use it effectively. As a result, this automatically excludes many classes, including spellcaster.
Still, here is a list of classes, feat, and races that provide medium armour proficiency, and those characters should get Helm of Balduran as soon as possible:
- Barbarian
- Bard (College of Valour Subclass)
- Cleric
- Druid
- Fighter
- Ranger
- Paladin
- Githyanki
- Shield Dwarf
- Moderately Armoured Feat
2 Viconia’s Walking Fortress
- Armour Class: +3
- Armour Type: Shield
- Where to Find: Act 3, Can be looted from Viconia DeVir in House of Greef during the Daughter of Darkness quest. Detailed guide on how to get Viconia’s Walking Fortress…
- Recommended For: All Classes Proficient with Shields
Viconia’s Walking Fortress adds a +3 Armour Class bonus instead of the regular +2 AC other shields provide. It also gives you more survivability against spells, and one per short rest will allow you to cast Reflective Shell, a bonus action that will send projectiles back to the attacker. It shuts down any ranged attackers.
The Warding Bond can be valid for support characters who want to take off pressure from other team members, sharing the damage received with them and providing additional resistance to all damage and a +1 bonus to armour class.
However, this legendary shield’s most significant and fun advantage is Rebuke of the Mighty’s bonus. With Viconia’s Walking Fortress, you have a unique reaction to enemy attacks that will not only deal the force damage but also have a chance to send them prone. As mentioned, crowd control spells, attacks, and arrows are the game’s best and most powerful tactics. Enemy knocked prone has a disadvantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws, and they must spend half of their movement speed to stand up. Also, if their movement is 0, they will skip a turn, missing an attack on your team.
To use Viconia’s Walking Fortress, your character must have shield proficiency. You can equip a shield with any one-handed weapon, including quarterstaffs. As a result, this legendary shield will be used best when equipped by the cleric or other healers in combination with the Blood of Lathander, another powerful legendary gear item.
Also, if you have, for example, a Sorcerer or Wizard, they can carry this shield with Markoheshkir, which will boost their usually weak survivability. For that reason, human and half-elf races with Civil Militia racial feats are some of the best choices for spellcasters.
Below, we list all classes and races with shield proficiency:
- Bard (College of Valour Subclass)
- Cleric
- Druid
- Fighter
- Ranger
- Paladin
- Barbarian
- Moderately Armoured Feat
- Civil Militia racial bonus of Humans and Half-Elfs
1 Helldusk Armour
- Armour Class: 21 AC
- Armour Type: Heavy Armour, Chest
- Where to Find: Act 3, Can be looted from Raphael in House of Hope. Detailed guide on how to get Helldusk Armour…
- Recommended For: All Classes except Barbarians
To get Helldusk Armour, you must head to the Devil’s Fee and then to House of Hope; it isn’t easy to find but should be your focus when you arrive at Baldur’s Gate Lower City. This is probably the most significant disadvantage because you must face Raphael and loot Helldusk Armour from his body. Yet, all the trouble is worth it because this legendary chest piece is the true best legendary armour in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Despite being Heavy armour with extremely high 21 AC, it doesn’t require any proficiency to equip and effectively use it. Also, it gives the wearer access to the fly spell and opens many positioning strategies. You can fly up to get the higher ground for range attacks or quickly close the distance with melee classes, gaining a significant tactical advantage.
Additionally, you will get resistance to all fire damage, and on a successful saving throw, your enemy will burn for three turns. Yet, when picking one, the most significant advantage of Helldusk Armour is its ability to lower all received damage by 3. Available in Act 1, the Adamantine Splint Armour and Adamantine Scale Mail have similar but smaller bonuses.
It’s a shame you can get only one copy of Helldusk Armour. Regardless of your playstyle, this unique and potent-looking legendary gear will increase the survivability of any class and build effectively. However, the only exception is the cloth-wearing Barbarians.
