Release Dates and Platforms
Starfield’s release date is scheduled for 11/11/2022 which would happen to fall on a Friday which sets up a great weekend of RPG binging. On launch date, Starfield will be released exclusively to Microsoft Windows PC and Xbox series X and S. Starfield will be available on game pass from day one so mark your calendars! There is no coincidence Bethesda choose November 11th as a release date, exactly 11 years ago on November 11th Bethesda released the cult classic that we know as Skyrim.
Starfield’s high level View Plot
The game is in the future, year 2330 on the outskirts of the Milky Way Galaxy to a placed called “The Settled Systems.” This system which has been occupied by humans is about 50 light years in diameter and shares the same Galaxy as Earth for reference. Around 20 years before the story begins, a bloody civil war occurred between two rival factions called the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective, but at the time the game takes place, the Settled Systems are once again in an uneasy peacetime. While Bethesda is keeping the exact details of the plot under wraps, we are promised exploring of the galaxy “on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery.” The trailers contain a lot of philosophical musings on the place of humankind among the stars and the meaning of existence.
Will Starfield give players an option to fully customize their hero?
According to the official Starfield website, in this game you can “create any character you want”. Also in A recent interview with several key members of the development team revealed plans to let you choose your character’s background, traits, and stats. Its safe to assume with Bethesda’s history of LORE and extensive character creation options with past video games that, we will see a slue of options here to satisfy our Sci-Fi deepest wants and needs.
Is Starfield an Open World video game?
While the exact wording of “open-world” hasn’t technically been attached to Starfield as of yet on their website. However you can find phrases like “explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey” seems to be hinting at that popular phrase “open-world”. Starfield will be the ultimate galaxy sandbox experience that we have been waiting for.
Can we play in third person?
What good would awesome character customization be if we could not marvel at it at all times! Starfield will be playable in both first person and third person views, however there are no details on how you would switch between the two but given this is a Bethesda game zooming in and out to toggle freely is a safe assumption.
Will Starfield include a morality and faction system?
It is unknown if Starfield will have a morality system similar to the Karma meter in Bethesda’s Fallout games. However, the developers have confirmed that the game will feature multiple joinable factions, and that at least one faction will align with “evil” actions and behaviors on the part of the player.
So far we know the two main faction will be United Colonies and Freestar Collective, who were at war in the game’s backstory. The United Colonies represent an idealized vision of human diaspora branching out into the galaxy united as a republic. While the Freestar Collective are space cowboys, a pioneer group pushing the frontiers of human expansion and who clearly aren’t so keen on centralized control. Notably, despite obvious parallels with franchises like Star Wars and Firefly, neither of these groups seem to be played up as having been entirely right or wrong in the war, at least from your character’s point of view at the start of the game. There’s also a third notable faction, Ryujin Industries, which represents a corporate interest apparently separate from the two ideological ones.
In terms of secondary or minor factions and groups, so far we’ve heard of Ecliptic Mercenaries, Pirates of the Crimson Fleet, Spacers (characterised by their violence) and House Va’ruun (described as “fanatical religious zealots”). It’s unclear yet exactly which of these you’ll be able to join. Only one confirmed as playable so far is the Crimson Fleet. However, it is expected that you will encounter them all at some point in the story.
Your character will begin the game as a member of an exploratory force called Constellation, but by the sounds of it, shifting your allegiance will be a definite possibility at some point in the story.
It also seems that companion characters and dialogue trees are making an appearance, as per Bethesda tradition. There’s a persuasion mini-game to bring NPCs around to your way of thinking, somewhat akin to Fallout’s speech stat checks. But it is apparently an entirely new system developed specifically for Starfield that’s meant to emulate real conversation much more naturally.
Will there be Romance?
The devs have told us there will be romance! However, we don’t know to what degree. Here is the exact quote “plenty of romance, mystery, and adventure”. While its easy to just assume yes, however this answer can be extremely vague and maybe purposely so as the level of romance could be up to the player choices and actions during gameplay.
Will Starfield have any difficulty settings?
As stated by developers Starfield will apparently be more of a “hardcore” RPG than recent Fallout and Elder Scrolls titles. We are still not sure how that translates into gameplay, will the title be Elden Ring hardcore or Mass Effect hardcore, very different. Bethesda have historically included difficulty settings in their single-player RPGs, so we’re inclined to think that there will be some ability to scale up or down damage in the game’s combat sections to suit your preference. We’ll have to wait to find out for sure.
Will Starfield have Multiplayer options?
Since we have been teased with the idea of Starfield its been clear that Starfield will have no multiplayer elements at all. The focus for Starfield has been providing a story-rich, single-player adventure with plenty of replay value.
Starfield System Requirements?
Starfield was created in Creation Engine 2. Which is an updated version of Creation Engine that was used for creating the Skyrim and the Fallout series. At this time there has been no details released on how much more power is needed to run Creation Engine 2 as a client. Bethesda titles usually do a decent job at taking advantage of the latest hardware to boost the visual experience, while being kind to older computers allowing everyone to enjoy their titles.
