When choosing clothing and armor for your Wizard, it is important to consider your character’s playstyle and the types of enemies you will be facing. You will have no armour proficiency and thus use clothing for defensive items. These clothing items come with powerful set bonuses that aid in defensive or offensive playstyle. This guide explains the best clothing for the Wizard class and how to use it.
Best Clothing for Wizard Class in Baldur’s Gate 3
The best clothing items for the Wizard class in Baldur’s Gate 3 are Robe of the Weave, Robe of Surpreme Defences, and Helldusk Armour. Robe of the Weave is best overall for its offensive bonuses along with passive healing when completing a saving throw. Robe of Supreme Defences is a defensive-minded Wizard’s best option for high AC and Saving throw bonus while concentrating. Lastly, a late-game option is Helldusk Armour because it provides 21 AC and automatic armour proficiency when worn. Regardless of your Act and subclass, let us review the best clothes/clothing for the Wizard class in BG3.

10 The Protecy Sparkswall
The Protecty Sparkswall features in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Clothing Type: Chest
- AC: 10 + Dexterity Modifier
- Proficiency Requirement: None
- Rarity: Rare
- Weight: 1.8 kg / 3.9 lb
- Value: 260 gp
- Where to Find: Bridge within the Grymforge, behind traps.
- Special Bonuses: High Spellcasting, Sparkswall Armour
The Protecty Sparkswall, found in the Grymforge, boosts your Wizard’s spell save DC (+1) and pairs well with the Spellsparkler quarterstaff (from Waukeen’s Rest). When you combine the two, you gain extra AC and saving throws, but it requires lighting charges to be active. However, High Spellcasting gives you a passive boost Spell Save DC regardless if you have Lighting Charges making it a great option in Act 1.
Unfortunately, Wizards do not have a lot of powerful clothing items in Act 1. An alternative to Protecty Sparkswall is Poisoner’s Robe found by killing the Phase Spider Matriarch. We suggest using a one-hand and shield setup with Wizard builds utilizing a Human or High Half-Elf racial selection. These races give shield proficiency and can increase your survivability at the start of the game. For those players that don’t want to use a shield, or don’t have proficiency, there’s another item that gives you +2 AC and that is next on our list of the best clothing for Wizard Class in Baldur’s Gate 3!
9 Bracers of Defence
Bracers of Defence features in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Clothing Type: Gloves
- AC: None
- Proficiency Requirement: None
- Rarity: Rare
- Weight: 0.5 kg / 1 lb
- Value: 160 gp
- Where to Find: Inside the Apothecary’s Cellar beneath the Blighted Village.
- Special Bonus: Become the Bulwark
The best way to increase your Wizards survivability at the start of Act 1 in BG3 is equipping the Bracers of Defence for a +2 to AC. Found in a secret area underneath the Blighted Village, you can acquire the Bracers of Defence early in the game. With Wizards using Mages Armour and 16 Dexterity builds you can boost your AC to 18 within a few hours of starting a new campaign. This will be more AC than heavy armour builds!
The downside is, you won’t be able to equip a shield or have offensive bonus gloves. However, Act 1 doesn’t feature a lot of offensive gloves and clothing that you find in later Acts. Additionally, make sure you acquire and unlock Shovel, a Quasit summon who’s located in the same area within the Apothecary’s Cellar.
8 Disintegrating Night Walkers
Disintegrating Night Walkers features in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Clothing Type: Boots
- AC: None
- Proficiency Requirement: None
- Rarity: Very Rare
- Weight: 0.55 kg / 1.1 lb
- Value: 360 gp
- Where to Find:
- Special Bonuses: Night Walker, Misty Step
In Act 1, nothing beats the mobility benefits of wearing Disintegrating Night Walkers’ boots. These boots offer protection against common terrain status effects, notably preventing being knocked prone. Additionally, you gain the ability to use the Misty Step spell once per short rest. You can obtain Disintegrating Night Walkers in Grymforge in the Underdark through various means. The simplest method is to defeat or steal them from Ne’re.
An additional piece of gear worth obtaining near the Night Walker boost is the Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands ring. This ring provides the invisibility spell once per long rest and with mobility and stealth, your Wizard will have high survivability.
7 Infernal Robe
Infernal Robe features in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Clothing Type: Chest
- AC: 10 + Dexterity Modifier
- Proficiency Requirement: None
- Rarity: Very Rare
- Weight: 1.8 kg / 4.0 lb
- Value: 1600 gp
- Where to Find: Wyll kills Karlach to get a reward from Mizora (additional ways).
- Special Bonus: Fire Shield Warm Sepp, Fire Resistance, +1 AC
When you recruit both Wyll and Karlach companions, they have a feud that can be negotiated or turn violent. The Infernal Robes is one of the best clothing items in BG3 but requires you to kill Karlach. Consequently, you will not be able to recruit her and she will never join your party.
The reason Infernal Robes is so powerful is gaining Fire resistance and a level 4 Evocation spell early in the game. Elemental resistance lowers damage by half which will help your survivability. The spell, Fire Shield – Warm is a powerful counter to melee attackers. While active, you will take half damage from cold and do 2d8 fire damage to anyone who attacks you with melee damage. This spell is a hard counter to melee aggressors and doesn’t require concentration. Depending on your party composition, consider acquiring the Infernal Robes for your Wizard build.
6 Icebite Robe
Icebite Robe features in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Clothing Type: Chest
- AC: 10 + Dexterity Modifier
- Proficiency Requirement: None
- Rarity: Rare
- Weight: 1.8 kg / 3.6 lb
- Value: 800 gp
- Where to Find: Saccophagus in Act 2, Shadow-Cursed Lands X: -158 Y: 73.
- Special Bonus: Cold Resistance, Armour of Agathys spell
Early in Act 2, consider searching the Shadow-Cursed Lands Saccorphagus near the Grand Mauselum for the Icebite Robe. Icebite Robe is one of the best clothing items in Act 2 for the Wizard because of the free spell Armour of Agathys and Cold Resistance. Armour of Agathys is a Level 1 Abjuration spell, that grants the user 5 temporary hit points and returns 5 cold damage to melee attackers if hit. The spell lasts until a long rest and does not require concentration making it a strong defensive self-buff spell.
Moreover, Icebite Robe upcasts this spell to Level 3 once per long rest. This upcasting, or higher level spell increases the amount of Temporary Hit Points gained and cold damage. Now you will immediately gain 15 temporary HP and return 15 cold damage to melee attackers! In addition, you can purchase the Darkfire Shortbow from Dammon, a vendor in Act 2. This also gives cold resistance, but fire resistance as well. Now your build will have protection against two commonly used elements very early in Act 2 of BG3.
5 Cloak of the Weave
Cloak of the Weave features in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Clothing Type: Cloak
- AC: None
- Proficiency Requirement: None
- Rarity: Very Rare
- Weight: 0.5 kg / 1 lb
- Value: 300 gp / 940 gp
- Where to Find: Sold by Helsik at the Devil’s Fee in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate.
- Special Bonuses: Arcane Enchantment, Absorb Elements
The best cloak to obtain for any Wizard is the Cloak of the Weave sold by Helsik in Devil’s Fee. This cloak provides increased spell save DC and spells attack rolls passively. Moreover, it allows you to once per short rest, reduce elemental damage by half and deal back 1d6 of that element type on your next attack. This cloak has offensive and defensive built in and is simple to obtain.
Helsik and Devil’s Fee is located in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate. She will need to open up her stock, which requires inspection and skill checks from various statues and items inside Devil’s Fee. Moreover, Devil’s Fee is in the same area as House of Hope and another powerful item, Mask of Soul Perception. Make sure you get both clothing items when you stop and increase your Wizard builds power early in Act 3.
4 Quickspell Gloves
Quickspell Gloves features in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Clothing Type: Gloves
- AC: None
- Proficiency Requirement: None
- Rarity: Very Rare
- Weight: 0.5 kg / 1 lb
- Value: 300 gp / 1000 gp
- Where to Find: Sold by Vendor Roland in Sorcerous Sundries in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate.
- Special Bonuses: Quickspell Flinger
One of the main combat deficiencies of the Wizard spellcaster is the lack of bonus action utility. To solve that, purchase the Quickspell Gloves from Roland in Sorcerous Sundries, located in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate. These powerful gloves allow you to use a Cantrip as a bonus action rather than an action. Thus, you can fire off a firebolt and fireball in one turn without a potion of speed!
A combination we suggest is taking the Spell Sniper feat with any offensive Wizard build. This will increase the likelihood of a critical strike and allow you to gain access to Eldritch Blast. If you obtain Eldritch Blast via Spell Sniper, it will use your character’s Spellcasting Ability modifier (intelligence) rather than default charisma. Thus, it becomes much more powerful with a higher percentage chance of landing. This increases your Wizard build proficiency and is one of the best clothing items to collect in Baldur’s Gate 3.
3 Helldusk Armour
Helldusk Armour features in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Armour Type: Heavy
- AC: 21
- Proficiency Requirement: None (unique)
- Rarity: Legendary
- Weight: 20 kg / 40 lb
- Value: 8,000 gp
- Where to Find: Looted from Raphael in the House of Hope Act 3.
- Special Bonus: Armour Proficiency, Infernal Retribution, Prime Aegis of Fire, Fly
The best defensive set for the Wizard is Helldusk Armour obtained in the House of Hope late in Act 3. Uniquely, Helldusk Armour grants Heavy Armour Proficiency while wearing, thus you can equip it and still cast spells. Once equipped, you gain a staggering 21 Armour Class (AC) and 3 less damage from all sources. Simply put, there’s nothing that beats Helldusk Armour’s defensive properties for a Wizard class in Baldur’s Gate 3.
However, the downside is that Helldusk offers zero offensive bonuses. Moreover, your Wizard will likely want to supply a heavy armour front-end melee user with this armour. Thus, it doesn’t rank as number one or two on our list due to how late it comes in the game, and lack of any offensive firepower.

2 Robe of Supreme Defences
Robe of Supreme Defences features in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Clothing Type: Chest
- AC:
- Proficiency Requirement: None
- Rarity: Very Rare
- Weight: 1.8 kg / 3.6 lb
- Value: 1600 gp
- Where to Find: In Act 3, Rivinington Vendor Ferg Drogher.
- Special Bonus: Exquisite Focus
Upon arriving in Rivington in Act 3, you can purchase the Robe of Supreme Defences from the merchant Ferg Drogher. Robe of Supreme Defences is one of the strongest defensive clothing items for the Wizard due to its increased saving throw and AC bonus while concentrating. While concentrating, you add your spellcasting Ability Modifier to your saving throws and gain a +1 bonus to Armour Class. If you took two +2 intelligence feats, you could be at 20 Intelligence, with a +5 to saving throws! The caveat to using this is concentration spells, thus you will need to frequently use Haste, Stoneskin, Grant Flight or another spell to gain its benefit.
An important note about the vendor who sells this, Ferg Drogher, you cannot approach him with Shadowheart in your party. He will instantly walk away never to return, and thus miss out on important loot. One additional item to collect from him is the Hellrider Longbow. You can equip this in your range weapon slot, even without proficiency, and gain a +3 bonus to Initiative Rolls and Advantage on Perception Ability Checks. This allows for high combat turn priority passively and doesn’t even require you to use the item!
1 Robe of the Weave
Robe of the Weave features in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Clothing Type: Chest
- AC: 12 + Dexterity Modifier
- Proficiency Requirement: None
- Rarity: Very Rare
- Weight: 1.8 kg / 3.6 lb
- Value: 2900 gp
- Where to Find: Within Sorcerous Sundries, the Ramazith’s Tower is located in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate.
- Special Bonus: Aracne Enhancement, Weave Eater, +2 AC
Consider the Robe of the Weave the best overall clothing items for the Wizard class in Baldur’s Gate 3. What makes the Robe of the Weave powerful is its offensive and defensive bonuses built into one item. Robe of the Weave is relatively easy to get, simply by travelling to Ramazith’s Tower where you can collect the Markoheshkir Legendary staff as well. In addition, these bonuses are passively given to you and do not require any special activation or spells.
The Weave set is a commonly used Act 3 end-game series of gear meant for spellcasters. You can combine the Robe of the Weave with the Cloak, and Hood to amplify your spell saves and attack rolls which ultimately makes you both more survivable and damage dealing. That leaves your Boots which we suggest Helldusk and the gloves which we suggest Quickspell Gloves. This would give you an all-cloth gear setup that would provide powerful offensive and defensive bonuses allowing any Wizard subclass in Baldur’s Gate 3 to dominate!
