Starfield is a robust single-player, action RPG where players will discover the main story through a central quest line, while also encountering a vast array of side missions to complete.
What Story will the Main Quests follow in Starfield?
Starfield will take place in the year 2330. Humanity has left Earth and people now reside in cities and communities scattered across the Settled Systems. It has been 20 years since the Colony Wars have ended and while the United Colonies remain a major power, they have an uneasy truce with the Freestar Collective.
The main story will be instigated by your discovery of a piece of an alien artifact, which causes you to have visions. However, they are fragmented and the full message cannot be understood. You’re left without any answers, but a drive to know more. Through the character of Barrett, you’ll learn about the Constellation organization and their search to complete this set of alien artifacts.
The main story quests will follow this narrative thread. Consequently leading you farther and farther out into unknown space as you seek more of the artifacts and the answers they contain.
What will the Side Quests be in Starfield?
There will be political, military, and financial factions and tensions for the player to navigate. It is likely that many of these interactions will produce or take place through side missions. Aside from the dominant political and military factions of the United Colonies and Freestar Collective, there is also the Crimson Fleet pirates that you’ll need to fight or negotiate with, depending on the circumstances.
Wealthy corporations also play a large role in the Settled Systems with companies like Ryujin Industries exerting an outsized influence in citizens lives. Likewise, the Xenofresh Corporation is responsible for the construction of Neon, a former fishing port now turned pleasure city.
Additionally, other side quests will sometimes help you acquire or gain the loyalty/trust of companions and crew. Certain major companions such as Sarah Morgan and Sam Coe can be romanced in Starfield. You’ll have to work on your character’s relationship with them in order to make this happen, and part of that process is sure to involve completing character specific side quests.
Generally, in RPG games of this nature, you can choose to engage with side quests or not, depending on you play-style and preference. However, it’s not recommended that you skip these quests. Doing so will not only reveal more pieces of the story but also has the potential to generate additional experience points, drop extra loot, unlock other NPC companions and crew, generate romance and more!
